Israel Clashes with US As It Calls for Destruction of Iran's Nuclear Industry

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, questions Washington's friendlier stance towards Tehran

The United States and Israel clashed on Wednesday over Iran as Benjamin Netanyahu called for Tehran’s entire nuclear programme to be dismantled and warned the world against accepting a “partial deal”.

The Israeli prime minister made clear his dismay at Washington’s softer approach towards Iran. He said the ongoing negotiations should insist that Tehran end all enrichment of uranium, destroy all fissile material and close water plants and underground bunkers that he said could only be used to build a nuclear bomb.

The six world powers involved in talks with Iran have not made firm commitments on what it would allow Tehran to keep, but are not insisting on it eradicating its nuclear industry.

“I think a partial deal that leaves Iran with these capabilities is a bad deal,” said Mr Netanyahu. » | Alex Spillius, Diplomatic Correspondent | Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Angela Merkel's Phone 'May Have Been Tapped by US'

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Chancellor Angela Merkel's personal mobile phone may have been monitored by the US, a German government spokesman has said

Germany has received information that US intelligence may be spying on the mobile phone of Chancellor Angela Merkel, who called President Barack Obama to protest, her spokesman said.

"The chancellor today telephoned President Obama" and "made clear that she unequivocally disapproves of such practices, should they be confirmed, and regards them as completely unacceptable," spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a statement released on Wednesday.

President Barack Obama sought to assure Mrs Merkel that the US is not monitoring her communications after the Chancellor raised the issue.

Jay Carney, the White House spokesman, said that the allegations that they had intentionally tapped her phone were untrue.

"Today President Obama and Chancellor Merkel spoke by telephone regarding the allegations that the US National Security Agency intercepted the communications of the German chancellor. » | Josie Ensor, and Raf Sanchez in Washington | Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Putin Says Foreign Foes Use Radical Islam to Weaken Russia

REUTERS: President Vladimir Putin accused foreign rivals on Tuesday of using radical Islam to weaken Russia and appealed to Muslim clerics to help reduce tensions after a deadly suicide bombing and nationalist riots.

The comments, his first on this month's riots in Moscow, were delivered in the mainly Muslim region of Bashkortostan and underlined Kremlin concerns that ethnic or religious tensions could threaten the unity of the Russian state.

Monday's suicide bombing, blamed on a Muslim woman from the North Caucasus, killed six people on a bus in Volgograd and raised fears about attacks as Russia prepares for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

"Some political forces use Islam, the radical currents within it ... to weaken our state and create conflicts on Russian soil that can be managed from abroad," Putin told Muslim clerics meeting in Ufa, Bashkortostan's capital, in southern Russia.

"Tensions between the West and the Islamic world are rising today, and someone is trying to gamble on that by pouring fuel on the fire," he added. » | Alexei Anishchuk | Reuters | Ufa, Russia | Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Saudi Arabia Warns It Will Use Force If Campaigners Protest Against Female Driving Ban

THE INDEPENDENT: Saudi Arabia's government has warned it will use force if campaigners take to the streets protest against the country's ban on women driving.

Saudi women's rights activists posted online photographs and video clips of themselves defying the ban this month after some members of the Shoura Council, an influential body that advises the government, called for an end to the prohibition.

Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world where women are barred from driving, but debate about the ban, once confined to the private sphere and social media, is spreading to public forums too.

The Saudi Interior Ministry said calls on social media for “banned gatherings and marches” to encourage women to drive were illegal. » | John Hall | Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Saudi Arabia Needs the Protection of the US

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: The alliance between the world’s most powerful democracy and a feudal theocracy seems implausible but the US-Saudi alliance has been one of the last remaining post Second World War constants in the Middle East, writes Chris Doyle

The alliance between the world’s most powerful democracy and a feudal theocracy seems implausible but the US-Saudi alliance has been one of the last remaining post Second World War constants in the Middle East. The US provided Saudi security cover; while Saudi Arabia ensured the free flow of oil boosting production at times of crises.

