EDL Protesters Blame Islam for Woolwich Attack

THE GUARDIAN: More than 500 far-right supporters gather outside Downing Street as anti-fascist groups hold counter-demonstration nearby

For a movement that was on the verge of implosion less than a month ago, the English Defence League has staged a major show of force in central London, signalling that the death of Drummer Lee Rigby has breathed new life into the far-right protest group.

More than 500 supporters – including football hooligans, veteran fascists and others – assembled under tight police security at the entrance to Downing Street, where they listened to their leaders blame Islam for the killing in Woolwich last week.

A counter-demonstration of several hundred people, organised by anti-fascist groups, was kept apart from the EDL protest, which chanted "scum, scum, scum" as their leader, Tommy Robinson, railed against the left and Muslims. Flags of St George fluttered and placards with messages such as "wool which 2013: no turning back" were held aloft.

Amongst those at the EDL gathering was Ben Roberts, a former soldier waving a flag of St George and wearing service medals from Iraq and Afganistan.

"I am here to show that we stand together against the killers of Lee Rigby. It seems that there is one law today for Muslims and one for everyone else," he said, adding that other ex-service personnel were also present. "I've had it with parties like Labour and the Conservatives," said Roberts, who identified himself as a Ukip voter.

While many protesters were young men with close-cropped hair wearing casual sports gear or England shirts, there were a small number of women and children and a handful of Sikhs, whose presence at other EDL gatherings has been condemned by leaders of their community. » | Ben Quinn | Monday, May 27, 2013

UK Archbishop Lauds British Muslims' Response to Terrorism

PRESS TV: The archbishop of Canterbury has lauded British Muslim bodies for their response to the recent murder of a soldier in a London street by two assailants.

Justin Welby referred to various religious communities in the UK, saying that they are in a good position of co-operation and mutual support.

"We have all been appalled by the brutal murder of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich," he said during a joint appearance in Leicester with Sheikh Ibrahim Mogra, the assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain.

The archbishop praised the way in which religious groups had reacted to the incident.

"I want to recognise the response of churches, mosques and other faith and civil society groups, as well as those of brave individuals who have done so much to bring our communities together at this time," he said.

"The strong response of the Muslim Council of Britain and many other organisations has rightly emphasised that these acts have no place in Islam." » | MOL/HE | Monday, May 27, 2013

Young Woman Spat At as Charity Reports Rising Anti-Muslim Incidents after Woolwich Murder

WALES ONLINE: A charity says it is looking at claims from a woman she was spat at in the Cardiff area as young Muslims speak of their fears of a backlash after the death of soldier Lee Rigby.

Young Muslims in Wales say they fear a backlash after the barbaric killing of Drummer Lee Rigby in London.

Charity Faith Matters said it is looking at claims a young woman was spat at in an incident in the Cardiff area and said it was dealing with a significant rise in the number of anti-Muslim incidents in Britain as a result of the attack in Woolwich.

Meanwhile, hateful messages have been posted on social media websites. The Welsh Defence League’s Facebook page boasted a picture of the aftermath of the shocking murder with the message: “Still believe Islam is the religion of peace? How many more have to die to disprove the lie?”

It comes after bacon was left outside a Cardiff mosque the day after Drummer Rigby was hacked to death.

Other incidents across the UK have seen a mosque in Kent attacked, while in Essex a man walked into a temple brandishing a knife and a burning bottle was hurled at an Islamic centre in Bletchley.

Young Muslims in Wales have now told how they fear a rising tide of hostility will engulf them following 25-year-old Drumer [sic] Rigby’s murder. » | Darren Devine, James McCarthy | Sunday, May 26, 2013

Obama Officials Are 'Criminalising Journalism', Says Republican Senator

THE INDEPENDENT: Administration’s efforts to trace leaks called ‘heavy-handed’ after private emails seized

The Obama administration has been accused of criminalising the press, as US lawmakers called for an independent investigator to look into the way the Justice Department conducts cases involving reporters.

