Theresa May bei Donald Trump: Pudel leben gefährlich

Survivors Remember Kristallnacht: Susan (Hilsenrath) Warsinger

In this interview with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Holocaust survivor Susan (Hilsenrath) Warsinger shares her memories of Kristallnacht, the November 1938 pogroms.

Germany: Kristallnacht

Kristallnacht – Night of the Broken Glass

Remembering Holocaust Survivors

The Holocaust is one of the greatest tragedies humans have forced upon their fellow man. We are resolved to never forget the horrors, but we also remember and celebrate the lives and accomplishments of those who survived.

We salute those like Elie Wiesel, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work as an author, lecturer and educator, as well as Simon Wiesenthal, who dedicated his life to pursuing perpetrators who escaped justice./>

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day we remember those who died as well as those who survived and made our world richer with their stories, knowledge and talent.

Why Are Holocaust Survivors Poor?

Research shows that 1/3 of the 100,000 holocaust survivors that live in the United States, live in poverty. 50,000 of those survivors live in the New York Metropolitan are, and 52% of them are poor and their average income is $18,000. Hanan Simhon, vice president of Holocaust Survivor Services at Self-help, stated, “It’s a shocking statistic… They tend to be very isolated, losing their families during the war and then either did not or could not have children. Many started working in menial jobs because they did not have the language kills. Today they are in their 80s and 90s and it is beyond difficult to make ends meet.”

Holocaust Survivors Fighting Poverty

An estimated one-third of Holocaust survivors in the United States live at or below the poverty line, according to The Blue Card, a non-profit organization.

Holocaust Documentary - History & Story of Holocaust Survivors

The Holocaust, was a genocide in which approximately six million Jews were killed by Adolf Hitler's Nazi régime and its collaborators. Some historians use a definition of the Holocaust that includes the additional five million non-Jewish victims of Nazi mass murders, bringing the total to approximately eleven million. Killings took place throughout Nazi Germany and German-occupied territories.

Brexit: Can the UK Get a Better Deal? - UpFront

With the UK set to withdraw from the European Union in early 2019, many are fearing the consequences for both Britain and Europe. Will the negotiations leave a lingering sense of resentment between them?

Guy Verhofstadt, the European Parliament's chief negotiator settling terms of the UK's withdrawal, says the EU is not "looking for revenge" and the terms won't be "punitive".

"What we are looking for is a fair agreement in which you can never have outside the European Union a better status than as member of the European Union," says Verhofstadt, who served as prime minister of Belgium.

Asked why 52 percent of Britons voted to leave, Verhofstadt blamed internal partisan politics and anti-immigrant sentiment.

Theresa May's Meeting with Donald Trump 'Could Sour Brexit Negotiations'

THE GUARDIAN: Fears that US trade talks could prompt EU calls for investigation, as French candidate says UK is becoming ‘vassal state’

Senior European politicians have suggested Theresa May’s meeting with Donald Trump on Friday could sour negotiations over Britain’s departure from the European Union.

Speaking before the prime minister and new president’s meeting in the Oval Office on Friday afternoon, the French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron claimed that Britain could become subservient to the US.

“Britain lived in an equilibrium with Europe,” Macron told France Culture radio. “But now it is becoming a vassal state, meaning it is becoming the junior partner of the United States.” » | Daniel Boffeey in Brussels | Friday, January 27, 2017

Rabbi Sacks on the Holocaust & Importance of Remembrance

Today is International Holocaust Memorial Day. The Holocaust did not define what it is to be a Jew. The Holocaust defined what it is to be human. Any assault on Jews becomes, very rapidly, an assault on our shared humanity. That is why we must continue to remember, not for the sake of the past, but for the sake of the future.

Trump Strategist Stephen Bannon Says Media Should ‘Keep Its Mouth Shut’

THE NEW YORK TIMES: WASHINGTON — Just days after President Trump spoke of a “running war’’ with the media, his chief White House strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, ratcheted up the attacks, arguing that news organizations had been “humiliated” by the election outcome and repeatedly describing the media as “the opposition party” of the current administration.

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while,” Mr. Bannon said in an interview on Wednesday.

“I want you to quote this,” Mr. Bannon added. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.” » | Michael M. Grynbaum | Thursday, January 26, 2017

Mikhail Gorbachev: 'It All Looks as if the World Is Preparing for War'

TIME: The world today is overwhelmed with problems. Policymakers seem to be confused and at a loss.

But no problem is more urgent today than the militarization of politics and the new arms race. Stopping and reversing this ruinous race must be our top priority.

The current situation is too dangerous.

More troops, tanks and armored personnel carriers are being brought to Europe. NATO and Russian forces and weapons that used to be deployed at a distance are now placed closer to each other, as if to shoot point-blank.

While state budgets are struggling to fund people’s essential social needs, military spending is growing. Money is easily found for sophisticated weapons whose destructive power is comparable to that of the weapons of mass destruction; for submarines whose single salvo is capable of devastating half a continent; for missile defense systems that undermine strategic stability.

Politicians and military leaders sound increasingly belligerent and defense doctrines more dangerous. Commentators and TV personalities are joining the bellicose chorus. It all looks as if the world is preparing for war. » | Mikhail Gorbachev | Thursday, January 26, 2017

TIME 2016 Person of the Year: Donald Trump

Britain’s Theresa May in US: Islam is Peaceful, Globalism Good, Climate Change a Priority

BREITBART.COM: British Prime Minister Theresa May used her speech in Philadelphia to needle the new Trump administration on a number of issues ranging from globalism to climate change, Islam, and even to defending the European Union.

Mrs. May began her speech at the Republican Retreat in Philadelphia with a brief history of Anglo-American relations, invoking the spirit of the Founding Fathers of the U.S. as well as expressing gratitude towards America’s involvement in the World Wars of the 20th century.

But her speech was also littered with politically correct terms, as well as left and centre-left talking points regarding international institutions, Islam, and radical Islamic terrorism, the latter of which she called “Islamist extremism”.

The British premier compared “open, liberal and democratic” societies in the West versus “closed, coercive” ones. She hailed the United Nations, praised the World Bank, and called NATO “the cornerstone” of Western defence. Read on and comment » | Raheem Kassam | Thursday, January 26, 2017