There have been rifts – the 1973 Arab oil embargo, the refusal of the US to sell arms to Saudi in the 1980s due to Israeli objections and the fall out over the role of Saudi hijackers in the 9/11 bombings. US support for Israel always irked the Saudis, whilst Saudi human rights abuses and treatment of women was always an embarrassment for Washington. Despite all this, the relationship never reached the nadir that it has now. Has it reached its sell by date?

For a state that prefers private diplomacy, Saudi public outbursts attract attention. Saudi’s refusal to take up a seat at the UN Security Council and open rebuke of the Obama administration are meant to be noticed. The Saudi leadership expects to be listened to, to be party to major decisions, but it has felt excluded.

Saudi officials say that the Americans are ignoring all their allies and cosying up to their enemies, notably Iran. On every issue that matters to Riyadh, the US has, in their eyes, let them down. (They conveniently forget Washington’s silence over the Saudi intervention in Bahrain). » | Chris Doyle * | Wednesday, October 23, 2013

French Resistance: Hollande Backs Tougher EU Privacy Laws After NSA Backlash

In the international arena, sometimes even best friends fall out. President Obama made an apologetic call to his French counterpart over allegations the NSA has spied on millions in France, an argument which is causing real friction in the historic alliance between Paris and Washington. In just a single month the agency intercepted more than 70 million calls - prompting Hollande to join the growing club of those urging tougher privacy laws in the EU. The French leader is planning to address the European summit later this week. EU lawmakers have already backed new laws to protect information, which would prevent transfers of data to third countries ... a practice the U.S. exploited. But Paul Murphy - an Irish member of the European Parliament - doubts Washington will learn anything from its mistakes.

Ex-French PM: Terrorism Can't Justify Spying On Citizens!

Uproar in France over revelations the NSA has spied on millions of its citizens, has forced Washington to make one of its strongest admissions yet regarding its surveillance practices. After a phone conversation between Barack Obama and President Francois Hollande, the White House conceded the latest claims raise legitimate questions. To discuss this further we can now go live to Paris and talk to the renowned French politician Dominique de Villepin, who served as the country's Prime, Interior and Foreign Ministers.

Pope Expels German 'Luxury Bishop' From Diocese

Bishop of Limburg, Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst

ABC NEWS: Pope Francis temporarily expelled a German bishop from his diocese on Wednesday because of a scandal over a 31-million-euro project to build a new residence complex, but refused popular calls to remove him permanently.

The Vatican didn't say how long Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst would spend away from the diocese of Limburg and gave no information on where he would go or what he would do. It said his fate would ultimately be decided by the outcome of a church commission investigation into the expenditures.

It said Limburg's vicar general, the Rev. Wolfgang Roesch, who had been due to take up his duties on Jan. 1, would start immediately and would run the diocese during Tebartz-van Elst's absence.

At the center of the controversy is the 31-million-euro ($42 million) price tag for the construction of a new bishop's residence complex and related renovations. Tebartz-van Elst has said the bill was actually for 10 projects and there were additional costs because of regulations on buildings under historical protection.

The Limburg scandal has been front-page news for weeks in the country where Martin Luther launched the Reformation five centuries ago in response to what he said were excesses and abuses within the church. The perceived lack of financial transparency has also struck a chord since a church tax in Germany brings in billions of euros a year to the German church. » | Nicole Winfield and Daniela Petroff | Vatican City | Associated Press | Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Islamic Police Arrest 150 in Nigeria Accused of Indecent Dress, Prostitution and Cross-dressing

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Religious police in northern Nigeria detain scores of people for flouting Shariah law including 45 at a birthday party due to "indecent dress that is against the practice of Islam"

Religious police in Nigeria's northern city of Kano on Tuesday publicly paraded scores of people arrested for flouting Islamic law, including transvestites and people wearing clothing deemed too tight or revealing.