President Barack Obama is facing widespread criticism for the aggressive way in which his government investigates leaks, after it emerged that officials had secretly seized phone records from the Associated Press and monitored personal emails of the Fox News reporter James Rosen.

Mr Obama last week directed his Attorney General, Eric Holder, to review the Justice Department’s procedures. Mr Holder is due to report back in July – but his position as the head of the department at the centre of the controversy has led lawmakers to question whether he is the right person to lead the review.

“This would be a good time for a special counsel or independent counsel… This is clearly an overreach,” the Republican Senator Lindsey Graham told Fox News. Referring to a case in which the Justice Department obtained the Fox reporter’s private emails, he added: “We’re beginning to criminalise journalism, and I think that should worry us all.” » | Nikhil Kumar | New York | Sunday, May 26, 2013

Terror in Woolwich: Home Secretary Theresa May Threatens Online Crackdown for Extremists Who Don’t Advocate Violence

THE INDEPENDENT: Coalition clashes over Home Secretary's plans to revive controversial ‘snooper’s charter’

Radical Islamist groups which whip up hatred but do not advocate violence could be outlawed in the UK for the first time, under an attempt to curb the spread of hardline ideology being considered by the Government following the Woolwich murder.

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, warned that there were thousands of people judged to be at risk of being radicalised as she set out moves to deprive hardliners of platforms for their views. They include plans to ban more organisations accused of fomenting division and to tighten the rules on their access to the internet, as well as the revival of plans for a "snooper's charter".

But the moves threaten to provoke a freedom-of-speech row as organisations which stop short of advocating terrorism could be banned under the proposals, which will be considered by a Whitehall task force headed by David Cameron.

At the moment, the Home Secretary has the legal power to proscribe an organisation linked to terrorism, such as al-Muhajiroun, which was outlawed in Britain in 2010.

But she has no authority to act against organisations suspected of "inciting hatred and division" and ministers will consider introducing a lower threshold enabling her to act, Whitehall sources said. » | Nigel Morris | Monday, May 27, 2013

Grimsby Mosque Hit by Suspected Arson Attack

THE GUARDIAN: Police say two arrested after fire at Grimsby Islamic centre, while mosque chairman reports being attacked by petrol bombs

A mosque chairman has described how he was inside an Islamic cultural centre with a young family when it was hit by a suspected arson attack.

The Grimsby Islamic Cultural Centre was allegedly targeted by petrol bombs on Sunday night, despite an increased police presence in the area following another attack on the complex three days ago.

Humberside police said a fire was started at the centre on Weelsby Road shortly before 10pm. No one was injured. Two people were arrested by officers patrolling in the area.

Woolwich Attack: Calls for Anjem Choudary to Be Placed under a New Terror Control Order

THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: Calls were growing last night for Anjem Choudary, the radical Islamist accused of brainwashing one of the Woolwich murder suspects, to be placed under a new terror control order.

It is estimated that one in five terrorists convicted in Britain over the past decade were either members of or linked to al-Muhajiroun, the extremist group founded by Choudary and the exiled preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed.

Choudary, 46, and a lawyer by training, has never been convicted of any offence, much to the frustration of British authorities.

But the revelation last week that al-Muhajiroun had played a large part in radicalising Michael Adebolajo, 28, who is accused of murdering a soldier outside Woolwich Barracks, has renewed pressure on the Home Office to find a way of dealing with Choudary. » | Robert Mendick, and Robert Watts | Sunday, May 26, 2013

Poll Reveals Rising Fears of Clashes in Wake of Woolwich Killing

THE GUARDIAN: YouGov poll shows rise in proportion of people who believe British Muslims pose a threat to democracy

Nearly two-thirds of people believe there will be a 'clash of civilisations' between British Muslims and white Britons in the wake of the murder of a British soldier in Woolwich, a new poll shows.

