Boykottaufrufe gegen das Minarettverbot: Islamische Länder haben Spargelder und Milliarden-Exportvolumen im Visier
NZZ ONLINE: Nach der Annahme des Minarettverbots hat der türkische Europaminister wohlhabende Muslime in aller Welt aufgerufen, ihre Vermögen aus der Schweiz abzuziehen und in der Türkei anzulegen. Im Internet werben islamische Kreise zudem für den Boykott von Schweizer Waren.

Ob die Minarett-Initiative für die Schweiz wirtschaftlich ähnliche Folgen hat wie der Karikaturenstreit in Dänemark, lässt sich noch nicht absehen. Damals führte allein der Boykott dänischer Waren zu Einnahmenausfällen von umgerechnet rund 1,6 Milliarden Franken.

Bekannte Schweizer Marken betroffen

Tatsache ist aber, dass im Internet bereits Boykottaufrufe gegen Schweizer Waren aufgeschaltet sind. Zu einer Kampagne gegen die Schweiz rief am Mittwoch auch die Führung der syrischen Republik auf. Die Chefredaktorin der regierungsnahen syrischen Tageszeitung «Teshreen» verlangte einen arabischen Boykott von Schweizer Waren.

Im Visier haben die erzürnten Muslime bisher vor allem Produkte bekannter Marken wie Swatch, Omega, Rolex, Lindt & Sprüngli oder Nestlé.Unter Boykotten leiden könnte auch die Swiss auf den Strecken in den Nahen und Mittleren Osten.

Die Swiss gibt sich allerdings gelassen. Bisher gebe es dafür keine Anzeichen. Ähnlich tönt es bei einzelnen Unternehmen und der Schweizer Wirtschaft. Minarets: L'ONU s'inquiète
leJDD.fr: Après l'adoption dimanche du projet d'interdiction de construction de minarets en Suisse, l'ONU, par la voix d'Asma Jahangir, parle de résultats "discriminatoires" et s'inquiète du non-respect des droits de l'Homme.

L'affaire des minarets "indésirables" en Suisse ne cesse de faire des vagues sur la scène internationale. Et la question de la liberté religieuse est au centre de la polémique. Lundi, c'est une experte indépendante auprès des Nations Unies, Asma Jahangir, qui regrettait le résultat de ce référendum, organisé par le parti de droite populiste Union démocratique du centre (UDC). "J'ai de sérieuses inquiétudes quant aux conséquences négatives que le résultat du vote aura sur la liberté de religion ou de conviction des membres de la communauté musulmane", avait alors indiqué Asma Jahangir.

Si elle considère que l'interdiction de construire des minarets sur le territoire helvète est une "discrimination claire" à l'égard des musulmans, la rapporteuse spéciale sur la liberté de religion ou de conviction, ne fait que confirmer le point de vue des Nations Unies. Proteste gegen den Anti-Minarett-Entscheid: Tausende demonstrieren in mehreren Städten der Westschweiz
NZZ ONLINE: Mehrere Tausend Personen sind am Dienstagabend in den Westschweizer Städten Lausanne, Genf, Freiburg und Biel gegen den Volksentscheid über ein Minarett-Verbot auf die Strasse gegangen.

In Lausanne versammelten sich zwischen 4500 und 5000 Personen. Sie formierten sich zu einem Demonstrationszug, der sich von der Kathedrale zur Lausanner Moschee bewegte.Die Teilnehmenden skandierten Sprüche wie «Keine Diskriminierung» oder «Wir sind alles Muslime».

Der Demonstrationszug war bunt gemischt. Auch hätten viele Jugendliche teilgenommen, bemerkte eine SDA-Journalistin vor Ort. Die Demo war vom Mouvement de lutte contre le racisme (MLCR) organisiert worden. Des manifestations dans plusieurs villes romandes
TRIBUNE DE GENÈVE: MINARETS | L'interdiction des minarets a fait descendre la population romande dans la rue ce soir. Outre un défilé à Lausanne et une manifestation à Genève qui ont réuni 6500 à 7000 personnes, des veillées aux bougies ont eu lieu dans une série de villes.

