Sep 4, 2017 • Nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs bewirtschaftete Anton Huber einen kleinen Hof in der Luzerner Gemeinde Kottwil.
Er wollte seinen neun Kindern eine gute Ausbildung ermöglichen. Das schien ihm zuhause unmöglich. Deshalb schloss sich die Familie Huber 1951 einer Gruppe von Auswanderern an, die in Brasilien eine bessere Zukunft suchte.
Die Familien von Anton und Klaus Huber lebten in Zelten, sie wuschen sich im Fluss, wurden von Mücken fast aufgefressen. Aber ein grosser Idealismus gab den Siedlern Kraft: Sie wollten in der Savanne eine Kolonie aufbauen, in der Kleinbauern eine umweltverträgliche Landwirtschaft betreiben und ihre Produkte gemeinsam vermarkten.

A former senior Saudi intelligence officer has claimed that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is a “psychopath with no empathy” who once boasted that he could kill the kingdom’s ruler at the time, King Abdullah, and replace him with his own father.
In an interview on US television, Saad Aljabri, who fled Saudi Arabia in May 2017 and is living in exile in Canada, also said he had been warned by an associate in 2018, after the murder of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, that a Saudi hit team was heading to Canada to kill him.
Aljabri told 60 Minutes on CBS he was warned “don’t be in a proximity of any Saudi mission in Canada. Don’t go to the consulate. Don’t go to the embassy.” When he asked why, he said he was told “they dismembered the guy, they kill him. You are on the top of the list.”
Some details of the alleged murder plot, which were detailed in litigation in the US and Canada, have already been reported. But the 60 Minutes interview represents the first time Aljabri has publicly spoken about his break with Prince Mohammed.
He also spoke of the plight of his two youngest children, Sarah and Omar, who were arrested and are in prison in Saudi Arabia in what is widely seen as an attempt to force their father back to the country. » |

LE FIGARO : Un tremblement de terre d'une magnitude de 6,5 a frappé le nord-est de Taïwan dimanche selon l'agence de météorologie, les habitants signalant de fortes secousses dans la capitale Taipei mais aucun rapport ne faisant état de dégâts importants dans l'immédiat.
L'agence de météorologie de Taïwan a constaté un tremblement de terre de magnitude 6,5, tandis que l'US Geological Survey a donné une force plus faible de 6,2. Il a frappé le comté de Yilan au nord-est à 13H11 heure locale (05H11 GMT) à une profondeur de 67 kilomètres (42 miles). Shortages of staff in many sectors of the economy, rising prices and taxes only make matters worse. In addition, the government's handling of the Coronavirus pandemic has been so bad that the U.K. has seen the second or third highest number of new cases in the world over the past week with no sign of numbers coming down. In the meantime, the government insists that further measures such as wearing masks and social distancing should be a matter for individual choice which means that few are wearing masks and the virus will inevitably spread. In the meantime, the world looks on at our stupidity.

As they negotiate a broad alliance among themselves, the leaders of six opposition parties appear to have agreed on turning the next election into a kind of referendum on the presidential system that Mr. Erdogan introduced four years ago and considers one of his proudest achievements.
His opponents say that presidential system has allowed Mr. Erdogan to concentrate nearly authoritarian power — fueling corruption and allowing him to rule by decree, dictate monetary policy, control the courts and jail tens of thousands of political opponents.

