Prince Albert of Monaco Weighs In on Harry and Meghan's Interview: 'It Did Bother Me’
TATLER: The son of Grace Kelly opened up during an interview with the BBC
Prince Albert II of Monaco has become the first royal to speak out about the bombshell interview that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave to Oprah Winfrey at the beginning of the month, telling the BBC that it 'did bother [him] a bit'.
Speaking to journalist Yalda Hakim about his environmental work, including the need to preserve the planet's marine ecosystems, he was asked for his take on the royal drama.
'This kind of display of public dissatisfaction, to say the least, these type of conversations should be held within the intimate quarters of the family. It doesn't really have to be laid out in the public sphere like that,' he says. 'So it did bother me a little bit. I can understand where they are coming from in a certain way but I think it wasn't the appropriate forum to be able to have these kinds of discussions.' » | Rebecca Cope | Friday, March 26, 2021

Harry and Meghan Aim to Avoid Embarrassing Queen in Oprah Interview
THE GUARDIAN: ‘Tell-all’ interview announcement has prompted reports it will lead to couple being stripped of patronages
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not wish to embarrass the Queen despite frenzied speculation over their planned “wide-ranging” interview with Oprah Winfrey, it is understood.
The announcement by CBS of a “tell-all” intimate account by Harry and Meghan of their “Megxit” departure from the UK has led to reports it is the final straw for an exasperated Buckingham Palace who will strip the couple of their royal patronages.
The couple are said to have the greatest respect and love for the Queen and will not say anything to undermine that, according to a source. They are determined to fight to retain their patronages.
Reports that the interview will directly result in Harry being stripped of his honorary military titles, and of Meghan losing her patronage of the National Theatre, personally bestowed by the Queen, are understood to have conflated two issues. Rather, practical considerations, such as the couple living thousands of miles away, are likely to see them being forced to relinquish them under palace pressure. » | Caroline Davies | Tuesday, 16, 2021

Oprah Winfrey: The Butler, Racism and Obama
BBC: American broadcaster and actress Oprah Winfrey said there was a whole generation of racist people who were "born and bred and marinated" in racism who would never change their ways, but that would die out.
She spoke to the BBC's Will Gompertz while in the UK to promote her new film The Butler, in which she plays Gloria Gaines, the wife of a White House butler. Watch BBC interview » | Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Oprah Winfrey 'Sorry' for Naming Switzerland in Race Row
BBC: US talk show host Oprah Winfrey has said she is sorry for a "blown up" media response after she claimed she encountered racism in an upmarket handbag store in Zurich.
Speaking on the red carpet premiere for her new film, The Butler, Winfrey said: "I think that incident in Switzerland was just an incident in Switzerland."
"I'm really sorry that it got blown up. I purposefully did not mention the name of the store. I'm sorry that I said it was Switzerland," she added.
Her claims were made amid a political row in Switzerland over asylum seekers' rights. » | Tuesday, August 13, 2013

» | Freitag, 09. August 2013

Switzerland Apologises to Oprah Winfrey over Handbag Incident
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Switzerland's national tourism office has apologised to Oprah Winfrey over an incident involving a handbag
The media mogul, who is one of the world's richest women, told the US TV programme "Entertainment Tonight" that a shop assistant in Zurich refused to show her a handbag because it was "too expensive" for her.
Forbes magazine estimates that Winfrey earned $77 million in the year ending in June.
A spokeswoman for the Swiss tourism office, Daniela Baer, told The Associated Press on Friday "we are very sorry for what happened to her".
The tourism office also posted an apology on Twitter, saying "this person acted terribly wrong".
Winfrey told fellow US talk show host Larry King on internet channel ora.tv: "I'm in a store, a name-brand store. I'm by myself, absolutely nobody else with me. And I say to the woman, 'I would like to see that bag on the shelf'.
"And she says, 'No, that one's too expensive. I'll show you this one'," said Winfrey.
Trudie Goetz, head of the Swiss luxury chain Trois Pommes, denied her saleswoman had ever sought to stop Winfrey buying the bag.
"Everyone wants to sell a crocodile bag," Goetz told AFP. "It's a misunderstanding," she said, adding that the saleswoman always put the customer first and tried to be "too kind". » | Agencies | Friday, August 09, 2013

A broadcasting era has come to an end after the last ever episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show, which has become the highest-rated programme of its kind in history, aired in the US.
The talk show has run for 25 years and over that time, Winfrey, its host and producer, has become one of the most influential people in the world.
Millions of people across the world tune in to watch the talk show queen, who rose to stardom from humble beginnings.
Her influence - dubbed the 'Oprah Effect' - is so strong that almost any product appearing on her show sees a dramatic rise in sales.
The effect has even rippled to the Middle East, where Muna Abu Sulayman has been described as the Saudi Arabian 'Oprah'.
Sulayman, who is also the first Saudi woman to be appointed a UN goodwill ambassador, told Al Jazeera about Winfrey's impact on her own career.
Cath Turner reports from Chicago.