A Genève, plus de 2000 personnes se sont réunies en début de soirée sur le parvis de la cathédrale St-Pierre, entourant deux minarets en bois et papier.

Les organisateurs ont renoncé à défiler jusqu'à la mosquée du Petit-Saconnex, comme initialement prévu, afin de donner la possibilité au plus grand nombre de s'exprimer.

«Genève a toujours été une terre d'accueil», a déclaré Hafid Ouardiri, ex-porte-parole de la mosquée de Genève. Si les orateurs ont salué le vote genevois, ils n'ont pas manqué de pointer du doigt les responsables: l'UDC qui ne cesse d'attiser les peurs, mais aussi la classe politique qui ne combat pas clairement le racisme qui s'est exprimé dans l'anonymat de l'isoloir, selon Karl Grünberg, d'ACOR SOS Racisme.

De leur côté, les politiques ont appelé à la suppression du nouvel article constitutionnel, «la seule mesure acceptable» pour le maire de Genève Rémy Pagani, qui a demandé une minute de silence et de réflexion. «Les Genevois doivent désormais montrer à Berne qu'il est possible de bien vivre ensemble», a invité le président du Conseil d'Etat David Hiler.

Now Italy May Follow Switzerland with Referendum on Islamic Minarets
MAIL ONLINE: Italy could be the next European country to consider a referendum on the building of Islamic minarets following the Swiss vote to ban the structures.

Cabinet minister Roberto Calderoli, of the xenophobic Northern League, said Italy should confirm its Roman Catholic roots and hold a vote as soon as possible.

Like the Swiss, Italian voters can have a direct say on an issue if a minimum number of signatures are gathered calling for a referendum.

The League is expected to now start the process for a referendum, despite the Vatican expressing unease over the Swiss vote.

Official Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano compared it to a decision by the European Court of Human Rights last month to ban crucifixes from Italian classrooms - a decision that provoked widespread outrage in Italy.

Calderoli said the Swiss decision was a triumphant 'yes to bell towers and no to minarets' that served as an important example for other European countries losing touch with their Christian identities.

He added: 'Respect for other religions is important, but we've got to put the brakes on Muslim propaganda or else we'll end up with an Islamic political party like they have in Spain.'

Others within the anti-immigration Northern League have called for a cross to be inserted on the Italian national flag to symbolise the deep Christian roots of the country.

Italy has one of the tallest minarets in Europe standing just a metre shorter than St Peter's Basilica, at the Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre in Rome.

Der türkische Ministerpräsident Recep Tayyip Erdogan ortete nun in Europa eine „zunehmende rassistische und faschistische“ Haltung. Vor der Parlamentsfraktion seiner Regierungspartei AKP zeigte sich Erdo?an [sic] besorgt über das Ergebnis der Abstimmung. Islamophobie sei wie Antisemitismus ein „Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit“. Die Schweiz müsse daher das Verbot zurücknehmen. Ebenfalls betroffen zeigte sich der türkische Staatspräsident Abdullah Gül, der das Ergebnis der Abstimmung als „Schande“ bezeichnete. Laut UN-Menschenrechtskommissarin Navi Pillay sei die Abstimmung „klar diskriminierend“ gewesen. Vor allem kritisierte Pillay, dass das Ergebnis nur die islamische Religion beträfe. UNO: Minarett-Verbot ist "klar diskriminierend"
DIE PRESSE: Die UNO verurteilt das Schweizer Minarettverbot als "alarmierende ausländerfeindliche Kampagne" und warnt: Die Schweiz läuft Gefahr, mit internationalen Verpflichtungen in Konflikt zu geraten.

