Manhunt Under Way after Ukrainian-born Tycoon Injured by Monaco Bomb

THE GUARDIAN: Normally safe principality left reeling from apartment blast that also injured Vadym Iermolaiev’s wife and child

An international search is under way for a suspected bomber after a Ukrainian tycoon and his family were injured in an explosion in Monaco in an unprecedented attack that has shaken the normally ultra-safe principality.

Stéphane Thibault, Monaco’s public prosecutor, told reporters that a lone man entered an apartment block on Monday evening, left a package in the lobby and walked away. Moments later, as three occupants of a ground-floor flat approached the entrance, the package exploded, he said.

French media identified the three as Vadym Iermolaiev, his wife and their 13-year-old child. Iermolaiev and his wife had been taken to hospital with serious injuries, while their child was also wounded, French authorities said.

Without naming them, Thibault said the woman remained in a life-threatening condition, the man was no longer in a critical condition and the child’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. » | Pjotr Sauer | Tuesday, June 30, 2026

Historisches Urteil: Oberstes US-Gericht stärkt Trumps Macht deutlich

— © Mark Alexander

‘Pathological Liar’ & ‘Authoritarian’: Bernie Torches Trump in Fiery Texas Speech…

Jun 28, 2026 | Sen. Bernie Sanders delivered a blistering attack on Donald Trump during a Democratic event in Texas, branding the former president a "pathological liar" and an "authoritarian." In a fiery speech, Sanders accused Trump of undermining democratic institutions and warned voters about the future of American democracy if he returns to power.

The sharp criticism drew loud reactions from the crowd and quickly sparked debate online, with supporters and critics clashing over Sanders' explosive remarks. Watch the full speech and see the moment Bernie unloaded on Trump in one of his most forceful attacks yet.

Bernie Sanders is the man Americans need to lead them. He is a thoroughly decent man.

As for Trump, stop complaining about him! Do something about him! Kick the MFer out of office and incarcerate him! The man is rotting from the head down anyway; so, let him rot in prison! — © Mark Alexander

Justices Expand Trump’s Power to Fire Officials

THE NEW YORK TIMES: In twin rulings, the Supreme Court affirmed the Fed’s independence and said its leaders could not be fired at will, but said President Trump could fire other independent regulators for any reason.

In a major expansion of presidential authority, the Supreme Court cleared the way on Monday for President Trump to fire independent government regulators despite federal laws meant to protect their jobs. But the justices carved out an exception for the Federal Reserve, preventing the president from immediately removing one governor, Lisa D. Cook, from the powerful central bank.

The court’s 6-to-3 ruling to broadly allow the firings, with the three liberal justices dissenting, represented a significant shift in power from Congress to the president, and could drastically change the federal government’s structure by giving the president more control over independent agencies.

The case tested whether Mr. Trump could oust Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, a Democratic member of the Federal Trade Commission, simply because she did not align with his agenda, despite a law that says the president can remove commissioners only for “inefficiency, neglect of duty or malfeasance in office.”

But the decision has implications for more than two dozen agencies — including those charged with protecting consumers, workers, the environment and nuclear safety — that have traditionally been insulated from presidential control.

“Donald Trump is ‘un-American’.” Should we be surprised? His mother was Scottish; and his father had his roots in Germany. Because of family wealth, Trump has never had to have anything much to do with average Americans. So why should we be surprised by the fact that Trump is atypical of Americans in his thinking? Starmer Is Out: Can Burnham Bring New Hope to Britain? | Peter Oborne | MEE Opinion

Jun 24, 2026 | Peter Oborne, associate editor at Middle East Eye, argues that after years of failed policies at home and abroad, the UK needs a different kind of prime minister.

Oborne says that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer attempted to emulate former Prime Minister Tony Blair by turning against the Labour left and cultivating relationships with billionaires.

He argues that Andy Burnham could succeed by embracing a different style of politics. “So long as he remembers to govern in the interests of ordinary people and not billionaires; to keep his integrity, resist blandishments and be himself, Burnham stands a chance of succeeding when so many have failed,” Oborne says.

