Donald Trump, Pagan King

THE NEW YORK TIMES — OPINION: Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada recently described the world that President Trump is dragging us into with this aphorism: “The strong do what they can, and the weak suffer what they must.”

The quote comes from Thucydides’ fictionalized account of a negotiation between Athens and the rulers of the island of Melos, in the Peloponnesian War. The Melians, who were no match for the Athenians, wished to remain neutral. They complained that Athens’s demand that they submit to its rule was unjust. The Athenians responded that matters of justice exist only between equals. Between those who are strong and those who are weak there is only force.

The dialogue is famous for its stark portrayal of the dictates of political realism. The world is not guided by ideals and values, it demonstrates. It is brokered only by power.

The Trump administration has adopted this philosophy as its own. In a recent interview with Jake Tapper, Stephen Miller said, “We live in a world in which you can talk all you want about international niceties and everything else, but we live in a world, in the real world, Jake, that is governed by strength, that is governed by force, that is governed by power.”

To sympathetic ears, Mr. Miller sounded refreshingly unsentimental and cleareyed. But the “niceties” he disparaged aren’t just some naïve fantasy. They are the values of Christianity, the faith the Trump administration purports to defend and uphold. » | Leighton Woodhouse | Mr. Woodhouse is a documentary filmmaker and the author of the newsletter Social Studies. | Wednesday, February 11, 2026

How Trump's World Order Hangs Over Europe | Global News Podcast

Feb 11, 2026 | World leaders are heading for Germany, for the annual Munich Security Conference - one year since the US Vice-President JD Vance delivered a bombshell speech, lambasting European leaders and shaking the old transatlantic alliance.

Since then, the Trump White House has tipped the world order upside down with punitive trade tariffs and an unpredictable approach to countries including Ukraine, Russia, Greenland, Canada, Iran and Venezuela. This year, the conference - which begins on Friday - once again looks set to be decisive.

US Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Marco Rubio leads the US delegation, while more than 50 other world leaders have been invited. It comes as the security of Europe looks increasingly precarious and NATO allies are on edge.

The latest US National Security Strategy called on Europe to "stand on its own feet" and take "primary responsibility for its own defence," adding to fears that the US is largely unwilling to underpin Europe's defence.

The BBC's diplomatic correspondent James Landale takes us through the backdrop of the conference and the current state of the transatlantic alliance.

Shocking New Epstein Revelations Would END Trump’s Presidency If We Were a Normal Country

Feb 11, 2026 | Brand new revelations from the Epstein files are shedding even more light on Trump’s association with Jeffrey Epstein—and it doesn’t look good. Trump’s name reportedly appeared in the unredacted Epstein files more than a million times. Moreover, we got further proof that Trump was aware of Epstein’s crimes. Perhaps most shocking of all is a document claiming an FBI agent tampered with evidence that would’ve shed light on Epstein’s death. Oh, and Trump’s FBI Director, Kash Patel, isn’t just defying the law by redacting the names of criminals in the Epstein files, he also committed perjury during his congressional testimony about the Epstein files. In this video we’ll talk about all of the latest bombshell revelations from the Epstein files and their implications.

Smoking: From Cultural Norm to Public Health Crisis | SLICE | Full Documentary

May 3, 2025 | “Smoking kills,” “Smoking harms those around you,” “Smoking causes strong addiction”... A litany of messages punctuating the smoker's daily life who, according to public health campaigns, is a weak-willed individual, harmful to themselves and others. Bans are expanding, methods and therapies abound, tobacco cessation clinics are opening in every hospital. And yet, not long ago, smoking was considered normal behavior — a rite of passage for young people, a sign of self-assertion for men, and emancipation for women.

The dangers of tobacco were known even then, but health and prevention did not hold the prominent place they do today. Why, in just a few decades, has the average person been turned into a patient needing re-education? Has health become our sole horizon, our ultimate utopia?

Some of the nicest people I have ever met have been smokers. Hitler was a non-smoker, and very anti-smoking, so I can confidently conclude that he was no ideal model for the anti-smoing campaigners! Further, Trump is also a non-smoker. He is another, who is no icon for the non-smoking campaigners! Then we have Lenin. He was a militant anti-smoker. All this should tell you all you need to know!

This anti-smoking fervour has caused nothing but loneliness, distress, and paranoia.

In this video, they say that all the focus now is on the body. Yes! And what a mess they are making of it, too! Nothing but ugly tattoos and piercings, here, there, and everywhere! Whilst I am all for encouraging people not to smoke because of the health hazards, I am NOT for coercion. If a person derives pleasure from smoking, and very many people do—I was such a person before quitting—then so be it. I can think of many, far worse, far unhealthier pleasures than smoking a cigarette.

By the way, since people smoke less, their health has not improved. Not at all! Obesity, which was kept under control when more people smoked, is now the cause of many early deaths. Furthermore, cardiovascular disease has shown that it is not in decline.

