Ceasefire on the Brink: Israel Launches New Strikes on Gaza after Truce Violations.

‘We Need to Have the Right of Self-determination and Freedom’, Says Former Palestinian Activist
Oct 22, 2025 | We spoke to Hanan Ashrawi, former spokesperson for the Palestine Liberation Organisation.
We asked her if the reason the US hadn't set a deadline for Hamas to disarm was because of the risk of both sides walking away from the peace deal. We also asked Hanan Ashrawi what she thought of Sir Tony Blair being in charge of Trump’s Gaza peace plan.
Sir Tony has said the plans were "the best chance of ending two years of war, misery and suffering and I thank President Trump for his leadership, determination and commitment"
Israel maintains that it is adhering properly to the ceasefire terms and strenuously denies any accusation of ethnic cleansing in the Palestinian territories.

War Could Return to Gaza as Israel Sets Impossible Ceasefire Conditions: Analysis
Oct 16, 2025 | Hamas return the remains of two more Israeli captives but admits that it will need specialised equipment and assistance to locate bodies still buried beneath the rubble.
Israel says there will be no advance to next phase of Gaza peace plan until Hamas returns the remains of all 28 captives.
US President Donald Trump has acknowledged the challenges of finding the remaining bodies and has spoken about the difficulty of retrieving the bodies from destroyed areas in Gaza, calling it a “gruesome process”.
Middle East and Gulf politics analyst, Luciano Zaccara, warns Israel's ceasefire terms are impossible, risking renewed Gaza war as Trump faces a credibility test in Middle East.

» | Alexander Schmalz | Samstag, 11. Oktober 2025

Israel Has Committed Genocide in Gaza, Says UN Commission of Inquiry | BBC News
Sep 16, 2025 | A United Nations commission of inquiry says Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
A new report says there are reasonable grounds to conclude that four of the five genocidal acts defined under international law have been carried out since the start of the war with Hamas in 2023: killing members of a group, causing them serious bodily and mental harm, deliberately inflicting conditions calculated to destroy the group, and preventing births.
Israel's foreign ministry said it categorically rejected the report, denouncing it as "distorted and false".
An Israeli spokesperson accused the three experts on the UN commission of serving as "Hamas proxies" and relying "entirely on Hamas falsehoods, laundered and repeated by others" that had "already been thoroughly debunked".

Historian Avi Shlaim on Israel’s Long War on Palestine | The InnerView
Sep 8, 2025 | Avi Shlaim tells Imran Garda that Zionism has transformed into a relentless killing machine. He describes the violence Israel has unleashed in Gaza as unlimited, unrestrained, and indiscriminate.
How did things come to this? Shlaim, an Iraqi-born British-Israeli historian and Oxford professor, dives deep into this question in his latest book, Genocide in Gaza: Israel’s Long War on Palestine. He argues that Israel’s policy toward Palestinians has gone beyond land grabs and forced displacement, calling it outright genocide.
In this episode of The InnerView, Shlaim reflects on the moment that compelled him to write the book. He also discusses why he believes the two-state solution is no longer possible, and how he thinks people will remember the ongoing conflict a century from now.

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez Says Israel Is ‘Exterminating a Defenceless People’
THE GUARDIAN: Spain announces raft of measures designed to increase pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu to end Gaza war
Spain’s prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, has stepped up his scathing criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza, accusing Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of “exterminating a defenceless people” by bombing hospitals and “killing innocent boys and girls with hunger”.
Speaking on Monday morning to announce a raft of measures designed to increase the pressure on Netanyahu to stop the military campaign, Sánchez said that while the Spanish government would always support Israel’s right to exist and to defend itself, it felt compelled to try to “stop a massacre”.
“Protecting your country and your society is one thing, but bombing hospitals and killing innocent boys and girls with hunger is another thing entirely,” he said.
“What Prime Minister Netanyahu presented in October 2023 as a military operation in response to the horrific terrorist attacks has ended up becoming a new wave of illegal occupations and an unjustifiable attack against the Palestinian civilian population – an attack that the UN special rapporteur and the majority of experts already describe as a genocide.”
The Spanish prime minister pointed to the numbers of dead, injured, displaced and malnourished. “That isn’t defending yourself; that’s not even attacking,” he said. “It’s exterminating a defenceless people. It’s breaking all the rules of humanitarian law.” » | Sam Jones in Madrid | Monday, September 8, 2025
Thank God for a European leader with sound principles and with the courage to speak out against what is happening to these beleaguered and besieged people. Kudos! It is unfathomable how the world can look on while innocent people are being starved to death and killed. And this from a people who should know better. — © Mark Alexander

20 Killed in Gaza Hospital Strikes. Netanyahu Claims ‘Tragic Mishap.’
THE NEW YORK TIMES: Five journalists, along with medical workers, were among the dead at Nasser Hospital. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military would investigate.
Shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday, when an Israeli military strike hit the facade of a hospital building in southern Gaza, emergency responders who were already nearby rushed to the scene. So did journalists.
But just minutes later, according to witnesses, hospital officials and video footage that captured the immediate aftermath of that first blast, a second strike hit the same part of the hospital, enveloping it in a thick cloud of smoke and dust.
Once the air cleared, the full extent of the horror at Nasser Hospital was revealed.
Four Palestinian journalists had been killed on the spot, and a fifth would later die of his wounds. At least 15 more people were killed, including members of the medical staff, rescue workers and patients, according to the Gazan health ministry. Dozens more were injured, it said.
The Israeli military provided no immediate explanation for the attack, one of the deadliest for members of the news media, who have already died in unusually high numbers covering the war. The five journalists had worked for news outlets that included Reuters, The Associated Press and Al Jazeera, according to their employers.
News outlets that employed the journalists identified them as Hussam al-Masri, a cameraman; Mohammad Salama, also a cameraman; Mariam Dagga, a visual-media journalist; Moaz Abu Taha, a freelance journalist; and Ahmed Abu Aziz, a freelance journalist. » | Isabel Kershner, Aaron Boxerman and Ameera Harouda | Isabel Kershner and Aaron Boxerman reported from Jerusalem, and Ameera Harouda from Doha, Qatar. | Monday, August 25, 2025