Although I was never one of Starmer’s greatest fans, this synopsis should not be construed as necessarily reflecting my own views. These views are Peter Oborne’s and should therefore be received as such. As for Andy Burnham, I know far too little about him yet to have any strong views on him or his abilities. — © Mark Alexander

Israel's Dream of Ruling the Region Is Over, Its Decline Has Begun | Mustafa Barghouti | UNAPOLOGETIC

Jun 27, 2026 | "Now Netanyahu has failed. Iran was not broken. Arab countries now realise that relying on Israel is a death sentence."

In this episode of UNAPOLOGETIC, we sat down in studio with Mustafa Barghouti, Palestinian physician, leader of the Palestinian National Initiative and co-founder of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society. Barghouti argues that Israel's two strategic goals, imperial domination of the Middle East and normalisation with Arab states, have both collapsed, and that this marks the beginning of its decline.

Across the conversation he sets out the scale of the atrocity in Gaza, the slow strangulation of life in the West Bank, and the transformation of Israeli society towards what he describes as fascism. He explains why the regional war with Iran ended in strategic failure for Netanyahu, why Oslo and the 2005 Gaza disengagement were traps rather than concessions, and why he refuses to accept any framing that places oppressor and oppressed on equal footing.

Barghouti also turns to the question of survival and resistance, from the 90 midwives employed in the first weeks of the war to the clinics rebuilt multiple times under bombardment and makes the case that Palestine has become the global measure of commitment to justice. Despite everything, he ends on a note of defiance and hope.

UNAPOLOGETIC is hosted by Ashfaaq Carim.

Astra Taylor on AI Data Center Resistance & Fighting "Billionaire Big Tech Agenda"

May 13, 2026 | As the "supercharged" construction of new data centers to power artificial intelligence blankets the country, a growing resistance movement to these massive corporate projects amid a lack of public oversight is not far behind. As organizer Astra Taylor explains, local fights across the country are leveraging this "industry chokepoint" to force important questions, from the distribution of land, water and energy resources to democratic governance over an industry currently driven by a "billionaire Big Tech agenda." While AI boosters frame the technology as inevitable, Taylor says, "I think that many people are more skeptical than that. … That's part of what it means to have democratic governance over AI, to say, 'No, we don't need this technology to take over every facet of our existence.'"

TK & Carlos (Tarlos) | Hold My Hand

June 13, 2021

What could be more beautiful than seeing two men walking down the road holding hands? I remember when I first went to work in Saudi Arabia, I saw this for the very first time. Naturally, at the start I was shocked; I had never seen anything like that before. But I soon came to realise and understand the beauty of it.

In Saudi culture, it is not supposed to be sexual—though, on the quiet, it can be, of course—but a bond between Muslim brothers. Each case is different, of course, I am sure of that. Western men, by contrast, are far too emotionally inhibited and uptight for this. That is such a pity. Especially in a western world which is so divided and split.

For queers, of course, it would be a significant move forward and a step in the right direction, to see men holding hands walking down the street. Society has a long way to go before hang-ups are ironed out. — © Mark Alexander

Gadi Eisenkot weiß, was Krieg bedeutet.

Hungary Holds First Post-Orban Budapest Pride March

DW: Tens of thousands packed Budapest's streets despite scorching heat. Former right-wing leader Viktor Orban tried to ban the march last year as part of a wider LGBTQ+ crackdown.

Tens of thousands braved the scorching temperatures to celebrate the Budapest Pride parade on Saturday, the first since the election defeat of Viktor Orban, who tried to ban the event last year.

"I think the situation is getting better and better, mainly because of the change in government," 18-year-old Petra Toth, who was attending her first Pride with her girlfriend, told AFP.

In April, pro-EU conservative Prime Minister Peter Magyar and his Tisza party won a landslide victory, ending Orban's 16 years in power.

Orban's government was widely regarded as having some of the European Union's most restrictive LGBTQ+ policies. » | Emmy Sasipornkarn with AFP, AP, Reuters | Saturday, June 27, 2026
