Anti-Islamophobia Motion Passes Unanimously in Ontario

BREITBART.COM: As debate rages at the national level over a proposed anti-Islamophobia motion, the Ontario legislature has passed its own motion condemning “all forms of Islamophobia” and rebuking “the notable growing tide of anti-Muslim rhetoric and sentiments” in the Canadian province.

Riding the wave of pro-Muslim sentiment following the attack on a Quebec mosque in late January, the Ontario legislature passed the motion unanimously, by a vote of 81-0.

While undoubtedly motivated by good will, the unfortunately worded motion raises a series of concerns that are currently roiling discussions taking place in the Canadian Parliament over a similar measure. Read on and comment » | Thomas D. Williams Ph.D | Monday, February 27, 2017

Ayn Rand: Trump's Favorite Intellectual

ZEIT ONLINE: Libertarian novelist Ayn Rand still sells millions of books in the U.S. years after her death. Why is she so highly admired in the White House?

She was born more than a century ago in Russia, but today the novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand is one of the most powerful intellectual forces in American politics. Speaker of the House of Represantatives Paul Ryan has called her books "the reason I went into public service." President Trump said her novel "The Fountainhead" was one of his favorites. And many of Trump's most prominent team members – including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and CIA director Mike Pompeo – are also fans of Ayn Rand. Year in and year out, her books command a broad popular audience. Combined annual sales of all her books hover around the million mark. Not bad for a writer whose last major work was published in 1957!

What explains the lasting influence of Ayn Rand among American conservatives? And what can her perennial popularity tell us about where the new Trump administration might be headed? » | Guest contribution by Jennifer Burns, Stanford | Monday, February 27, 2017

Sir John Major Launches Extraordinary Attack on Theresa May's Government over Brexit

THE TELEGRAPH: Sir John Major has launched an extraordinary attack on Theresa May's Government over Brexit and warned that leaving the EU could mean cutting the NHS and welfare state.

In his first intervention since the referendum, the former Conservative Prime Minister said that there will be a "price to be paid" if Britain decides to leave the European Union without securing a trade deal.

He said that a hard Brexit is a "high risk" strategy and warned Mrs May that she must not create "unreal and over-optimistic" expectations about Britain's future outside the European Union. Read on and comment » | Steven Swinford, Deputy Political Editor | Monday, February 27, 2017

Swedes Puzzle Over Fox News' Swedish 'Security Advisor'

ABC NEWS: A trans-Atlantic wave of puzzlement is rippling across Sweden for the second time in a week, after a prominent Fox News program featured a "Swedish defense and national security advisor" who's unknown to the country's military and foreign-affairs officials.

Swedes, and some Americans, have been wondering about representations of the Nordic nation in the U.S. since President Donald Trump invoked "what's happening last night in Sweden" while alluding to past terror attacks in Europe during a rally Feb. 18. As Calls Grow to Impeach Trump, Former Nixon Counsel John Dean Sees "Echoes of Watergate"

President Trump has been in office for only 36 days, and there is already a growing chorus of voices calling for his impeachment. This comes as CNN and The New York Times report White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus sought unsuccessfully to have the FBI refute news reports that Donald Trump’s campaign advisers were in frequent contact with Russian intelligence agents ahead of November’s election. The allegations have drawn comparisons to former President Richard Nixon’s 1972 discussion with aides who used the CIA to push the FBI away from investigating the Watergate burglary that later led to his resignation. We speak to someone who has been at the center of the unraveling of a presidency and a vote for impeachment: President Richard Nixon’s White House counsel, John Dean. He is the author of several books, including "The Nixon Defense: What He Knew and When He Knew It," "Conservatives Without Conscience" and "Broken Government: How Republican Rule Destroyed the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches."

Cost of Trump Family Security Vexes New York and Florida Officials

THE GUARDIAN: Senator Chuck Schumer says costs of guarding Trump Tower may add up to $183m a year, while Palm Beach officials complain about cost of Mar-a-Lago visits

New York Senator Chuck Schumer has ramped up pressure on Donald Trump and the federal government to accept the mounting costs of protecting the president, the first family and their extended entourage.

