HUNGRY MAN KITCHEN: Classic Greek Moussaka - Traditional and Delicious! | Reupload
Aug 11, 2023 | The word "Moussaka" itself has Arabic origins, derived from the word "musaqqa'a," which means "chilled." Early versions of this dish were made with layered vegetables and sometimes meat, then baked and served at room temperature.
The concept of layering and baking vegetables eventually spread to other parts of the Mediterranean, including Greece. Greek Moussaka, as we know it today, is said to have been adapted and popularized by the Greek population during the Ottoman era.
This widely known Greek version was created by the French-trained Greek chef Nikolaos Tselementes in the 1920s.

Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 3 | Khatia Buniatishvili, Neeme Järvi, Verbier Festival | Reupload
April 10, 2021 | Khatia Buniatishvili, Neeme Järvi and the Verbier Festival Orchestra perform Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30 at the Verbier Festival in 2011.
Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873 – 1943) wrote his third Piano Concerto in 1909 at the Ivanovka country estate 550 kilometres south-east of Moscow. Rachmaninoff spent the summer months here from 1890 until his emigration to the US in 1917. The three movements of the piece recall the structure of typical solo concerts of the Romantic era. Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30 was premiered by the New York Symphony Orchestra on November 28, 1909 in New York, conducted by Walter Damrosch. Rachmaninoff, who had been practicing the concert on a silent piano during his Atlantic voyage, played the solo part himself.
As a child, pianist Khatia Buniatishvili, born in 1987 in Tblisi, Georgia, was considered a wunderkind. She began to play the piano at the age of three and gave her first concert with the Tblisi concert orchestra at the age of six. International performances followed when she was ten. In 2008, she gave her US debut at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Since then, Buniatishvili has been regularly invited to many high-profile festivals and has given concerts in the world’s most renowned concert halls, for instance at Vienna’s Musikverein, at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and at the Berlin Philharmonic. She has won the highly respected Echo Classic Award twice.
The Verbier Festival is one of the most prestigious classical music events in the world. The quality of the participating artists as well as the originality of the programs have established the festival as a highlight of the music season. It takes place for two weeks in late July and early August in the mountain resort of Verbier, in Switzerland.

Trump Frees Fraudster Just Days Into Seven-Year Prison Sentence
THE NEW YORK TIMES: David Gentile had been found guilty for his role in what prosecutors described as a $1.6 billion scheme that defrauded thousands of investors.
President Trump has set free a private equity executive who had served less than two weeks of a seven-year sentence for his role in what prosecutors described as a $1.6 billion scheme that defrauded thousands of victims.
David Gentile, 59, a onetime resident of Nassau County, N.Y., had reported to prison on Nov. 14, and was released on Wednesday, according to Bureau of Prisons records and a White House official who was not authorized to discuss the matter.
Mr. Gentile and a co-defendant, Jeffry Schneider, were convicted in August 2024 of securities and wire fraud charges, and sentenced in May. Unlike a pardon, the commutation granted to Mr. Gentile will not erase his conviction.
Mr. Schneider, who was sentenced to six years, does not appear to have received clemency from Mr. Trump.
In a social media post on Thanksgiving, Alice Marie Johnson, Mr. Trump’s “pardon czar,” said she was “deeply grateful to see David Gentile heading home to his young children.”
Mr. Trump has used the unfettered presidential clemency power to forgive an array of white-collar crimes and to make political points, including by casting prosecutions of his supporters as corrupt witch hunts like those that he claims had targeted him. » | Kenneth P. Vogel | Kenneth P. Vogel, who covers influence in Washington, has investigated the use of clemency by President Trump and former President Joseph R. Biden Jr. | Saturday, November 29, 2025

All the President’s Millions: How the Trumps Are Turning the Presidency into Riches
THE GUARDIAN: From Vietnam to the Balkans, Donald Trump’s family has launched a global dealmaking blitz since his re-election
Acrusading prosecutor in the Balkans comes under pressure to drop a big case. Vietnamese villagers learn they are to be evicted. A convicted crypto kingpin in the Gulf receives a pardon.
All have one thing in common: they appear to be connected to the Trump family’s campaign to amass riches around the world. Since Donald Trump’s re-election a year ago, warnings that his use of presidential power to advance personal interests is corroding American democracy have grown ever louder. What is less understood – and perhaps even more dangerous – is the damage this is doing everywhere else.
Trump’s eldest sons, Don Jr and Eric, formally the custodians of the family business, are conducting a global dealmaking blitz. They have broken ground on new golf courses, received permission for new skyscrapers, rented out the Trump brand, and in cryptocurrency they have embraced a venture with the capacity to bring in more than everything that has gone before.
They insist, in Eric’s words, that there is a “huge wall” between this moneymaking and their father’s position as the most powerful man alive. “Nothing I do has anything to do with the White House,” Eric told CNN recently.
But Kristofer Harrison, a senior foreign policy official under President George W Bush who now runs an anti-corruption organisation called the Dekleptocracy Project, is among those accusing the Trumps of operating a “pay to play” system that benefits those who do business with the president’s family. Such an approach could be manipulated, he said, especially by rival powers such as China. He said: “Trump has made authoritarians’ wildest dreams come true.” » | Tom Burgis | Sunday, November 30, 2025

Pope Leo Calls for a Two-State Solution in Israel
THE NEW YORK TIMES: The pope, en route to Lebanon after visiting Turkey, said he had discussed with the Turkish president how the Vatican might help mediate in the conflict.
Shortly after takeoff from Istanbul after completing the first leg of his inaugural international trip, Pope Leo XIV said he had spoken with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey about serving as a “mediating voice” to help Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories negotiate a two-state solution.
“We all know that right now Israel does not accept this situation,” the pope said, speaking in Italian in response to a Turkish reporter’s question about the Vatican’s position on the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Leo, noting that the Vatican is “also friends with Israel,” said a two-state solution was “the only solution” to “the conflict they continually live.” He added, “Turkey has an important role that it can play in this.”
The pope’s answer was in accordance with longstanding Vatican policy. The Vatican also has criticized Israel’s conduct during the war in Gaza. In October, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See’s Secretary of State, said Israel was conducting a “massacre” in Gaza as retribution for Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel. Cardinal Parolin described those attacks as an “inhuman massacre.” After the Israeli government objected to Cardinal Parolin’s comments, Pope Leo said that the cardinal “expressed the Holy See’s opinion in this matter very well.”
Leo, who thanked President Erdogan for the use of his personal helicopter, said on the plane that the Turkish leader had spent many months talking with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine to try to resolve the war in Ukraine. Leo said he hoped that, given President Erdogan’s relationships with the leaders of Russia, Ukraine and the United States, which is trying to broker a cease-fire, the Turkish president could help “promote dialogue” that would lead to a cease-fire and ultimately an end to the war. » | Motoko Rich | Reporting from the papal plane en route from Istanbul to Beirut, Lebanon | Sunday, November 30, 2025
