"We Have to Move Fast": Jane Fonda Relaunches Father's Free Speech Group to Counter Trump Censorship

Oct 3, 2025 | The Oscar-winning actress and activist Jane Fonda is relaunching her father Henry Fonda's free speech organization, the Committee for the First Amendment. First established in 1947 to combat the rise of McCarthyism, the organization brings together members of the film and television industry to push back against and refuse government censorship. Fonda's announcement comes after the television network ABC brought back late-night host Jimmy Kimmel's show following widespread protest. Kimmel's show had been pulled from the air after he made comments criticizing the Trump administration's response to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. "This regime is held up by pillars: military, media, professions and so forth. If each pillar organizes to remove support, we can do it," says Fonda about why she's decided to relaunch the organization now. "We have to do it."

Germany's AfD: We Share the Same Values with Trump | DW News

Oct 2, 2025 | Members of the AfD, the right-wing German party, are becoming regulars in Washington, meeting with Donald Trump's administration to “tie the bonds,” as Markus Frohnmaier told DW’s Bureau Chief Ines Pohl during an interview. She asked him about the commonalities between the MAGA movement and his party, as well as the significance of Donald Trump's support and that of his cabinet, not only for the AfD but also for other right-wing parties across Europe. The AfD has been officially classified as a "confirmed right-wing extremist endeavor" by Germany's Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz or BfV).

Group Builds 'Whites Only' Community in the US: Can They Get Away with It? | DW News

Aug 30, 2025 | In a remote area of the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas, a controversial community called "Return to the Land" is being developed exclusively for white residents. Founded by Eric Orwoll and Peter Csere, the community conducts rigorous screenings for applicants, including interviews and background checks, based on ancestral heritage. They believe they qualify for legal exemptions to restrict housing by race. Experts warn this may violate federal housing discrimination laws, and an investigation by the Arkansas attorney general is underway. Pat Johnson, who went to a segregated school nearby in the 1940s can't believe how open the community is about its project. DW’s Ines Pohl and Nils Hünerfürst brought this story from Arkansas.

Hitler - When Capitalism Lost Control of Its Thug

Jun 26, 2025 | In the midst of economic collapse and mass unemployment, Germany faced a critical choice in the 1930s. While the United States turned toward progressive reform with Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal, Germany went the opposite direction--into fascism, war, and darkness.

This episode of A History of Economic Tyranny explores the rise of Adolf Hitler, the fall of the Weimar Republic, and how fascism triumphed over democracy through fear, propaganda, and elite complicity.

We examine how Hitler was not truly elected to power, but rather installed by conservative leaders who believed they could control him, and how that catastrophic miscalculation led to dictatorship, genocide, and world war.

What led ordinary Germans to support an extremist? How did the rich and powerful help make Hitler's rise possible? What lessons must we learn today to resist authoritarianism? This is not just a video about history, it's a warning.

Oct 2, 2025 | ITV News can exclusively reveal the first image of the Manchester synagogue attacker, who has been identified as Jihad Al-Shamie.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that, although formal identification is yet to take place, they believe the person responsible for Thursday's attack is the 35-year-old.

According to the force he is "a British citizen of Syrian descent".

Manchester Attack: Two Killed and Four Injured after Terrorist Drives into Grounds of Synagogue and Stabs Worshippers

THE GIARDIAN: Police say Jihad Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent, was behind car and knife attack that left four people seriously injured

Police have shot dead a terrorist who killed two people and seriously injured four others in an attack at a synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Using a car to ram into the grounds of the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Crumpsall, the man then stabbed worshippers in a six-minute rampage that only ended when armed officers shot at him twice, fearing he also had an explosive device tied to his chest. It was later found to be a fake.

Police named the attacker on Thursday night as Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, a British citizen of Syrian descent. Greater Manchester Police revealed that three other people – two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s – had been arrested “on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism”.

It is understood the attacker entered the United Kingdom as a young child and was granted British citizenship in 2006. » | Josh Halliday, Chris Osuh, Emine Sinmaz, Vikram Dodd, Hannah Al-Othman, Robyn Vinter and Dan Sabbagh | Thursday, October 2, 2025
