Russian agents seized millions of dollars worth of Audemars Piguet watches in Moscow in an apparent retaliation for Swiss sanctions banning luxury goods exports, Bloomberg reported, citing Swiss newspaper NZZ am Sonntag.
The watches, which can cost more than £700,000 apiece, were seized from the firm’s local premises by agents from Russia’s FSB security service on Tuesday, the newspaper said. It cited independent sources and a confidential Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs memo written for members of parliament that apparently gave details of the raid.

Seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, haben wir eine Hassfigur gehabt, worüber alle dezenten Menschen sich einigen konnten. Das war natürlich Adolf Hitler. Er war ein Schreckgespenst aller Schreckgespenster! Nun hat sogar Hitler Konkurrenz im Name Wladimir Putin!
Bis vor kurzem, vor diesem Krieg in der Ukraine, hätte man geglaubt, daß hier in Europa Gräueltaten dieser Art wären Taten aus der Geschichte. Leider ist dies nicht der Fall. Wladimir Putin hat uns die schönen Träume zerstört und uns stattdessen unsre Träume mit Alpträumen erstetzt.
Auf diese Weise ist Wladimir Putin unglücklicherweise gar nicht besser als Adolf Hitler.
Putin hat schon bisher so viel Schlechtes getan, so viele Leute ums Leben umsonst gebracht, daß er sich auf gar keine Rehabilitation freuen kann. Was immer von hier aus geschieht, ist Putin nicht mehr würdig wieder in die internationale Gemeinschaft gebracht zu werden.

Doch heute wissen wieder 60% der Brasilianer nicht, ob sie täglich ausreichend zu Essen haben und 20 Millionen Brasilianer hungern, doppelt so viele wie noch 2018.
Die Covid-19-Epidemie hat die Lage im Land verschärft, 600.000 Menschen starben, die Pandemie ruinierte die Wirtschaft. Innerhalb von zwei Jahren verdoppelten sich die Preise für Reis, Öl und Bohnen in den Supermärkten im Norden von São Paulo. Fleisch ist heute Luxus. Viele kaufen jetzt Hühnerfüße, eigentlich Futter für die Hunde. Angesichts der katastrophalen Ernährungslage hat Präsident Jair Bolsonaro nach und nach von seiner liberalen Agenda Abstand genommen und die Sozialleistungen verbessert, doch die Zahl der Armen steigt dramatisch. Der Hunger ist heute das Thema der brasilianischen Politik und wird es wohl bleiben, bis zur nächsten Präsidentschaftswahl im Oktober 2022.

Außerdem kocht er gern irische Gerichte. Auf den Tisch kommen Eintöpfe, Muscheln aus einheimischen Fjorden und dunkles Sodabrot.
Connemara liegt in der Grafschaft Galway am westlichsten Zipfel Irlands. Zentrum ist die Studentenstadt Galway mit ihrer lebendigen Kulturszene. Auf dem Land leben viele Menschen von der Zucht der beliebten Connemara-Ponys. Die genügsamen Pferde leben seit Jahrhunderten in torfigen Sümpfen und trotzen dem rauen Wetter Westirlands. Der Hufschmied Bryan O'Halloran hat sich auf die Reitpferde spezialisiert. Jetzt im Herbst präpariert er die Pferdehufe für den langen Winter. Jedes Eisen ist handgefertigt, denn die Tiere haben individuelle Bedürfnisse. Bryans älterer Bruder John bewirtschaftet mit seiner Frau Marcella einen Bauernhof mit Pferden, Kühen, Schafen und Hühnern. John beteiligt sich an einem lokalen Tauschnetzwerk. Überschüssige Lebensmittel von den Bauernhöfen werden untereinander getauscht. Die Gerichte der Region sind bodenständig. Auf den Tisch kommt der Fischeintopf Chowder mit Muscheln aus dem nahe gelegenen Killary-Fjord oder ein Eintopf mit Lammfleisch. Dazu gibt es selbst gebackenes Sodabrot mit Roggenmehl und Buttermilch.

