And The Times Investigations reporter George Greenwood reveals why it's so difficult to obtain information from the government about the royal family, and what it could mean for public trust in 'The Firm'.

Prince Andrew Book Seals His Fate for Any Return

BBC: This searing biography of Prince Andrew crackles with scandals about sex and money on almost every page, two subjects that have always caused problems for the royals.

Andrew Lownie's book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, is an unrelentingly unflattering portrait of Prince Andrew. It depicts him as arrogant, self-seeking and in denial about his links to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The author's best-selling biographies have a habit of changing the reputation of famous figures, such as establishing the Nazi intrigues around the Duke of Windsor, the former Edward VIII.

Although in the case of Entitled, he hasn't so much cemented Prince Andrew's reputation, as put it in concrete boots and thrown it in the river. It is hard to see how he might come back from this.

This account, more than 450 pages, is said to have taken four years to research, involving hundreds of interviews. And for anyone thinking they have heard much of this story before, it is the extra and sometimes unexpected, throwaway details that will make this a fascinating read. » | Sean Coughlan | Royal correspondent | Saturday, August 9, 2025

THE TELEGRAPH: Revelations made amid ongoing wrangling between the monarch and his disgraced younger brother

The King has severed the Duke of York’s “£1 million-a-year” allowance in recent weeks, it has emerged.

In an updated biography about the monarch, author Robert Hardman revealed that King Charles has instructed his Keeper of the Privy Purse to “sever” his brother’s living allowance.

The new chapters of Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, serialised by the Daily Mail, includes a palace insider confirming that “the Duke is no longer a financial burden on the King”.

The news comes amid ongoing wrangling between the monarch and his disgraced younger brother about his living situation in the 30-bedroom Royal Lodge home in Windsor Great Park.

The King, who was said to be losing patience with Prince Andrew in the early summer, was previously understood to have threatened to withdraw the funding that allows Andrew to keep living in the house, which has extensive upkeep requirements.

The Duke’s annual allowance – believed to be upwards of £1 million – has reportedly now been cut by the monarch, as have all payments towards his seven-figure private security detail. » | India McTaggart, Royal Correspondent | Friday, November 1, 2024
