THE GUARDIAN: Foreign minister issues warning after Israeli attack on South Pars gasfield and as Qatar reels from retaliatory strike
Iran said on Thursday it would show “zero restraint” if its energy infrastructure was targeted again as Qatar revealed that almost a fifth of its liquefied natural gas export capacity had been knocked out in an Iranian strike that is likely to have a years-long impact.
The warning, delivered by the Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, followed Israel’s attack on Iran’s massive South Pars gasfield – which it shares with Qatar – which triggered Iranian retaliatory strikes on Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas complex and other Gulf neighbours, sending stock markets tumbling globally and triggering sharp increases in gas prices.
Ras Laffan supplies about 20% of the world’s liquefied natural gas. Israel also confirmed on Thursday that the Bazan Group refinery in Haifa had been hit and damaged in a claimed Iranian strike.

Israeli settlers beat a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank, stripped him naked, tied his arms and legs and then zip-tied his penis, he, his family members and another witness said on Wednesday.
“I thought I was going to die,” the man, Suhaib Abualkebash, a 29-year-old shepherd, told The New York Times. “I thought this was the end.”
Several family members and an American woman corroborated details of Mr. Abualkebash’s account, saying they witnessed the sexual assault on Friday by several men among a group of more than 20 settlers who marauded though a Bedouin encampment. The relatives and the American said they had been beaten, too, adding that the assailants had kicked and slapped children during the attack. Family members also shared copies of reports they had filed to the Israeli police.
Israeli settlers have been waging an escalating campaign of violence and land theft against Palestinians across much of the West Bank. It has intensified as Israeli attitudes toward Palestinians have hardened since the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and the war that ensued. The attacks have increased while international attention has been focused on the U.S.-Israel war with Iran. Many years ago, when I worked in the Middle East, I had many Palestinian colleagues. I have very fond memories of them, too. In work, I spent a lot of time with them. They were gentle and kind colleagues, always willing to help when help was needed. Even on weekends if, for example, I needed help moving house. And they would never take money for the assistance they gave me; in fact, they couldn’t do enough for you. I shall never forget their kindness toward me. This isn't a sweet cake; it’s a rustic, savory bread packed with Italian flavor: salami, mortadella, and provolone.
Grandmas all over Italy have their own family version of this recipe. I grew up watching my grandma "eye up" the batter until it felt right, but for this video, I’ve written everything down so you can get it perfect every time.

THE NEW YORK TIMES: Israeli attacks have targeted the command centers of Iran’s repressive, internal security forces in hopes that Iranians will overthrow their rulers. Some see that as wishful thinking.
Israeli attacks on Iran have been targeting the country’s internal security services as part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strategy to destabilize the authoritarian government and create the conditions for a popular uprising.
Israel has already killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and announced on Tuesday that it killed the country’s top security official, Ali Larijani. Beyond that, the Israeli military has been heavily bombing the security forces that have quashed wave after wave of anti-government protests in Iran.
Some former Israeli military officials dismissed Mr. Netanyahu’s strategy as unrealistic, arguing that Iran’s internal security services are too deeply entrenched and powerful. Other experts, however, argue that Israel should try to bring about a change in leadership, while acknowledging that airstrikes alone will not be enough without a popular uprising.
Mr. Netanyahu has said that Israel’s air campaign has delivered “crushing blows” to Iran’s security apparatus and will create “optimal” conditions for Iranians to oust their government.

Depuis sa désignation, le 8 mars, comme successeur de son père, le nouveau leader iranien, 56 ans, n’est pas apparu en public ni à la télévision. Pas même une simple photographie n’a été diffusée. Son seul signe adressé aux Iraniens fut un long message, lu le 10 mars par un présentateur sur une chaîne de télévision, où il rendait essentiellement hommage à son prédécesseur et adoptait sa ligne dure. « Le peuple exige que vous poursuiviez une défense efficace et humiliante pour l’ennemi. Il est également essentiel d’utiliser le levier de la fermeture du détroit d’Ormuz », a-t-il écrit.
Sans doute pensée pour rassurer sur le sort du guide, cette intervention, peu dans les habitudes du régime, a obtenu l’effet parfaitement inverse : le moulin à rumeurs s’est emballé.
