He Blew the Whistle on the Catholic Church in 1985. Why Didn’t We Listen?
THE NEW YORK TIMES: As an investigative reporter, Jason Berry
exposed the church’s systematic cover-up of sexual
abuse. Somehow, it wasn’t enough
Nearly 20 years ago, an investigation by The Boston Globe into sexual abuse by Roman Catholic priests ignited a firestorm of scandal that has traveled around the world. For many Americans, these shocking revelations — especially of the related cover-ups by the church — came out of nowhere, almost like a bolt of lightning. But the sobering reality is that this bolt of lightning had been striking for at least 15 years. So much for organised religion! This is disgusting! Truly disgusting! It begs many questions: Why is there so much perversion in the Roman Catholic Church? Why does the RCC attract so many perverts? Who wants or needs to be preached to by these perverts on issues of morality anyway? And where do they get the audacity from to lecture people on being gay when they engage in truly disgusting sexual abuse like this?
We’ve all known about the goings on in the Roman Catholic Church (and other churches, too), but when you watch a video such as this one, it is a sad reminder that much of religion is a sick joke! This is far removed from the teachings of Jesus Christ. – @ Mark

My posting has been slow today, because I have been getting help from Adobe.
Yesterday, I decided to subscribe to Adobe Stock to be able to offer you an extended choice of great photos and images. I hope you will enjoy them. It’s an archive of great photos and images, actually. I hope you will be pleased: I hope they will bring you much pleasure and delight.
It was a little complicated in the beginning, because the first image I downloaded had a watermark emblazoned right across it. I wanted the download to be without a watermark. Therefore, I had to get in contact with Adobe customer support to sort out the problem. It turns out that I had downloaded the image incorrectly. It has now been sorted: the watermark is gone. There were one or two other questions about my allowance of images per month, etc, as well. This is why I am behindhand with my posting today; I trust that you will understand.
I hope you enjoy the new experience.

NastassjaCanCook: Borscht/Borsch | My Family Recipe: The Best Borsch You Have Ever Tried!
Jun 27, 2019 • Borscht, or Borsch, is a staple dish in Russia, Ukraine and some Eastern European countries. Each and every family would have its own secret recipe; so, today, I am sharing my family recipe.
For the beef stock, you will need: some bones. I am using beef bone marrow bones. I am also using some gelatin and meat: ox tails, and some lean meat – top sirloin.
Ingedients:
1 onion
1 carrot
1 parsnip
1 celery stalk
Some parsley Dry spices like such as bay leaves, coriander seeds and black peppercorns
Salt and pepper to taste
one dry chilli pepper
3 medium size beets (with beet greens)
4 medium size potatoes
2 medium size carrots
1 parsnip
2 cloves of garlic
1 head of green cabbage
celery greens
1 bunch of parsley
1 bunch of dill
2 tbsp white vinegar
To serve you will need:
2 cloves of garlic
Fresh dill
Sour cream
Method:
In a large stock pot add all your meat and vegetables for the stock (you don't need to peel the vegetables, since they are going to be discarded after the stock is done).
Add spices.
Add cold water to cover stock size ¾ of a way up and boil.
Before the boiling process has started, collect and discard the foam that appears on the top.
Leave to simmer for about an hour.
Peel beets.
After one hour of simmering time, take out the bone marrow bones – you can enjoy them with just a sprinkle of salt or as a spread it on toast.
Add beets to simmering stock and cook until beets are fork tender.(about 30-35 minutes).
Take out the meat and beets. Set aside to cool. Strain beef stock and return to pot. Set on slow simmer. Add grated carrots and grated parsnip, cook for 10 minutes. Add chopped beet greens and chopped beet stalks. Add cubed potatoes and cook for 10 minutes. Add chopped cabbage and cubed meat. Cook until cabbage is just al dente. Grate beets, add chopped garlic and vinegar. Add to soup along with fresh herbs, Turn off the heat and close the lid. Let sit for 10 minutes. Enjoy Borsch(t) with chopped garlic, fresh dill and sour cream.
Serve with Russian black bread.

