Burkini Must Be Banned, Says Nicolas Sarkozy As He Launches Presidential Election Campaign

THE TELEGRAPH: Nicolas Sarkozy, the former French president, called for a full burkini ban in France on Thursday night as he warned that immigrants, minorities and the Left were threatening to destroy French identity.

In the first big speech of his campaign to win back the office he lost in 2012, Mr Sarkozy stole many ideas of the far-Right Front National, promising to reclaim France “for the French”.

“I refuse to let the burkini impose itself at French beaches and swimming pools ... there must be a law to ban it throughout the Republic’s territory,” he said to thunderous applause during a speech in Provence, a stronghold of the Front National. » | Peter Foster, Europe Editor and James Rothwell | Thursday, August 25, 2016

Canada: Muslim ‘Mounties’ Allowed to Wear Hijabs on Duty

JIHAD WATCH: Justin Trudeau’s Canada sure has some interesting priorities. While women living in Islamic countries are frequently beaten or killed for not covering up properly, the West is busy fighting to incorporate Islam into every aspect of public society. Allowing the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to wear hijabs does not affect the vast majority of Canadians; however, it is representative of the Sharia normalization movement, which is trying to force its way into the lives of ordinary citizens. » | Blain Tamarin | Thursday, August 25, 2016

Refugees Did Not Bring Terrorism to Germany, Says Angela Merkel

THE GUARDIAN: German chancellor also tells election rally near Berlin that Islam that respects the constitution belongs in the country

Angela Merkel said on Wednesday that refugees had not brought terrorism to Germany, and that Islam belonged in the country as long as it was practised in a way that respected the constitution.

More than a million people fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere arrived in Germany last year. The mood towards them has soured after a spate of attacks on civilians last month, including three carried out by migrants.

Two of the attacks were claimed by Islamic State.

“The phenomenon of Islamist terrorism, of Islamic State, is not a phenomenon that came to us with the refugees,” Merkel said at an election campaign event for her Christian Democrats in the eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ahead of a regional vote on 4 September. » | Reuters in Neustrelitz | Wednesday August 17, 2016
