The Duchess of York has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of skin cancer months after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. A spokesperson for Sarah Ferguson, 64, said medics had removed a mole on her body, which tested as a malignant melanoma, during treatment for her cancer. Doctors are now working to establish whether it was caught early.

“Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York, has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma,” the spokesperson said. “Her dermatologist asked that several moles were removed and analysed at the same time as the duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, and one of these has been identified as cancerous.” » | Tom Ambrose | Sunday, January 21, 2024

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York and ex-wife of Prince Andrew, the disgraced son of Queen Elizabeth II, underwent a single mastectomy after a breast cancer diagnosis, she said during an episode of her podcast that was released Monday.

She received the diagnosis after a routine mammogram, she said during the episode of “Tea Talks With the Duchess & Sarah,” a new weekly podcast that she hosts with the entrepreneur Sarah Thomson. Ms. Ferguson did not say when the operation occurred but noted that the podcast was being recorded the day before it was to take place. Ms. Ferguson displayed no symptoms and did not find a lump, according to the podcast.

“It’s very important that I speak about it,” said Ms. Ferguson, 63, noting that both her father and stepfather died from cancer.

“I’m telling people out there because I want every person listening to this podcast to get checked,” she said. » | Claire Moses, Reporting from London | Monday, June 26, 2023

Sarah Ferguson Flies In from the Cold as Queen Invites Her to Stay

THE SUNDAY EXPRESS: The Duchess of York is spending the weekend with the Queen at Balmoral after being accepted back into the fold.

In an extraordinary comeback for the once-disgraced former wife of Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson is staying at the castle as if she was still part of the Royal Family.

Andrew, Sarah and daughters Beatrice and Eugenie flew to Aberdeen on Friday, hours after celebrating Beatrice’s 25th birthday at home in Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park.

It is not the first time the Duchess has stayed at the Queen’s estate since her 1996 divorce – she was there in 2005 and 2008.

However, a royal insider revealed that on those occasions Sarah wasn’t invited to stay in the main castle, unlike this time.

One Balmoral source said: “It’s just like old times. The Duchess is being treated as if she and the Duke were still married.”

Although the Queen has always had a soft spot for her former daughter-in-law, Prince Philip described her as “odd” and “pointless”.

The Sunday Express understands that Prince Andrew was allowed to take his ex-wife to Balmoral only on condition that she leaves before Philip arrives tomorrow. » | Camilla Tominey | Sunday, August 11, 2013

Turkey Criticises British Film on Turkish Orphanages

INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE: Turkey said on Friday a British television documentary about its orphanages using Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, in an undercover role could harm the welfare of the children involved.

"The way in which the disguised Duchess of York was used to shoot scenes with a hidden camera ... was done without taking into consideration the adverse effects of such unprepared visits on the intellectual and emotional development of these children," Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said.

He made the comments about the ITV documentary, the first part of which aired this week, at a joint news conference with Foreign Secretary David Miliband, where Turkey's bid to join the European Union was relegated to a minor role.

Babacan said Turkey had launched an inquiry into the allegations made in the documentary and anyone responsible for misconduct would be charged.

But he said Turkey regretted the approach used by the makers of the programme, which he said focussed on a rehabilitation centre for mentally handicapped children.

The documentary follows Ferguson, the former wife of Queen Elizabeth's second son, as she visits state orphanages in Turkey and Romania. She poses as a potential charitable donor and secret cameras follow her.

On her visits, Ferguson saw evidence of children being tied to beds and disabled children generally neglected by overworked staff. >>> Reuters / By Adrian Croft | November 7, 2008

Duchess of York Accused of Smearing Turkey's Image

REUTERS: ANKARA - Turkish officials have accused Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, of smearing Turkey's image on a television program about state orphanages in Turkey ahead of a European Union membership report.

Ferguson went under cover with reporters for ITN to visit state-run orphanages in Ankara and Istanbul and expose conditions there. The documentary will be on ITV on November 6.

"It is obvious that Sarah Ferguson is ill-intentioned and is trying to launch a smearing campaign against Turkey by opposing Turkey's EU membership," Nimet Cubukcu, a minister in charge of women and family affairs, told Anatolian agency late Monday.

"It is saddening that Sarah Ferguson made video shots with an orientalist point of view which she is not permitted to make in her own country and tried to cause indignation in Turkey," Cubukcu said.

The European Commission will publish Wednesday a report on countries wanting to join the 27-member bloc. Turkey, a large Muslim country, began membership negotiations in October 2005. The EU has repeatedly criticised Turkey for its human rights record and has urged the government to speed up reforms.

"This is a valid area of public interest at a time when the UK government is endorsing the accession of Turkey into the EU, a process which is conditional in part on Turkey improving its human rights record with children," an ITV spokesperson said. >>> Editing by Louise Ireland | November4, 2008