The number of those who believe such a clash is inevitable has increased by 9% from last year.

There has also been a small increase in the proportion of people who believe British Muslims pose a serious threat to democracy, up to 34% on Thursday and Friday from 30% in November 2012, according to the YouGov survey of 1,839 adults.

The poll will fuel concern of an explosion of race hate, with one interfaith charity reporting a huge increase in anti-Muslim incidents since the murder of soldier Lee Rigby in south-east London on Wednesday.

Faith Matters, which runs a helpline, said they had received 162 calls since the attack, up from a daily average of six.

A number of people have also been charged by police after allegedly offensive messages were posted on social media websites. These include a 22-year-old man from Lincoln, a 28-year-old man from London, a 23-year-old woman from Southsea, and a 19-year-old man from Woking.

Woolwich and Britain’s Approaching Show-down

NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE – THE DAVID PRYCE-JONES BLOG: On Wednesday, two young Muslims butchered a serving British soldier in the London district of Woolwich in the early afternoon in front of bystanders. Shouts of “Allahu Akhbar” were heard. One of the murderers was caught on film, holding a weapon, his hands dripping blood. He said to the camera, “We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you.” In the light of what he had just done, his calmness could only signify ideological certainty that he had committed a good deed and was about to publicize it. Turkey to Restrict Sale and Advertising of Alcohol

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Turkey is to restrict the sale and advertising of alcohol, prompting outcry from citizens concerned about the creeping Islamisation of the country.

Members of Turkey's Islamist-leaning government, led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have approved legislation, which is awaiting presidential approval, which will see the sale of alcohol in shops prohibited from 10pm to 6am.

Although similar restrictions are in place in some European countries, including Britain, the legislation also bans the advertising of alcohol. Broadcasters will even need to blur out bottles and glasses of alcohol consumed by TV characters.

Alcoholic beverage companies will also not be allowed to sponsor events where their drinks can be sold, such as concerts or football matches. New liquor licenses will not be issued to establishments within 330 feet (100 metres) of a school or religious institution.

Nonsense Aplenty from Clegg: Woolwich Attack: Nick Clegg Says Murder of Drummer Lee Rigby 'Flies in the Face of the Peace and Love that Islam Teaches'

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: The murder of a serving soldier by suspected Islamist terrorists in London “flies in the face of the peace and love that Islam teaches”, Nick Clegg said today.

The Deputy Prime Minister paid tribute for Muslim groups for responding to the brutal murder of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich on Wednesday with a call for “unity and calm”.

Mr Clegg said: “Over the last few days London has shown itself at its best: an unbreakable city once again refusing to bow to hatred and violence. Of all the groups and faiths represented here today, I would like to pay special tribute to London's Muslim community.

“An unspeakable act has been conducted in their name. This Beheading Should Be a Seminal Moment in Our Tolerance of Islam

The gruesome beheading of one of our soldiers in a London street should be the final wake-up call for those who have been too slow to awaken from their slumbers. It should be plain for everyone to see by now that we are dealing with a force of darkness.

In my book, The Dawning of a New Dark Age, I warned in strong words that something would have to be done to keep Westerners safe from the danger that is Islam. Many might have thought that my words were alarmist. Today’s beheading in Woolwich, London proves them wrong. I have been vindicated.

It is difficult for Westerners who have to toil long and hard to put food on the table for their family to comprehend that there is a ‘culture’ out there which is hell bent on destroying the West, destroying all we stand for. But this happens to be the case. Alas, not all people in this world share our benign values.

I realise full well that the West has a history of its own which showed we could commit heinous crimes in the name of religion. But that was centuries ago. That was then; this is now. We have grown up; they have not. We have become enlightened; they still live in darkness. They are benighted.

Our politicians and leaders of all kinds have been unwilling, reluctant in the extreme, to come to terms with the fact that in Islam we are dealing with such a force of darkness: extreme darkness, in fact.