They also publicly shaved off the supposedly overly long hair of several men.

Mohammed Yusuf Yola, spokesman for the board that polices implementation of Shariah law, told The Associated Press that 45 men and women were detained at a birthday party in a hotel Sunday because of "indecent dress that is against the practice of Islam."

He said the recent arrests of 150 people, including 55 alleged prostitutes, is part of a new campaign to enforce Islamic law, which officially governs nine of Nigeria's 37 states. All those arrested were Muslims, Yola said.

"Our agency will not relent in its efforts to ensure compliance of Shariah legal system; the agency will do its best to make sure that society is free from all social vices," he said. » | AP | Edited by Steve Wilson | Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Saudi Arabia in Diplomatic Shift Away from Old Ally US

Barack Obama and King Abdullah
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: A bitter diplomatic row between US and Saudi Arabia has burst into the open in a development that could threaten one of the Middle East’s core alliances and Washington’s leadership in the region

The public rupture saw the head of Saudi intelligence declare that the kingdom was “scaling back” co-operation with the CIA over arming and training Syrian rebels and seeking alternate weapons suppliers to the United States.

The unprecedented rebuke by Prince Bandar Bin Sultan al-Saud came after Saudi Arabia stunned diplomats by rejecting a prized seat on the UN Security Council.

The decision to reject the seat, Prince Bandar reportedly told diplomats, was intended as “a message for the US” about Saudi frustration with the Obama administration’s long-running failure to arm rebels in Syria and the rising prospect of a nuclear deal that would favour Riyadh’s arch-foe, Iran.

John Kerry, the US Secretary of State, yesterday confirmed that he had been forced to defend US policy at lengthy meetings with Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Saudi foreign minister, in Paris. » | Peter Foster, in Washington, Ruth Sherlock in Beirut and Alex Spillius | Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Many Prisoners Converting to Islam in the UK

Inmates Bullied into Converting to Islam

The Prison Officers Association says the increase in forced conversions is down to the growing power of Muslim gangs.

SKY NEWS: Sky News has learned that increasing numbers of British inmates are being bullied into converting to Islam while in jail.

The Prison Officers Association says it is symptomatic of the growing power and influence of Muslim gangs in prison.

However, there are also concerns that some of those converts could be radicalised by more extremist elements in prison.

Sky News spoke to one young woman who said her brother was being bullied by members of a Muslim gang, who were trying to force him into converting to Islam.

The woman did not want to be identified for fear of reprisals against her brother, who is serving a sentence in excess of 10 years in a high security prison in England.

She said: "He just looks like a broken man ... he's tearful on visits. I'm just really scared for him."

She also claimed the bullying had taken a more violent turn: "He's been physically assaulted. He's had black eyes.

"In the showers, he got threatened with a knife. He's not going to back down. He's not going to convert for anyone."

She added: "He just spends his time in hiding in his cell. He's got at least another five years to serve. I don't know how much longer he can hold out." » | Mark White, Home Affairs Correspondent | Sunday, October 20, 2013

Boycott the English Language Says Top French Intellectual

Michel Serres,  French philosopher
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: French philosopher complains there are more examples of the English language in Toulouse than there was German during occupation

A leading French intellectual has called for a boycott of all products whose advertising slogans use English and of films whose titles are not translated, in the latest salvo in a rearguard action against the "invasion" of France by the English language.

"There are more English words (in adverts) on the walls of Toulouse than there were German words during the Occupation," said philosopher Michel Serres, a member of the Acadamie française, the state body which aims to protect the French language.

"I want to invite the French to go on strike. Each time that advertising is English, you don't buy the product, each time a film's title is not translated, you don't go into the cinema," he said in an interview with la Depeche du Midi [sic] [La Dépêche du Midi] newspaper.

Serres' appeal came just months after government plans to allow more courses to be taught in English at French universities caused uproar.