Die UNO kritisiert den Entscheid des Schweizer Stimmvolks, Minarette im Land zu verbieten, scharf. Das Verbot sei "klar diskriminierend", teilte die UNO-Hochkommissarin für Menschenrechte, Navi Pillay, am Dienstag mit.



Pillay sagte in Genf, die Behauptungen, wonach sich die Initiative nicht gegen den Islam oder Muslime gerichtet habe oder dass das Verbot die Integration fördere, seien unhaltbar, wenn nur eine Religion betroffen sei. Die UN-Menschenrechtskommissarin zeigte sich traurig darüber, dass die Schweizer Bevölkerung die fundamentalen Menschenrechte missachte. 



"Auf Fremdenhass oder Intoleranz basierende Politik ist extrem beunruhigend, wo immer sie passiert", wurde Pillay zitiert. Manchmal ziele sie auf Anhänger einer bestimmten Religion und manchmal auf Menschen einer anderen Rasse oder eines anderen ethnischen Ursprungs. Blair has a commercial consultancy, called Tony Blair Associates, plus jobs advising a US bank and a Swiss insurer. He has a multimillion pound book deal. Bei vielen Muslimen, Politikern und Kirchengemeinschaften hat das per Volksabstimmung beschlossene Bauverbot neuer Minarette in der Schweiz für Empörung und Bedauern gesorgt. Rechtsgerichtete Parteien dagegen haben das deutliche Nein der Schweizer zum Minarettbau begrüßt. Ermutigt durch die Abstimmung wollen nun einige Initiativen ebenfalls die Türme verbieten lassen.

"Ein Hurra auf die Schweiz!": Mit diesen Worten reagierte die Chefin der rechtspopulistischen Dänischen Volkspartei (DF) auf den Volksentscheid. Pia Kjaersgaard kündigte umgehend eine Initiative im dänischen Parlament auf die Durchführung eines Referendums an. Allerdings hat ihre Partei nur 25 Sitze in dem 179 Mitglieder starken dänischen Parlament. Für ein Referendum sind mindestens 60 Stimmen notwendig.

Auch der Vorsitzender der niederländischen Partei für die Freiheit (PVV), Geert Wilders, lobte das Votum der Schweizer als Durchbruch: "Zum ersten Mal haben sich Menschen in Europa der Islamisierung widersetzt." LE FIGARO: Une petite partie d'entre eux estiment que les lieux de culte musulmans doivent se faire discrets «pour éviter de réveiller les peurs».

«Le minaret n'est pas une obligation coranique. C'est une architecture traditionnelle pour appeler à la prière dans les pays musulmans. Il n'est absolument pas nécessaire en France. Il est même déplacé», affirme l'imam de Bordeaux, Tareq Oubrou. Lui a sciemment écarté cette tour du projet de grande mosquée de sa ville. «Dans le climat actuel, le minaret est perçu comme un défi. Pour éviter de réveiller les peurs et les intégrismes, je milite pour une présence discrète de l'islam.»

Au sein de l'Union des organisations islamiques de France (UOIF), Tareq Oubrou fait cependant figure d'exception. À Poitiers, le représentant de ce courant proche des Frères musulmans a insisté pour qu'un minaret surplombe la future grande mosquée. Au risque de réveiller les passions dans une ville symbolique. «C'est un ornement. Baroness Warsi Is Confronted by the Real Islam in Luton
THE TELEGRAPH: Conservative Muslim Peer Baroness Warsi of Dewsbury has criticised a group of Islamic extremists who pelted her with eggs and shouted abuse at her during a visit in Luton.

The shadow minister for community cohesion and social action had been meeting local businesses with Tory candidates when she was attacked just before 5pm on Monday.

Up to 10 local British male protesters, believed to be members of the controversial Al Muhajiroun group, started shouting abuse at the Peer, accusing her of not being a proper Muslim and supporting the deaths of Muslims in Afghanistan.

Members of the group then threw several eggs at her, with one hitting her on the side of the head and another soiling her jacket.

