Harrison Ford Says Trump’s Assault on Climate Policy ‘Scares the Shit Out of Me’

THE GUARDIAN: Indiana Jones star calls US president one of history’s greatest criminals for attacks on science and boosting of fossil fuels

Harrison Ford has said that Donald Trump’s assault upon measures to address the climate crisis “scares the shit out of me” and makes the US president among the worst criminals in history.

In a blistering attack upon the president, Ford told the Guardian that Trump “doesn’t have any policies, he has whims. It scares the shit out of me. The ignorance, the hubris, the lies, the perfidy. [Trump] knows better, but he’s an instrument of the status quo and he’s making money, hand over fist, while the world goes to hell in a handbasket.”

The legendary Star Wars and Indiana Jones actor, who is 83, added: “It’s unbelievable. I don’t know of a greater criminal in history.”

In his second term as president, Trump has set about dismantling climate and clean air protections, halted clean energy projects, urged oil and gas companies to “drill, baby, drill” for the fossil fuels that are overheating the planet, fired hundreds of scientists while deleting their work, and even banned mentions of “climate change” and “emissions” within government. » | Oliver Milman in Chicago | Friday, October 31, 2025

Not in This Together: King Charles Cuts Andrew Loose to Save Royal Family’s Repute

THE GUARDIAN: Jettisoning of ex-prince became unavoidable when king’s loyalty to his brother collided with task of keeping public on side

To strip his brother of his titles and to evict him from his home is the most consequential action King Charles has taken since he ascended the throne in 2022.

The defenestration of Prince Andrew, now to be known only as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, and the removal of his cherished privilege of royal status is an act of utmost ruthlessness by a king. Ascending the throne at 73, Charles always knew he would play a caretaker role for the monarchy and so could not allow rot to set into an institution that lives and dies by public consent.

The damage that Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell continued to inflict on the reputation of the royal family was simply too much for the king not to act as he did on Thursday evening. Charles has been described by his biographer Catherine Mayer as “loyal to a fault. Sometimes to the point of fault,” but this was too much. » | Robert Booth | Thursday, October 30, 2025

The Guardian View on Argentina’s Election: One Step Closer to Becoming a Trumpian Client State

THE GUARDIAN — EDITORIAL: A $40bn rescue may have helped Javier Milei scrape through midterms, but it leaves Argentina’s democracy and economy more dependent than ever on Washington

Argentina’s rightwing president, Javier Milei, his party and its allies claimed victory this week in key congressional elections. But it was Donald Trump who emerged the biggest winner. A $40bn lifeline from the US president gave Mr Milei’s beleaguered government just enough credibility – and apparent firepower – to halt the Argentinian peso’s slide. Crucially, this helped to stabilise consumer prices in the final weeks of the campaign. The US rescue engendered a short-lived aura of competence that allowed Mr Milei to shift the blame for rising prices back to the opposition, despite his own role in accelerating inflation by devaluing the currency when he took office.

Mr Milei’s wasn’t a decisive triumph. His rightwing coalition got 40% of the midterms vote thanks largely to a low turnout and a fragmented opposition. His “chainsaw” programme of privatisation and public spending cuts has not been popular. Polls suggest that six in 10 voters disapprove. Unsurprising, perhaps: since Mr Milei took office in December 2023, Argentinians’ purchasing power has fallen sharply, real wages have declined and more than 200,000 jobs have been lost. » | Editorial | Wednesday, October 29, 2025

Andrew Stripped of 'Prince' Title and Will Move Out of Royal Lodge | BBC News

Oct 30, 2025 | Andrew will lose his title and move out of Royal Lodge, a statement from Buckingham Palace has said. Buckingham Palace says the King "has today initiated a formal process", and his brother will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

As well as the title, the Palace says "formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease" on Royal Lodge, and Andrew will move to the royal estate in Sandringham, Norfolk

"These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him," the Palace said.

Andrew gave up his other royal titles earlier this month after more questions about his private life.

In a posthumous memoir, Virginia Giuffre repeated allegations that, as a teenager, she had sex with Prince Andrew on three separate occasions. Andrew has always denied the claims.

Also this month, emails from 2011 re-emerged, showing Andrew in contact with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein months after he claimed their friendship ended.

Neues Limit: Trump-Regierung begrenzt Aufnahme von Flüchtlingen massiv

BERLINER ZEITUNG: Die US-Regierung will künftig deutlich weniger Geflüchtete aufnehmen.

» | Sophie Barkey | Donnerstag, 30. Hungry Man Kitchen: Turkish Butcher Kofta — Kasap Kofta

Jun 24, 2022 | Kasap kofta / kofte (Butcher's Meatball) is a very common type of kofta / meatballs in Turkey and there is no set recipe as it is mostly prepared by local butchers and everyone follows their own recipe.

This one is my favorite with its texture, balanced spices and has a juicy and meaty bite. I make these almost every week or keep them in my freezer as we often crave for these little flavor bombs.

Geert Wilders Faces Shutout as Centrists Hail Huge Gains in Knife-edge Dutch Election

THE GUARDIAN: Far right neck and neck with liberal D66 but all major mainstream parties have ruled out working with anti-Islam firebrand

Geert Wilders is almost certain to be shut out of the next Dutch government after a knife-edge general election in which support for his far-right Freedom party (PVV) slumped and the liberal-progressive D66 party made spectacular gains.

With 99.7% of ballots counted, the two parties were neck and neck on a projected 26 seats each in the 150-seat parliament, with D66 an estimated 15,000 votes ahead after the capital, Amsterdam, declared preliminary results on Thursday.

“It’s incredibly tense,” D66’s 38-year-old leader, Rob Jetten, who is in pole position to become prime minister, told reporters. “We have to wait for the next few hours – or more like days – for the final results.” But, he added, he was “very confident” of being able to form a new coalition government. » | Jon Henley, Europe correspondent | Thursday, October 30, 2025