The battle by parts of the French elite against the perceived violation of their mother tongue goes back decades, with a law passed in 1994 that stipulates that French is compulsory in education, business and public services. » | Rory Mulholland, Paris | Tuesday, October 22, 2013

The Front National Is the Most Popular Party in France. Are You Happy Now, Eurocrats?

TELEGRAPH – BLOGS – DOUGLAS CARSWELL: Which is the most popular party in France?

Not hapless President Hollande and his Socialists, sure? No. They are down to 21 percent in the polls. Nor is it the centre-Right Gaullistes, who are on measly 22 percent – and have scarcely ever been less popular.

The shocking truth is that the most popular political party in France, according to one recent poll, is the Front National, supported by almost one in four French voters.

The Front National is beyond the pale. They are not simply a protest party, but extreme. Their political philosophy, in so far as they have one, seems to me to derive from a reading of Jean Raspail’s dystopian novel, the Camp of the Saints. Pessimistic, they seem to lack any uplifting vision of France or the future.

So why are they doing so well? Read on and comment » | Douglas Carswell | Tuesday, October 22, 2013

My comment:

Douglas Carswell doesn't know what he's talking about. Most politicians these days don't.

Many of us have been saying for years that all this uncontrolled immigration was going to bring a strong reaction. The pendulum always swings back – eventually. Further, some of us have been saying for a very long time that the European Union was going too fast; it has been trying to achieve too much. It has been expanding too much, and too rapidly.

The European Union was not a bad idea. But it has been ruined. The euro was not a bad idea either. But that has been ruined too. I, for one, was always pro-European; but even I have now become disillusioned with the whole project.

For starters, the EU should have remained a Judaeo-Christian club: Only countries with a common heritage should ever have been allowed to join. But instead of that, the powers-that-be have been determined to continue with the experiment of bringing peoples together who have little or nothing in common, and still less in common when it comes to their vision for the future.

The result of all this is that populist parties are on the up in Europe. Why! Even Norway now has a populist government. Who would have predicted that? Extreme poverty breeds communism; extreme destruction of the nation state brings about populist right-wing, nationalist parties. There's nothing that should surprise us about this. What is surprising is that the politicians from the established parties have been so slow to understand this.

Marine Le Pen is doing so well in France because of a confluence of unfortunate circumstances, not least of which is the growing underclass of Muslim immigrants into the country who have little or no desire to integrate into the French, secular way of life. Many French people now feel threatened as a result. Marine Le Pen and the Front National offer a way out for them; they offer hope for the future where now there is only despair.

The French, like the British, are a very proud nation. And rightly so. They have so much to be proud of. Marine Le Pen plays on that; and it is leading her to success.

I tire of all these people who keep on slapping extreme right-wing, fascist, Nazi labels on her. So far, at least, I see no real evidence of anything too much more extreme that getting France out of the euro, reversing all immigration, and a determination to keep France French, for the French. If it takes Marine Le Pen to achieve this, then so be it. Vive la belle France! – © Mark

Former Enemy of Islam to Establish 1st Islamic Political Party in Europe

Arnoud van Doorn, convert to Islam
SAUDI GAZETTE: MADINAH – A Dutchman who was involved in a derogatory film about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is aiming to establish the first Islamic political party in Europe.

The party will focus on serving Islam and Muslims not only in the Netherlands but Europe as whole, said Arnoud van Doorn, who was involved in the production of the controversial “Fitna”.

Van Doorn had reverted to Islam about a year ago and performed Haj this year.

He also performed Umrah in February.

“The party will comprise a large number of Muslim members as well as non-Muslim members who sympathize with Islam and Muslims,” he said.

Van Doorn regretted taking part in the film, which he said contained a lot of misleading and incorrect information about the Prophet (pbuh).

However, he also denied producing or directing “Fitna”.

