» | Quelle: dpa | Dienstag, 24. THE TELEGRAPH: The former US president wrote about his androgynous mind in previously redacted letters 40 years ago to an ex-girlfriend

Barack Obama wrote that he made love to men every day “in the imagination” in a letter to an ex-girlfriend that has surfaced 40 years later.

The comments were revealed in correspondences with Alex McNear, in November 1982, which were previously redacted to remove the more salacious parts.

In one letter, a 21-year-old Mr Obama wrote: “In regard to homosexuality, I must say that I believe this is an attempt to remove oneself from the present, a refusal perhaps to perpetuate the endless farce of earthly life. You see, I make love to men daily, but in the imagination.”

He went on to suggest he wanted to train his brain to become more balanced in the approach to men and women. » | David Millward, US Correspondent | Sunday, August 13, 2023

Obama among 500 Banned from Russia in Retaliation for US Sanctions

THE GUARDIAN: Moscow also denied consular access to detained journalist as US imposes more punitive measures in response to Ukraine invasion

Russia’s foreign ministry has said former President Barack Obama is among 500 US citizens who will be banned in response to the latest round of sanctions announced by Washington.

The ministry also said on Friday that Russia had refused the latest US request for consular access to the detained Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested in March on suspicion of spying.

This move was triggered by the US refusal last month to give visas to media traveling with the foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, to the United Nations, it said in a statement.

“Washington should have learned a long time ago that not a single hostile attack on Russia will go unpunished,” it added. » | Reuters | Friday, May 19, 2023

Donald Trump Replacing Barack after US Election 'Still Hurts', Says Michelle Obama - BBC News

Nov 15, 2022 | Michelle Obama, former US first lady, has said the US electorate’s decision to elect Donald Trump as president following Barack Obama's term in office "still hurts". Speaking to BBC Breakfast, she said: "That's that point in time when you have to ask yourself, was it worth it?" "Did we make a dent? Did it matter? And when I'm in my darkest moment, my most irrational place, I could say, well, maybe not. Maybe we weren't good enough.” However, the former first lady said that seeing “more rationally”, she was able to think about “a whole world of young people who are thinking differently about themselves because of the work that we've done”.

Mrs Obama has revealed in her new book The Light We Carry that she struggles with negative thoughts about her appearance and her “fearful mind”, but that [we] women need to “learn to love ourselves as we are”.

'It Eats Him Alive Inside': Trump's Latest Attack Shows Endless Obsession with Obama

THE GUARDIAN: The president seems more interested in blaming his predecessor than tackling the coronavirus – so what’s driving Trump’s fixation?

President Barack Obama and President-elect Donald Trump once sat together in the Oval Office. “I was immediately struck by Trump’s body language,” wrote journalist Jon Karl in his memoir Front Row at The Trump Show. “I was seeing a side of him I had never seen. He seemed, believe it or not, humbled.”

It was November 2016 and, just for once, Trump was not in charge of the room, Karl recalls. Obama was still president, directing the action and setting the tone. His successor “seemed a little dazed” and “a little freaked out”. What the two men discussed in their meeting that day, only they know.

But what became clear in the next three and a half years is that Obama remains something of an obsession for Trump; the subject of a political and personal inferiority complex.

Observers point to a mix of anti-intellectualism, racism, vengeance and primitive envy over everything from Obama’s Nobel peace prize to the scale of his inauguration crowd and social media following.

Ben Rhodes, a former Obama national security aide, tweeted this week: “Trump’s fact-free fixation on Obama dating back to birtherism is so absurd and stupid that it would be comic if it wasn’t so tragic.” » | David Smith in Washington | Saturday, May 16, 2020

Obama Speechwriter on Trump's "Healthy Regard for Dictators"

Ben Rhodes played a key role in crafting both the Iran deal and the historic thawing in relations between the US and Cuba - and was by Obama's side on all but one of his overseas trips. Here he gives his views on the world after Obama.

Rhodes was deputy foreign policy advisor and speechwriter for the Obama administration, joining the Obama campaign as a speechwriter when he was just 29 years old. Rhodes stayed on for the full eight years of his term, tasked with the role of interpreting and explaining Obama's vision for the world.

In a new book, he reveals that after the election of Donald Trump, Obama wondered whether his presidency came too early, for a world that wasn't ready.