Paulon, who didn’t have a partner at the time, saw this movement as a political struggle, rather than a personal one.
“I fought for the law without knowing if I would ever get married or not,” said Paulon, vice president of the Argentine LGBT Federation. “But on the journey to this achievement, I met my partner.”
Paulon and his partner were married three years after the law was passed—turning a national political achievement into a personal milestone they were able to celebrate with their friends and family.
“If the state says that all families are equal before the law and that all families have the same worth, this inevitably has an effect on daily life and on social perception about sexual diversity,” Paulon said. “The fact of being able to access marriage is also personal.”
Since 2010, more than 15,000 same-sex couples have been married in Argentina, the tenth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. The decision illustrated Latin America’s unlikely leadership in the fight for LGBT equal rights. Angela Merkel a tourné vendredi une page importante de sa carrière politique. Elle a participé, à Bruxelles, à ce qui devrait être son dernier sommet européen, le 107e depuis 2005. Alors que les négociations s'accélèrent en Allemagne autour du social-démocrate Olaf Scholz et que la prochaine réunion des Vingt-Sept est programmée peu avant Noël, il fallait rendre hommage à la chancelière. Le président du Conseil européen, -Charles Michel, l'a fait vendredi matin.
Les réunions des Vingt-Sept « sans Angela, c'est Rome sans le Vatican, Paris sans la tour Eiffel », a-t-il affirmé. À la surprise générale, Charles Michel a ensuite fait diffuser un message de l'ancien président des États-Unis, Barack Obama. Louant le « sens de l'humour », « le pragmatisme sage » et « la boussole morale constante » de la chancelière, celui-ci s'est dit « heureux d'être devenu votre ami ». PINK NEWS: A gay man from Afghanistan who was burned by a Taliban member has said he is “shocked” by the lack of support and solidarity shown by the international LGBT+ community.
Sohil – whose surname has been withheld to protect his identity – is a young gay Afghan whose life was thrown into disarray when the Taliban seized power in August.
Afghanistan was never accepting of homosexuality, but he was in contact with a small network of other gay people. Now, they’re all “living in the shadows” – hiding themselves to evade capture and torture by the extremist group.
“Imagine you have all the great hopes for your life, you have everything, and then one day you wake up and everything is gone,” he tells PinkNews. “I lost my university, I lost my life, I lost my community. Even the boys I was in contact with, they are all living in the shadows. They are all hiding themselves.”
His daily life is very different to what it was before the Taliban took over. Sohil says he was just a “normal person” before extremists weaponised his sexuality. He was a medical student who had ambitions to get out of Afghanistan and build a life for himself. THE GUARDIAN: Buckingham Palace says Elizabeth II is now back in Windsor after doctors advised a few days’ rest

The Queen spent Wednesday night in hospital after cancelling a visit to Northern Ireland, Buckingham Palace has said.
The 95-year-old had been due to take part in a two-day trip, but doctors told her that she should rest for a couple of days at Windsor Castle.
However she was then admitted to hospital for “preliminary investigations”. She returned to Windsor on Thursday.
The Queen was seen by specialists at the private King Edward VII’s hospital in central London. Her admittance is understood not to have been related to coronavirus. It was her first overnight stay in hospital since 2013, when she also spent one night at the King Edward VIII, being treated for gastroenteritis.
A palace source said that a “cautious approach” had been taken by the medical team aiding her. They added that the overnight stay was for practical reasons and she was working on Thursday afternoon, undertaking “light duties”. » | Harry Taylor | Thursday, October 21, 2021

Chicken with the flavors of Provence makes a surprisingly easy dinner.

Level: Easy | Total: 1 hr | Prep: 15 min | Inactive: 10 min | Cooking time: 35 min | Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients:
1/4 cup good olive oil
3 tablespoons minced garlic (9 cloves)
1/3 cup dry white wine
1 tablespoon grated lemon zest (2 lemons)
2 tablespoons freshly-squeezed lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon minced fresh thyme leaves
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 boneless chicken breasts, skin on (6 to 8 ounces each)
1 lemon
Directions [Method]:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. [200C]
Warm the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, add the garlic, and cook for just 1 minute but don't allow the garlic to turn brown. Off the heat, add the white wine, lemon zest, lemon juice, oregano, thyme, and 1 teaspoon salt and pour into a 9 by 12-inch baking dish.
Pat the chicken breasts dry and place them skin side up over the sauce. Brush the chicken breasts with olive oil and sprinkle them liberally with salt and pepper. Cut the lemon in 8 wedges and tuck it among the pieces of chicken.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the size of the chicken breasts, until the chicken is cooked through and the skin is lightly browned. If the chicken isn't browned enough, put it under the broiler [grill] for 2 minutes. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil and allow to rest for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with salt and serve hot with the pan juices.

C’est le son lointain et familier des cloches qu’on surprend en se promenant dans le paisible quartier d’Ehrenfeld, probablement celles de l’église baptiste de la Stuppstrasse, toute proche. À ce tintement métallique et rituel, pourrait bientôt se superposer, chaque vendredi, entre midi et 15 heures, l’appel du muezzin à la prière, diffusé par la Mosquée centrale établie à deux pas.
Le même régime est censé s’appliquer à la quinzaine de mosquées que compte la cité rhénane. Barbados has elected its first president with just weeks to go until the Caribbean island becomes a republic and ceases to recognise Queen Elizabeth as its head of state.
The island’s governor general, Dame Sandra Mason, was elected almost unanimously by the former British colony’s parliament on Wednesday, with only one member declining to vote.
Mason, a 72-year-old judge and former ambassador, will be sworn in on 30 November, the 55th anniversary of her country’s independence from Britain in 1966.