NEUE ZÜRCHER ZEITUNG: Die Taliban regieren fast ganz Afghanistan.
August 2021

THE GUARDIAN: Running street battle ends in gunfight after ‘Summer of love’ protest in a parking lot of a former Kmart store
A rightwing protest in Portland on Sunday has culminated in a gunfight, when antifascist demonstrators returned fire at a man who shot at them with a handgun in a downtown street.
The firefight took place in the heart of downtown Portland, soon after 6pm. As antifascists followed a man at a distance who they were trying to eject from the area, he took cover behind an electrical substation box, produced a handgun and opened fire. He fired at least two shots before an antifascist returned fire with their own handgun. At least seven shots were fired.
Portland police bureau confirmed that a man had been arrested over the shooting but did not have any information on any injuries.
The incident came after a day of protest descended into running clashes involving hundreds of protesters and counter protesters. » | Jason Wilson in Portland, Oregon | Monday, August 23, 2021

ISIS Poses ‘Acute’ Threat to U.S. Evacuation Efforts in Kabul, Sullivan Says
THE NEW YORK TIMES: President Biden’s national security adviser warned of mounting but unspecified terrorist risks to the U.S. mission to evacuate thousands of Americans and Afghan allies.

WASHINGTON — President Biden’s national security adviser warned on Sunday that the threat of a terrorist attack by the Islamic State posed a serious danger to the administration’s evacuation of thousands of Americans and Afghan allies from the international airport in Kabul.
“The threat is real. It is acute. It is persistent. And it is something that we are focused on with every tool in our arsenal,” Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
His comments were the most urgent so far regarding a range of steadily increasing threats that intelligence and military officials have privately briefed Mr. Biden and his top aides on in recent days, officials said.
Neither Mr. Sullivan nor other senior American military or intelligence officials provided details about the threats or their specificity. Current and former officials say, however, that they range from a missile attack against a transport plane taking off or landing at Hamid Karzai International Airport to a bomb-laden truck or suicide bombers infiltrating the crowd outside the airport. » | Eric Schmitt | Sunday, August 22, 2021

Tony Blair Criticizes US Exit from Afghanistan
I was no particular fan of Tony Blair, but I agree wholeheartedly with what he says in this short video clip. The man is spot on in his assessment. I realize that some people have disliked what I had to say on current British and American politics, but I believe that what I have said is in accord with what Tony Blair has just said. I, too, like Joe Biden. I think he is an honourable man and a man with his heart in the right place. I feel sure that his intentions are good; and it must be said that he has already, in his short time in office, done some very good things for America. But I really think that he should not have taken the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan at this time, and certainly not as abruptly as this. This decision is going to haunt America and it will cause a lot of problems for Europe and the rest of the world. It will ultimately cause a lot of problems for America itself, too. That is what I believe. – © Mark

Hashtag Monaco: “Influencers Add the Human Touch to Luxury”
MONACO LIFE: They document their lives and passions online, and with that comes a new way to showcase Monaco. Olga Lavric and Milana Chigridow are digital influencers, giving their hundreds of thousands of followers a unique glimpse of what life looks like in the fabled Principality.
It’s the perfect destination to post about. Famous architectural masterpieces, luxury superyachts in the harbour, and all those fast cars. Of course, we’re talking about Monaco.
The Principality is a favourite when it comes to social media. On Instagram alone, there’s more than seven million posts with the hashtag “monaco”. But if on the one side there are occasional vacation posts by the hoards of visitors each year, on the other there’s a community of influencers who work all year around to share all-things-Monaco.
Five years ago, Olga Lavric found herself with no job and a suggestion from her husband: “You are following a lot of fashion/beauty bloggers. Why not start your personal blog?”. At first, she was indecisive, not knowing how her work situation would evolve, but then she knew she had to take the risk. “In the end I said: ‘Why not? Better to try than to regret later’. Now I’m more than happy to do what I really love. For me this is a dream that came true,” Olga tells Monaco Life.
Olga’s job goes from answering emails to organising photo shoots, preparing outfits, editing photos and videos or attending events. Apart from that, she drinks her coffee in the morning and spends time with her family and friends, just like everyone else. “I have a normal life as everyone else does, with little exceptions,” she explains. » | Rita Meireles | Tuesday, August 10, 2021