Die Empörung in Russland über die Äußerungen des amerikanischen Präsident Joe Biden über Wladimir Putins Verbleib an der Macht ist groß. Biden mache mit „erschreckender Regelmäßigkeit“ Äußerungen und Fehler, die schlimmer seien als Verbrechen, sagte der prominente russische Außenpolitiker Konstantin Kossatschow. Er reagierte damit auf Worte Bidens, wonach Putin wegen des Krieges in der Ukraine nicht im Amt bleiben könne. Es habe Zeiten gegeben, da habe das Wort eines US-Präsidenten Gewicht gehabt, das sei nun vorbei, sagte der Vorsitzende des Auswärtigen Ausschusses im russischen Föderationsrat.
Dazu meldete sich am Sonntag der amerikanische Außenminister Antony Blinken aus Jerusalem zu Wort. Amerika strebe keinen Machtwechsel in Russland an, sagte Blinken während eines Besuches in Israel. „Wie Sie wissen, und wie Sie uns wiederholt sagen hören, haben wir keine Strategie für einen Regimewechsel in Russland oder sonstwo“, sagte Blinken vor Reportern in Jerusalem.
Der Kreml hatte am Samstagabend betont, dass nicht die Amerikaner über die Führung in Russland entschieden. „Das entscheidet nicht Biden, der Präsident Russlands wird vom russischen Volk gewählt“, sagte Kremlsprecher Dmitri Peskow nach der Rede Bidens in Polen. Openly acknowledged or not, regime change in Moscow – meaning the overthrow of Vladimir Putin – must be the western democracies’ ultimate objective as they help to thwart his conquest of Ukraine. Pursuing imperial fantasies, a tsar-like Putin has gone too far this time. Now he’s got to go. Urgently required: a new Russian revolution to topple the tyrant, led from within and assisted from without.
The idea of Putin remaining in power, even if a Ukraine settlement is eventually patched together, is both impractical and obscene. By his inhuman actions, Russia’s dictator has placed himself beyond the pale. He’s a menace to universal order, an affront to common decency. He simply cannot be trusted.
Despite resounding international condemnation, the damaging impact of western sanctions on Russia’s people, the resulting threat to global food and energy supplies, and daily evidence that his ill-led armed forces are in deep trouble, Putin appears determined to fight on, even to escalate. Last week’s disappointing Nato summit will have done little to dissuade him.

Joe Biden condemned Vladimir Putin as a “butcher” who could no longer stay in power in a historic speech in Poland as Russian missiles rained down on Ukraine’s most pro-western city, just 40 miles from the Polish border.
With explosions erupting across neighbouring Lviv, in a clear act of defiance from the Kremlin, Biden told an audience in Warsaw that the west must steel itself “for a long fight ahead”.
In what seemed to be a dramatic shift in US policy to back regime change in Moscow, Biden also appeared to urge those around the Russian president to oust him from the Kremlin. “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” Biden said in his most belligerent speech since the war began a month ago.
US officials later said that Biden had been talking about the need for Putin to lose power over Ukrainian territory and in the wider region.

Joe Biden condemned Vladimir Putin as a “butcher” who could no longer stay in power in a historic speech in Poland as Russian missiles rained down on Ukraine’s most pro-western city, just 40 miles from the Polish border.
With explosions erupting across neighbouring Lviv, in a clear act of defiance from the Kremlin, Biden told an audience in Warsaw that the west must steel itself “for a long fight ahead”.
In what seemed to be a dramatic shift in US policy to back regime change in Moscow, Biden also appeared to urge those around the Russian president to oust him from the Kremlin. “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” Biden said in his most belligerent speech since the war began a month ago.
US officials later said that Biden had been talking about the need for Putin to lose power over Ukrainian territory and in the wider region.

BBC: President Joe Biden hailed American military deployments to Europe as part of a struggle for democracy against autocracy during a visit to US troops in Poland.
His remarks come as the US and others have reinforced Nato's eastern flank amid the war in Ukraine.
The stop at an airbase in Rzeszow, near the Ukrainian border, was part of Mr Biden's trip to Europe to rally allies.
However, back home Mr Biden faces scepticism over his Ukraine response.
In his remarks to the troops on Friday, the president sought to portray their deployments as part of a wider "fight between democracies and oligarchs".
"You are the finest fighting force in the history of the world," he said. "What you're doing is consequential."

We are told that Johnson ‘Got Brexit Done’ and yet it is far from done and has so far caused a 15% drop in exports to the EU and an overall fall of 4% of GDP according to the Office for Budget Responibility (OBR).
We are told about the 'fastest booster rollout' whilst the having the highest number of Covid deaths in Europe, which is never mentioned.
At a time when personalities and slick catchphrases such as 'Take Back Control' persuade voters, we have a parliament which has no power. The prime minister is in total command of his party which, thanks to ‘First Past the Post’ has a huge majority. Without any effective opposition from withing his own party or from the official opposition the prime minister can act as a dictator. Parliament has become powerless and useless.
Proportional representation would help to resolve many of the problems by ensuring that all voters were fairly represented in parliament. Above al,l it is time for our antiquated system of government to be modernised by automating much of the decision-making using super computers with far more power and intelligence than any politicians.

Mar 25, 2022 • When Francis Fukuyama wrote the book The End of History and the Last Man after the Soviet Union was dissolved 30 years ago, he argued that the West’s version of liberal democracy had triumphed over all other ideologies.
Since then, an increasing number of countries are becoming more authoritarian or illiberal democracies.
Fukuyama tells host Steve Clemons that the Ukraine war is a turning point for Western-style democracy, and institutions such as NATO are getting a boost in popularity. People will eventually turn their backs on authoritarian, populist and nationalist ideologies and leaders, in his estimation, and relearn how to tolerate differences.
Since then, an increasing number of countries are becoming more authoritarian or illiberal democracies.

“To say I have concerns about the future is a huge understatement. Waking up every day with the knowledge that you are an unwilling part of this nightmare is devastating.
“I have been building my business for decades, and now I am watching it fall apart. I have people depending on me – not just my family, but my employees, who will lose their source of income, their health insurance, their livelihood. One of my biggest concerns is their welfare. But of course, compared with the tragedy that’s happening in Ukraine, all business concerns seem insignificant.