“I only publicized and marketed the film while I was responsible for information and public relations in Geert Wilders’ political party (Dutch Party for Freedom), which produced the film,” he said.

Van Doorn said his new political party would project the virtues of Islam in Europe and elsewhere.

He said: “I have taken a solemn pledge to work day and night in the service of Islam to atone for my previous sins. I hope that Allah will accept my repentance and forgive me.”

Van Doorn said he will produce a film called “Muhammad: Master of Human Beings” in collaboration with the Canadian Dawa Society, which had invited him to perform Haj. » | Majed Al-Sugairi | Okaz/Saudi Gazette | Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Saudi Arabia Human Rights Record Criticised at UN Meeting

THE GUARDIAN: Countries at human rights council accuse kingdom of abusing rights of women and foreign workers

Saudi Arabia's human rights record has come under fire at the United Nations, with critics accusing the kingdom of jailing activists without due process and abusing the basic rights of Saudi women and foreign workers.

At the UN human rights council on Monday, Britain called for the abolition of the Saudi system of male guardianship for women and was joined by the US in raising cases of forced labour imposed on migrant workers. The US delegation also voiced concern at Saudi restrictions on freedoms of religion and association, while Germany called for a moratorium on its use of the death penalty.

"Many countries have problematic records, but Saudi Arabia stands out for its extraordinarily high levels of repression and its failure to carry out its promises to the human rights council," Joe Stork, the deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement to the meeting. » | Reuters in Geneva | Monday, October 21, 2013

Dennis Rodman Describes '7-star Party' Lifestyle of Kim Jong-un

Kim Jong-un with Dennis Rodman
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Dennis Rodman, the former US basketball star, has described the life of Kim Jong-un as a "seven-star" party with constant cocktails, jet-skis at the North Korean dictator's private island and luxury yachts.

French Justice Minister: Front National Sees 'Blacks into Branches of the Trees, Jews into the Ovens'

Christiane Taubira, French Justice Minister
THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: The black French justice minister, who was labelled a monkey by a Front National, is being sued by the party over the 'outrageous' claim that it is racist and homophobic

Marine Le Pen's far-Right Front National (FN), which had to jettison a party member for comparing Christiane Taubira to a monkey, now plans to sue the minister for her "outrageous" claim that the FN is racist and homophobic.

The monkey comparison was made by Anne-Sophie Leclere, an FN candidate for France's spring's municipal elections in a small town in the northeastern Ardennes region.

She posted a photomontage on her Facebook page of a baby monkey, with the caption: "At 18 months", next to a photo of Miss Taubira, with the caption: "Now".

She denied any racist intent but last week told the investigative TV programme that unearthed the montage: "I'd rather see her (Taubira) in the branches of a tree than in the government." » | Rory Mulholland, Paris | Sunday, October 20, 2013

Dutch 'Black Pete' Christmas Custom May Be Racist, Warns UN

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: United Nations expresses concern that Dutch Christmas tradition of Father Christmas is racist and "infringes the human rights" of black people

A row over the traditional Dutch Christmas custom of "Black Pete" has reached the UN as the international organisation's human rights body opens an investigation into whether the character is a "racist stereotype".

Every November 17, Sinterklaas, the Dutch Father Christmas, who is white, brings presents for children helped by mischievous servants dressed as pageboys, wearing black make-up, curly wigs and with large, painted on red lips.

It has emerged that the UN's high commission for human rights has written to the Dutch government expressing concerns over the tradition and accusing the authorities of failing to react to complaints of racial discrimination.

"Some practices, which are part of cultural heritage, may infringe upon human rights," said the letter. » | Bruno Waterfield | Monday, October 21, 2013

Britain’s Jails Facing ‘Growing Problem’ of Forced Conversion to Islam, Officers Warn

THE INDEPENDENT: Issue is a symptom of the increasing influence of Muslim gangs in jails, according to a prison law expert

British prisoners are increasingly being forced to convert to Islam by their fellow inmates, the prison officers’ union has warned.

