A Look Back... David Cameron: Palace ‘Displeasure’ at Former PM - BBC News
Sep 19, 2019 | Buckingham Palace has expressed displeasure after the former Prime Minister David Cameron revealed that he sought the Queen's help during the Scottish independence referendum campaign. In a BBC documentary, Mr Cameron said that in 2014 he had asked if the Queen could intervene because he was concerned Scotland was going to vote for independence. The Queen later urged people to 'think very carefully' about the future.
Another former Conservative Prime Minister is also in the spotlight, as Sir John Major’s lawyers tell the Supreme Court that the current PM, Boris Johnson, was ‘dishonest’ about his reasons for suspending Parliament. Mr Johnson says progress is being made in Brexit talks with the EU.

British Royal Aide Resigns over Racist Remarks - BBC News
Nov 30, 2022 | Prince William’s godmother Lady Susan Hussey has resigned as a Royal aide after repeatedly asking a black British head of a charity where she was “really” from. Lady Hussey, who was lady-in-waiting to the late Queen Elizabeth, questioned Ngoza Fulani about her background at a charity event at Buckingham Palace. When the charity head explained she was British, Lady Hussey asked where her “people” were from and where she was “really” from.
She has since apologised for the comments. The Palace described the comments as “unacceptable and deeply regrettable”. A spokesperson for Prince William said: "Racism has no place in our society. The comments were unacceptable, and it is right that the individual has stepped aside with immediate effect”.
Lady Hussey, who is 83, was a close confidante of the late Queen and accompanied her at the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh.

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: A man who was stopped by police with a Taser stun gun as he ran towards Buckingham Palace wielding two knives has been charged and will appear in court today.
Talhat Rehman, 54, broke from a crowd of tourists in the middle of the Changing of the Guard ceremony yesterday morning, holding one blade to his chest and another to his throat.
As an officer tried to intervene, he lunged at him waving both knives and was shot with the stun gun before being arrested and taken away in a police van.
Mr Rehman, of Harrow, North West London, was later charged with two counts of possessing a bladed weapon in public and one of affray. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today.
"He was not making threats to members of the public but he was challenged by police. He acted aggressively and a Taser was discharged,” a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
Officers at the scene suggested that Mr Rehman was known to them and was mentally ill. He had previously worked at the Maharaja Halal butcher a mile from his home address, it was reported. » | Victoria Ward and Sam Marsden | Monday, February 04, 2013

SEATTLE POST INTELLIGENCER: LONDON — For President Barack Obama, a state dinner hosted by the British queen is much more than a chance to dine on Windsor lamb washed down with 50-year-old port. It's also an opportunity to bask in the grandeur of Britain's monarchy, still glowing from the success of a princely wedding watched around the world.
Large British and American flags lined the Mall, where, less than a month before, Prince William and his new bride, the Duchess of Cambridge, rode to Buckingham Palace. The nearby Green Park still bore large bare patches where the world's media had camped out for the marriage.
Inside the palace, the crimson-carpeted ballroom was laid out with 19th-century silverware, Louis XVI porcelain and fragrant floral arrangements more than 12 feet (four meters) tall. Every gilded ornament had its own rich history — the Rockingham dessert service, for example, was first used for Queen Victoria's coronation in 1838.
The 170 or so guests joining the Obamas for dinner include Britain's prime minister, senior royalty, ambassadors, business leaders, top brass, leading academics, prominent nobility and even the archbishop of Canterbury — who officiated at William's April 29 wedding.
No white-tie state dinner would be complete without a side helping of celebrity. Tom Hanks was on the guest list, as was Tim Burton, Kevin Spacey and Helena Bonham-Carter — who won plaudits for her recent portrayal of the queen's mother in the Academy Award-winning movie "The King's Speech."
The menu, printed in French on dainty white cards, included sole, Windsor lamb with basil, green bean panache and Charlotte a la Vanille for dessert. Wines include Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2004 and Royal Vintage Port from 1963. » | Raphael G. Satter, Associated Press | Tuesday, May 24, 2011