Islam is a religion which is aggressive and conquering. It brainwashes its adherents. It believes that all the world belongs to Allah and his final messenger; and that it is theirs for the taking. These people will never understand the concept of ‘living and letting live.’ They will never co-exist with Westerners. It is their stated aim to take over the West. It is their stated aim to make the whole world submit to Allah, who they believe to be the one true god.

Muslims divide the world into two: The ‘House of Islam’ (Dar ul Islam) and the ‘House of War’ (Dar ul Harb). We inhabit the ‘House of War.’ Therefore, we have to be conquered and brought into the ‘House of Islam.’ To them, until this happens, until we are conquered, they will be in a constant state of war with us. This tragic beheading today is but one dreadful manifestation of their way of thinking.

Our leaders, our politicians, our establishment will have you believe that there is a difference between Islam and ‘Islamism.’ They mislead you. ‘Islamism’ is a term made up by Westerners for Westerners, in order to lull them into a false sense of security, and to let our weak politicians off the hook. An ‘Islamist’ is a person who is intent on living according to the strict guidelines of Islam. He/she is a devout follower of their prophet. When Westerners refer to ‘moderate Muslims,' they refer to nominal Muslims, or people who are Muslims only in name, Muslims who do not take their religion very seriously. They are not devout. And in the eyes of devout Muslims, these 'moderate Muslims' have fallen by the wayside.

We are going to have to come to terms with this if we are ever to get a handle on the huge problem that we face with Islam. The sad fact is that because our leaders are so reluctant to come to terms with reality, innocent people are being placed in great danger in their own countries. This poor soldier today is a very sad case in point.

The MSM will not help you, because they are more concerned with being politically correct than they are with keeping you and me in safety. This is the sad reality of the Western world that we live in today.

It is high time that we had a reality check in the West. We need to stiffen our resolve to combat this threat to our safety, we need to stiffen our resolve to keep the West western. We have our values too; and barbarism is not one of them. We are better than that. We are civilised. Let us keep it that way. This is what I say: Whatever needs to be done to rid the West of this cancer, it has to be done. Time is not on our side. We have already been infiltrated. So what are we going to do about it?

Terrorist Slaying of British Soldier 'Betrayal of Islam': Cameron

THE GLOBE AND MAIL: A brutal killing on a busy London street has stunned the city and raised the prospect of terrorism, but British Prime Minister David Cameron vowed that Britons would not be cowed.

"Today our thoughts are with the victim and with his family - they are grieving for their loved one and we have lost a brave soldier,” Mr. Cameron said outside No. 10 Downing Street. "The people that did this were trying to divide us. They should know something like this will only bring us together and make us stronger."

“We will never give in to terror or terrorism in any of its forms,” Mr. Cameron said. “This was not just an attack on Britain and on the British way of life, it was also a betrayal of Islam and of the Muslim communities who give so much to our country. There is nothing in Islam that justifies this truly dreadful act.”

This is another whitewash job on Islam. This time by Cameron. He says that this brutal beheading is a "betrayal of Islam." Really, Mr. Cameron? How would you know? Since when have you become an expert on Islam? Have you read anything about Islam other than what the MSM have said or written? Have you read any of the Koran, or the Hadiths? Have you lived in an Islamic country and mixed with Muslims at the grassroots level? No, I thought not. May I therefore suggest, Mr. Cameron, that you say as little about the nature of Islam until such time that you have learnt something about it? It would be better for you. Scores of supporters of the English Defence League threw bottles at police and chanted anti-Muslim slogans in Woolwich hours after the murder of one man and the shooting of his two suspected assailants.

Horrific 'Beheading' of Man in London Feared to Be Terror Attack, as Suspects Reportedly Chanted 'Allahu Akbar'

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Two attackers believed shot by police in a brutal confrontation that left one man, belived to be a soldier, murdered on a London street in broad daylight.