Muslim gangs are growing in power and influence among prisoners, and there are concerns that they are targeting vulnerable new arrivals – making prisons a breeding ground for extremism.

“It is a concern, and there’s been clear evidence from a variety of different incidents. Young men are being targeted and then coerced into converting to Islam,” the association’s general secretary, Steve Gillan, told Sky News.

One woman, whose brother is being bullied by a gang trying to force him to convert, told the broadcaster: “He just looks like a broken man ... he's tearful on visits. I'm just really scared for him. He's been physically assaulted. He's had black eyes. In the showers, he got threatened with a knife. He's not going to back down. He's not going to convert for anyone.” » | Adam Withnall | Sunday, October 20, 2013

Future of London: The New York Times on the Foreign Rich Buying Up Property

Tower Bridge, London
THE OBSERVER: Property in the capital has become a global reserve currency for the super elite, altering its delicate cultural ecology, says Michael Goldfarb. Then he explains why his story had such an impact

Our neighbours Lauren and Matt and their kids moved out of London to Cambridge the other week. Bibi, Andy and their two left for Bristol in June. Another of my eight-year-old's classmates and her family are heading out after Christmas. In my book this is a trend.

The moves are not examples of the lifecycle of the striving middle classes. Nor are they examples of middle-class folks being thrown on hard times by the sluggish British economy. The families moving out had good incomes. Matt, who had been looking for a house for more than three years, summed up the reason for leaving best: "I don't want to be a slave to a mortgage for the next 25 years." Given the astronomical rise in house prices here, he wasn't speaking metaphorically.

This is what happens when property in your city becomes a global reserve currency. For that is what property in London has become, first and foremost. The property market is no longer about people making a long-term investment in owning their shelter, but a place for the world's richest people to park their money at an annualised rate of return of around 10%. It has made my adopted hometown a no-go area for increasing numbers of the middle class.

According to Britain's Office for National Statistics, London house prices rose by 9.7% between July 2012 and July 2013. In the surrounding suburbs they rose by a mere 2.6%. The farther away from London you go, the lower the numbers get. When you finally cross the border into Scotland, house prices actually decline by 2%.

The gap between London prices and those of the rest of the country is now at a historic high and there is only one way to explain it.

London houses and apartments are a form of money.

The reasons are simple to understand. In 2011, at the height of the eurozone crisis, citizens of the two countries at the epicentre of the cataclysm – Greece and Italy – bought £400m of London bricks and mortar. The Italian and Greek rich, fearing the single currency would collapse, got their money out of euros and parked it some place where government was relatively stable and the tax regime was gentle – very, very gentle. Considering that tax evasion in Italy and Greece was a significant contributory factor to their debt problems, it just seems grotesquely cynical to encourage this kind of behaviour.

But that's what Britain in general, and London in particular, does. The city is essentially a tax haven with great theatre, free museums and formidable dining. If you can demonstrate that you have a residence in another country, you are taxed only on your British earnings. » | Michael Goldfarb | Sunday, October 20, 2013

London Mulls Re-using Graves as Burial Space Runs Out

In the increasingly crowded UK it's a rush hour for London's cemeteries. Graveyards are rapidly running out of space and predicted to be full within the next few decades. So the authorities have come up with controversial idea to simply reuse them. Laure Smith reports how that may not solve the problem.

Rome: Italian Anti-austerity Protesters Clash with Police

EURONEWS: ROME (Reuters) – Demonstrators clashed with Italian police on Saturday as tens of thousands marched through Rome to protest against unemployment, government cuts and big construction projects they say take money away from social services.

Hooded protesters turned over garbage bins in front of the Economy Ministry and set several of them on fire. Using sticks and clubs, they attacked police in riot gear. The police charged and chased demonstrators up side streets.