Schumer, the Senate Democratic leader, inserted himself into the debate on Sunday, saying it costs $500,000 per day for nearly 200 police officers to protect Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, which houses the Trump family business headquarters and serves as the home of the first lady, Melania Trump, and the couple’s son, Barron. The senator estimated the cost could rise to as much as $183m annually.

At current estimates, even a four-year Trump administration could be heading for a billion dollars in taxpayer-borne costs – an eight-fold increase of the $97m Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group, estimates it cost to protect Barack Obama over the two terms of his administration. Rede von Merkel auf Münchner Sicherheitskonferenz - Kampf gegen den IS [ist] nur gemeinsam [zu bewältigen] – 18. Februar 2017

Merkel: Europe Must Take More Migrants, Islam Is Not The Cause Of Terrorism

BREITBART.COM: Angela Merkel claims that the European Union still has a “responsibility” to take in more so-called refugees, and pleaded to Islamic governments to help convince people that terrorism has nothing to do with Islam.

The 62-year-old German chancellor began her speech by acknowledging that “the European Union right now is in a very difficult situation due to the result of the British referendum … which is very regrettable”.

While calling on the bloc “to do more to integrate our military capacity”, she also confessed it could not fight terrorism without U.S. president Donald Trump’s assistance. » | Jack Montgomery | Saturday, February 18, 2017

Sicherheitskonferenz: Merkel fordert vom Islam Abgrenzung vom Terrorismus

» | dpa, afp, red | Samstag, 18. Februar 2017

Merkel to Security Summit: Islam Is Not the Source of Terror

THE TIMES OF ISRAEL: German chancellor tells Munich conference that Muslim clergy must fight back against ‘false’ reading of their religion

The Islamic faith is not the cause of terrorism, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Saturday, and urged members of the Muslim clergy to fight back against a “false” interpretation of the religion that permits acts of violence to be carried out in its name.

Arguing for Muslim states to cooperate with the rest of the world to stamp out terror, the chancellor told an international security conference in Munich that this is the only way to persuade non-Muslims that the religion is one of peace. » | Times of Israel Staff and Agencies | Saturday, February 18, 2017

Merkel: 'Islam Is Not the Source of Terrorism'

AL JAZEERA: Both Merkel and US Vice President Mike Pence attend key security conference in Munich with Russia high on the agenda.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said Islam is not the source of "terrorism" and that cooperating with predominantly Muslim states in the fight against it is vital.

Merkel, who has been critical of US President Donald Trump's attempt to impose a temporary travel ban on people from seven Muslim-majority countries, was speaking on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference, with US Vice President Mike Pence in the audience.

"I think, those countries, first and foremost have to give a contribution. Because only in this way we would be able to convince people that it is not Islam that is the source of terrorism. But a falsely understood Islam," she said.

"I expect from religious authorities of Islam to find strong language in order to delimitate peaceful Islam from terrorism committed in the name of Islam. We as non-Muslims cannot do this, it should be done by Islamic clergy and authorities," she added. » | Source: Al Jazeera and news agencies | Saturday, February 18, 2017

To discuss this, Oksana is joined by Shlomo Ben-Ami, former foreign minister of Israel and Vice-President of the Toledo International Centre for Peace.

Annihilating Art and Civilization

When a jihadist attacked the Louvre Museum in Paris he intended to do more than kill people. He carried paint bombs. His intent was to destroy the finest art of Western civilization.

Why art? Art that involves animals or humans is forbidden in the Sharia. Art is the work of the kufar and is part of jahiliyya (civilization of ignorance). Islam annihilates a civilization piece by piece and leaves nothing of its native roots. Civilizational jihad destroys the very cultural history of every nation it comes into contact with.

We see the jihadist annihilation of museums and ancient architecture for the same reason. This civilizational war has been this way for 1400 years.

THE WORLD POST: I was the target of Islamist ire for publishing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper. But a war against all Muslims is not the solution.

In late May 2016, I was invited to a private home in New York for a chat. Like a lot of other people, the host was concerned about Islam’s growing influence in Europe, and she wanted to meet because back in 2005 and 2006, I had been been at the center of the Danish cartoon controversy, one of many clashes between Islam and the secular values of freedom of speech and the right to criticize and satirize religion.