Two men attacked a soldier on a London street in broad daylight Wednesday and beheaded him, authorities and witnesses said.

The pair chanted “Allahu Akbar,” or “God is great,” during the sickening attack, according to witnesses.

ITV broadcast footage of a man with bloody hands and a machete addressing the camera and saying: "We swear by Almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you. The only reasons we have done this is because Muslims are dying every day. This British soldier is an eye for an eye a tooth for tooth.”

The two men were shot by cops and taken to a hospital by helicopter.

German Women Should 'Stay at Home and Have Three or Four Children'

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: German women should be encouraged to “stay at home and bring three or four children into the world”, the archbishop of Cologne has declared, rather than relying on immigration to solve the country's demographic crisis.

Cardinal Joachim Meisner compared Angela Merkel’s government’s family policies to Communist East Germany, when he said women who stayed at home were considered “demented”.

Germany, which has the lowest birth rate in Europe, is seeking more workers from crisis-hit countries including Spain to solve its shortage of skilled labour.

In unusually direct criticism of the German chancellor, Cardinal Meisner said: “Where are women really publicly encouraged to stay at home and bring three or four children into the world? This is what we should do, and not – as Mrs Merkel does now – simply present immigration as the solution to our demographic problem.”

In an interview with the Stuttgarter Zeitung the archbishop said Germany should not take away the “youth and future” of Spain and Portugal. » | Jeevan Vasagar, Berlin | Wednesday, May 22, 2013

My comment:

The cardinal has spoken an uncomfortable truth. This applies not only to Germany, but also to the West in general. Without more babies, the West will forever be dependent on immigrants, often Muslim immigrants, to fulfil our economic needs. This, in turn, will change the demographic make-up of our countries. It is already happening. We are already being outbred. In the UK, the baby name Muhammad (in all its various spellings) is now more common than Thomas, Richard, or Harry. This is a ticking time bomb. At last someone in the public sphere has spoken some common sense. – © Mark

Switzerland: Multicultural Paradise?

GATESTONE INSTITUTE: In March, the Swiss Federal Intelligence Service announced that a growing number of jihadists are being recruited in Switzerland. The number of robberies and assaults on Swiss trains has skyrocketed to such an extent that the Swiss government recently opted to equip transport police with firearms, and at least 1,400 women in Switzerland have been victims of forced marriages.

A controversial new report by the Swiss government claims that Muslim immigrants are so well integrated into Swiss society that no further federal policies or programs are needed to promote Muslim integration or to counter Islamic extremism.

Published by the Swiss Federal Council [Bundesrat] on May 8, the 102-page study -- known by the short title, "The Situation of Muslims in Switzerland" -- so completely downplays the countless problems associated with Muslim immigration in Switzerland that the report has been ridiculed as being worthy of a "case study in political correctness."

The report was first commissioned by proponents of multiculturalism within the Swiss Cabinet shortly after Swiss voters overwhelmingly approved a referendum in November 2009 to ban the construction of minarets, the tower-like structures on mosques that are often used to call Muslims to prayer.

The surprise outcome of the referendum, which passed with a clear majority of 57.5% of the voters, represented a turning point in the debate about Muslim immigration in Switzerland.

Among other matters, the referendum exposed the growing gap between Swiss multiculturalists and ordinary Swiss voters on the issue of Muslim immigration. The Swiss Federal Council had campaigned hard against the ban, arguing it would "endanger peace between religions" and "hinder integration." After the ban was approved, the government launched a multi-pronged effort to "educate" the Swiss populace through taxpayer-funded pro-Islam research.

The latest report estimates the Muslim population of Switzerland to be between 350,000 and 400,000, or around 5% of the total population of 8 million. The vast majority of Muslims in the country originate from the Balkans, Turkey and North Africa, and roughly one-third are Swiss citizens. Many of them are second- and third-generation immigrants firmly establishing themselves in Switzerland. » | Soeren Kern | Tuesday, May 21, 2013