The hooded demonstrators, who infiltrated a mostly peaceful protest, threw smoke bombs, eggs and bottles at the ministry and broke the window of a nearby bank. Police said 15 of the most violent protesters were arrested and two policemen were injured.

In another area along the demonstration route, police defused a large firework with a bullet inside, which they said could have caused serious damage had it gone off. » | Naomi O’Leary | Sunday, October 20, 2013

Hate Preacher Anjem Choudary Being Used in Al-Shabaab Recruiting Video as Terror Groups Target British Muslims Who Question Radical Islam

Anjem Choudary
MAIL ONLINE: Mohammed Ansar, 39, is British documentary film-maker and journalist / He was singled out in video and police visited him on Wednesday evening / The hour-long video is titled 'Woolwich attack: It’s an eye for an eye' / Other targets include Usama Hasan, a researcher with Quilliam Foundation / Imam and broadcaster Ajmal Masroor wrote about the threat on Facebook

Militant preacher Anjem Choudary has been identified as a leading British influence for the Al Qaeda-linked terrorists who carried out the Kenya shopping mall atrocity, it emerged yesterday.

London-based Choudary, who has been linked to dozens of terrorist suspects, is highlighted in a video issued by East African group Al-Shabaab.

The video also says 11 Britons have died waging jihad in Somalia.

One of the leading figures in Al-Shabaab – blamed for last month’s Nairobi attack which left 67 dead – is ‘white widow’ Samantha Lewthwaite. The whereabouts of Lewthwaite, former wife of 7/7 bomber Jermaine Lindsay, remains a mystery.

Counter-terrorism detectives at Scotland Yard, who have been on a heightened state of alert following the Kenyan outrage, are examining the 58-minute video by Al-Shabaab which endorses Choudary.

Called ‘Woolwich Attack: It’s an Eye for an Eye’, the English-language production urges Muslims in Britain to go to Somalia to fight jihad or carry out terror attacks in the UK if they are unable to travel.

It is the first such propaganda video to be entirely focused on recruiting Britons and inciting terror attacks in the UK. » | Jill Reilly | Friday, October 18, 2013

Faith Schools May Lose the Right to Teach Religion from Their Own Perspective and Be Forced to Tell Pupils More about Other Faiths

MAIL ONLINE: Report says RE should be added to national curriculum / Fears that subject has been marginalised and is being badly taught / Faith schools would be legally required to teach standard syllabus / Currently RE is a compulsory subject but with no agreed content

Faith schools could lose the right to teach their own belief and instead have to give more weight to other religions.

A report by the Religious Education Council for England and Wales says RE has become marginalised and should be added to the national curriculum.

But that would make it a legal requirement for all school to teach the same syllabus, regardless of their faiths.

The report, a three year review of religious teaching in schools, could form the basis of a new curriculum when it is released next week. » | Chris Pleasance | Saturday, October 19, 2013

Steve Jobs: Apple Founder a Sexist Bully, a Skinflint and a Liar Says Chrisann Brennan, Former Partner

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: The ex-girlfriend of Steve Jobs says in her tell-all biography that he could behave even more appallingly than anyone ever supposed

He was the billionaire crown prince of Silicon Valley, hailed across the world as the ablest chief executive of his generation and a visionary model to young entrepreneurs aspiring to greatness.

Yet behind closed doors, Steve Jobs could be a sexist bully, a skinflint and a pathological liar who behaved appallingly, according to a forthcoming memoir by the first girlfriend of the Apple boss.

In a candid account of their on-off relationship through the 1970s, Chrisann Brennan, the mother of Jobs’s eldest child, depicts an “emotional vortex” of a man badly scarred by his childhood.

The Apple chief, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2011 at the age of 56, is repeatedly accused of wrongdoing in The Bite in the Apple, due to be published in the United States this month.

The memoir tells the full story of how one of the most accomplished captains of American industry often behaved like a spoilt brat. » | Jon Swaine, New York | Saturday, October 19, 2013