Baroness Warsi, the country's most powerful female Mulsims [sic], was not injured during the attack in the city's Bury Park area.

Amid concerns for her safety, witnesses said Baroness Warsi refused to run from the group, but instead started remonstrating with them, later branding them "extremists" who did not represent the views of British Muslims.

She later retreated into a sari shop.

Despite police being called, no one was arrested for the attack which was universally condemned by locals.

Brushing off the incident last night, the Tory Peer later addressed a local meeting, where she branded the group "idiots and vile" who did not represent Muslim views and were "clearly repulsed with me".

Baroness Warsi Pelted with Eggs by Muslims
TIMES ONLINE: The most senior Muslim politician in Britain was pelted with eggs yesterday and accused of supporting the death of Muslims in Afghanistan. Baroness Warsi, Shadow Minister for community cohesion and social action, was attacked by a group of Muslim men during a visit to Luton, the scene of race riots this year.

She was mobbed as she walked down Dunstable Road and a group started screaming abuse at her. “They were saying something about her not being a proper Muslim,” a spokesman said. “But rather than run off, she stood her ground and said ‘Let’s have a proper debate, let’s have an argument.’ They just carried on screaming and shouting.”

One egg hit her and soiled her jacket but her spokesman said she was not shaken. She was taken to a nearby shop and the visit continued with police protection.

Angela Merkel Alarmed by Worsening Credit Crisis
THE TELEGRAPH: The German government is rushing through a fresh package of measures to shore up ailing banks and prevent a second wave of the debt crisis suffocating large parts of manufacturing industry.

"We are in a very critical situation," said Chancellor Angela Merkel in her weekly radio address. "We are going to discuss with leaders of the financial institutions what can be done to head off a credit crunch."

The move comes days after the Bundesbank revealed that German banks face a further €90bn (£82bn) of likely write-downs over the next year.

Leaders of the new coalition are to meet industrialists and bankers tomorrow to thrash out an emergency plan. The proposals include a €10bn scheme to purchase toxic securities from banks. The idea is anathema in Germany and faces stiff opposition from Mrs Merkel's Bavarian and liberal partners.

NZZ ONLINE: Nach dem Ja zur Minarettinitiative herrscht im Parlament Uneinigkeit darüber, ob spezifischere Spezialgesetze gegen Muslime zu erlassen seien.

Am Tag nach der Annahme der Minarettinitiative herrschte unter den Parlamentariern insofern Einigkeit, als es dem Souverän kaum bloss um den Bau von Türmen gegangen sein könne. Doch auf die Fragen, wie die Annahme zu interpretieren sei und welche Konsequenzen die Politik daraus zu ziehen habe, fielen die ersten Antworten aus Bundesbern uneinheitlich aus.

Während aus links-grünen Kreisen eine strengere Praxis für die Ungültigkeitserklärung von Initiativen gefordert wird, ist für die SVP prioritär, dass das Minarettverbot konsequent umgesetzt wird. Auch die SVP weiss, dass die Bestimmung die in der Europäischen Menschenrechtskonvention (EMRK) verbriefte Religionsfreiheit verletzt und Rekurse an den Europäischen Gerichtshof für Menschenrechte absehbar sind. Dieser könnte die Verletzung der EMRK nur feststellen, doch dürfte die Schweiz unter politischen Druck kommen. Diesem gelte es zu widerstehen, auch ein Rauswurf aus dem Europarat sei in Kauf zu nehmen, erklärt SVP-Nationalrat Ulrich Schlüer. Demgegenüber verlangt der Zuger CVP-Nationalrat Gerhard Pfister von der SVP, dass sie im Fall eines Verdikts aus Strassburg den Rechtsstaat ebenso respektiere, wie sie dies von den Muslimen fordere. >>> nn, Bern | Montag, 30. Iran: Five British Sailors Seized after Straying into Iranian Waters

The Britons were part of the nine-strong crew of the Kingdom of Bahrain, a racing yacht, which was apprehended by the Iranian navy on Wednesday.