One more thing: There is nothing more life-enhancing than a little joie de vivre, something which these killjoys totally ignore. Much of the anti-smoking rhetoric is nothing but prejudiced bollocks.

America is the source of so many evil ideas and so much stupidity! And, by the way, as for "passive smoking", it's a load of bullshit! — © Mark Alexander

Feb 10, 2026 | Ghislaine Maxwell is a convicted sex trafficker serving a 20-year sentence for helping Jeffrey Epstein abuse and traffic teenage girls. Now she’s making a shocking demand: a presidential pardon in exchange for her “truth.” After refusing to answer a single question in a congressional deposition, Maxwell’s lawyer made the deal explicit—no testimony unless clemency comes first. 9 Killed and 25 Injured in Shooting at School and Home in Canada

THE NEW YORK TIMES: The shooting occurred in Tumbler Ridge, a remote community in British Columbia. The police said the suspected shooter died of a self-inflicted injury.

Canada was reeling on Wednesday, a day after a shooter killed nine people and injured 25 others in a remote town in northeastern British Columbia, the third-deadliest shooting in the country’s history that comes amid a wider debate about gun control.

Seven people were found dead in Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, including a person believed to be the shooter, who died from what appeared to be a self-inflicted injury, according to Superintendent Ken Floyd of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Two other people were found dead in a local residence that the police believed to be connected to the shooting.

Another person died while being transported from the school to the hospital, and 25 people suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, the police said in a statement.

Mass killings are rare in Canada, but the attack in Tumbler Ridge, population 2,400, was the second deadly incident in British Columbia in less than a year after a man drove a car into a crowd last April. LIVE UPDATES » Francesca Regalado, Vjosa Isai and Yan Zhuang | Wednesday, February 11, 2026

Iran Tells US Not to Let Netanyahu Thwart Nuclear Talks before Trump Meeting

THE GUARDIAN: Tehran’s intervention comes as the Israeli prime minister heads to a hastily arranged White House encounter

Tehran has told the US not to allow Israel to destroy the chance of reaching an agreement over Iran’s nuclear programme amid speculation that Benjamin Netanyahu intends to use a hastily arranged White House meeting with Donald Trump on Wednesday to divert negotiations.

Iran’s intervention came as the Israeli prime minister flew to Washington to plead with Trump not to negotiate a deal with Tehran if it excludes limiting the country’s ballistic missile programme, dropping its support for proxy forces in the region and curtailing human rights abuses at home.

Netanyahu is deeply concerned that Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, are prepared to strike a deal confined to limiting the scope of Iran’s nuclear programme, which in Israel’s view would do nothing to rein in the long-term threat Tehran poses to the region.

Speaking before leaving for Washington, Netanyahu said he would “present to the president our approach around our principles on the negotiations”. He is expected to provide Trump with fresh intelligence about Iran’s military capabilities, including new long-range ballistic missiles. » | Patrick Wintour, Diplomatic editor | Tuesday. The Ties That Bound the ‘Prince of Darkness’ of U.K. Politics to Epstein

THE NEW YORK TIMES: For years Peter Mandelson, a senior British politician, concealed the depth of his friendship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, until new files were released.

When Jeffrey Epstein was still incarcerated at night in a Florida jail for soliciting prostitution from a minor, a close friend emailed with a request to stay at Mr. Epstein’s seven-story, neoclassical mansion on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

“Still OK for Fri-Sat chez vous?” wrote Peter Mandelson, then Britain’s Secretary of State for Business, on June 17, 2009.

Hours later, Mr. Epstein emailed Jes Staley, then a senior executive at JPMorgan, suggesting that he might want to set up a meeting with Mr. Mandelson and Jamie Dimon, the bank’s C.E.O.

“Peter will be staying at 71 st over weekend,” wrote Mr. Epstein, who at the time was allowed after his conviction to leave his cell during the day and work from his office. “Do you want to organize either you, or you and jamie, quietly…up to you.”

These emails are among thousands in the latest tranche of the Epstein files that mention Mr. Mandelson, a veteran British political operative whose ruthless tactics and spin led people to dub him the “Prince of Darkness.”

They reveal a deep friendship between the two men that went far beyond what was publicly known while Mr. Mandelson served in a Labour government from 2008 to 2010, then built a lucrative global consulting business, and eventually returned to public office last year when Prime Minister Keir Starmer made him ambassador to the United States. » | Michael D. Shear and Jane Bradley | Reporting from London | Tuesday, February 10, 2026

The ‘Prince of Darkness’’s queer behaviour is indeed very queer! Queers are not supposed to behave in this very queer, disgracefiul way! This queer, therefore, deserves all that is coming to him! This queer has brought shame on himself and on the queer community worldwide, for sure. Shame on him! — © Mark Alexander

Millionen Menschen fliehen, oft ohne Ziel.
