The 71-year-old broadcaster and host of BBC Two’s University Challenge said he had been receiving “excellent treatment” and that his symptoms were “currently mild”.
In a statem>ent to the PA Media news agency, Paxman said: “I can confirm I have recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I am receiving excellent treatment and my symptoms are currently mild.

MAIL ONLINE: As it’s revealed today’s young will be 25 per cent worse off than their parents, the Newsnight presenter says he and his fellow Baby-Boomers have bequeathed little worth celebrating...
A few years ago, an American author wrote a book about the men and women who endured the Depression and then fought in World War II. He testified to their courage, vision and resilience by calling his book The Greatest Generation.
If anyone attempted to name their children — those born between about 1945 and 1965 — the so-called Baby-Boomers, they might consider calling them The Worst Generation.
It is now received wisdom that today’s young people may be the first generation in modern history to expect to be poorer than their parents.
Earlier this month, a report suggested the young will be 25 per cent worse off than their parents when they reach the age of 65 — the so-called ‘baby bust’ generation, having accumulated £400,000 less by the time they retire.
This may not be entirely their parents’ fault. But we should certainly take a good share of the blame. Read on and comment » | Jeremy Paxman | Monday, October 31, 2011

MAIL Online: TV presenter Jeremy Paxman says Britons are a 'bunch of barbarians' - for watching so much television.
The Newsnight and University Challenge star made the astonishing attack last night on the very people whose viewing habits provide him with his living.
Appearing at the Hay on Wye Festival, Paxman could not hide his contempt for the British love of TV viewing.
He was at the festival to speak about his passion for Victorian art and it was the final question he received from the audience that sparked off his vitriolic rant.
A woman questioned him about why so few people visit art galleries in Britain these days and asked if he thought fuller explanations of paintings on the walls alongside them would bring in more visitors.
Paxman, who had been telling the audience how hugely popular paintings and art galleries were in Victorian times, replied: 'I think the basic problem is that we are a bunch of Barbarians, really.
'It is immensely depressing. Watching TV is the most popular leisure activity in this country now. I find this very depressing. Very depressing indeed. TV Presenter Jeremy Paxman Brands Britons 'Barbarians' for Watching Too Much Television>>> | Sunday, Mail 31, 2009

BBC: A Labour peer turned on a BBC presenter demanding to know how much she was paid during a live interview on MP expenses.
Lord Foulkes clashed with Carrie Gracie on the BBC News Channel after she asked if MPs who had abused their expenses should pay the money back.
He accused the media of ignoring the good work MPs did and demanded to know how much she was paid.
Told it was £92,000 a year, he said she was being paid "nearly twice as much an MP - to come on and talk nonsense".
He added that BBC presenters such as John Humphrys and Jeremy Paxman were paid hundreds of thousands of pounds "to come on TV and sneer at democracy and undermine democracy. The vast majority of MPs are being undermined by you." >>> | Tuesday, May 12, 2009

THE GUARDIAN: Jeremy Paxman has accused the BBC of "fawning" over the royal family, claiming that in the past the corporation has seen itself as "a courtier".
Speaking on an edition of Radio 4's The Archive Hour which will air on Saturday October 11, the Newsnight presenter said the BBC did not know whether to "report" or "celebrate" events such as the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations and the marriage of the Prince of Wales to Camilla Parker-Bowles.
"While the BBC does report royal matters pretty straightforwardly, as it should, there is still a fawning taste, a fawning sense to the tone of voice it adopts when dealing with the heir to throne and his family," Paxman said.
"They do not treat them in the way they would treat other members of the public, to which it might equally reply that they are not other members of the public." Jeremy Paxman Attacks BBC’s Royal Coverage >>> Ben Dowell | October 7, 2008