It is thought the boat, which carried a satellite tracker, may have drifted into Iranian waters after its propeller was damaged.

The newly refitted vessel was making its way from Bahrain to Dubai for a 350-mile race to Muscat, which began on Thursday.

When the yacht failed to arrive, expatriate yachting enthusiasts assumed that it had turned back because of technical problems but the Foreign Office disclosed last night that the crew had been taken captive by an Iranian patrol vessel on Wednesday.

It is understood that they were taken to Iran where they were said to be safe and well. Their families have been kept informed.

David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, said that British diplomats had been in close touch with Iranian officials and hoped to resolve the matter “swiftly”.

The incident has echoes of the capture in 2007 of 15 Royal Navy sailors and Marines who were seized during a routine inspection of a merchant ship. The incident lead to a prolonged diplomatic stand-off.

Iran claimed that the British sailors were in its territorial waters but the MoD said they were in Iraqi waters.

The names of the captured sailors have not been confirmed, but sources said those on board were Sam Usher, Olly Smith, Luke Porter, Oliver Young and David Bloomer, a Bahrain Radio presenter who was planning to give regular updates through the race. >>> Duncan Gardham and Richard Spencer | Monday, November 30, 2009

Minarets : tollé en France après le référendum suisse
LE FIGARO: RÉACTIONS - «Expression d'intolérance», «décision inquiétante» ... À l'exception du Front National, les responsables politiques et religieux français déplorent le résultat du vote suisse interdisant les minarets.

Au lendemain de l'annonce du résultat du référendum par lequel les Suisses ont décidé d'interdire la construction de nouveaux minarets chez eux, plusieurs responsables politiques s'élèvent pour déplorer l'intolérance sur laquelle ce scrutin lèverait le voile.

La Rapporteur spéciale de l'ONU pour la liberté de religion s'est montrée aujourd'hui «profondément inquiète» et elle a insisté sur le fait que le Comité des droits de l'homme a récemment prévenu la Suisse qu'une telle décision est contraire aux obligations de la Suisse en vertu du droit international dans le domaine des droits de l'homme.

En France, le ministre des Affaires étrangères, Bernard Kouchner, s'est déclaré lundi «un peu scandalisé». «J'espère que les Suisses reviendront sur cette décision assez vite», a-t-il ajouté parlant d'une «expression d'intolérance». La construction de minarets «n'est pas grand chose. Est-ce que c'est une offense dans un pays de montagnes qu'il y ait une construction un peu plus élevée ?», a aussi demandé le ministre.

Son collègue du gouvernement, Hervé Morin, ministre de la Défense, a estimé «gênant» que le référendum devienne «un facteur de populisme». «Il y a d'abord un problème de forme parce que ce sont des questions compliquées qui n'appellent pas une réponse simple», a expliqué le président du Nouveau Centre. Pour le ministre, qui s'exprimait sur la situation en France, l'architecture des mosquées doit notamment être «compatible avec celle des collectivités». Quant au ministre de l'Immigration, Eric Besson, il s'est déclaré préoccupé par ce vote car il donne le sentiment de «stigmatiser l'islam» et a demandé d'éviter ce type de débats, qui relève «de l'urbanisme,» en France.

Au PS, le porte-parole Benoît Hamon a déploré «une décision inquiétante». Ce vote est «assez significatif de cette tentation à se recroqueviller, à se replier sur soi et à faire de l'étranger, en l'occurrence le musulman, le bouc-émissaire de tous les maux des sociétés occidentales», a affirmé l'ex-député européen qui a accusé Nicolas Sarkozy d'introduire le même type de questions en France avec le débat sur l'identité nationale. Selon lui, si l'on posait aux Français la même question qu'aux Suisses, «le résultat serait différent parce que nous avons, nous, une tradition d'intégration des populations musulmanes beaucoup plus grande» que ce pays.
