Greater Manchester Police Officer Sacked over 'Offensive and Racist' Comments about Muslims on Facebook

MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS: GMP panel hears how colleague was 'disgusted' by rant, on Daily Mail story, which is ruled to have breached force's professional standards

A police officer who posted ‘offensive and racist’ comments about Muslims on Facebook has been dismissed from Greater Manchester Police force.

During only the second hearing of its kind ever to be heard in public, the officer admitted gross misconduct by breaching professional standards for equality and diversity and discreditable conduct.

A panel chaired by Assistant Chief Constable Ian Wiggett heard how an officer, who remained anonymous throughout the hearing, had posted Facebook comments which had ‘disgusted’ a colleague.

Officer A made a comment below a Daily Mail article about the number of Muslim and Christian children in Birmingham.

He said: “That’s because we have allowed them to settle into their own communities and they have no desire to mix, they would rather take over areas and breed like rabbits.

"If you look at the way they take over certain areas it’s not unlike what the Germans did in Europe, they get a stronghold and then go for broke. We have already had 2 Muslim-related beheadings in this country in a year.”

The comment has since been deleted. » | Beth Abbit | Friday, June 05, 2015

Report Says Child Sexual Exploitation ‘Normal in Parts of Greater Manchester’

THE GUARDIAN: Study by Ann Coffey MP calls for recognition of ‘real and ongoing problem’ of abuse as a priority public health issue

Sexual exploitation of vulnerable children has become the social norm in some parts of Greater Manchester, fuelled by explicit music videos and quasi-pornographic selfies, an MP has warned.

The systematic grooming of boys and girls remains a “real and ongoing problem”, a year after Greater Manchester police (GMP) was forced to admit it had failed abuse victims in Rochdale, said Ann Coffey, a former social worker who is now the Labour MP for Stockport. “My observations will make painful reading for those who hoped that Rochdale was an isolated case,” she writes in a significant report.

She said Britain needed a big change in attitudes towards child sexual exploitation similar to how perceptions of gay rights have changed over recent decades. She believes such exploitation should be declared a priority public health issue, like smoking, obesity, alcohol and drug use, so that a more strategic approach can be developed. » | Helen Pidd, northern editor | Thursday, October 30, 2014

Lee Rigby: Military Funeral for Killed Soldier

BBC: The prime minister and thousands of mourners have attended the military funeral of Fusilier Lee Rigby at Bury Parish Church in Greater Manchester.

The 25-year-old soldier, from Middleton, was killed in Woolwich, south-east London, in May.

His commanding officer Lt Col Jim Taylor said in a eulogy that he had been "a true regimental character".

After the service, his body was taken for a private burial at Middleton Cemetery along roads lined by mourners.

The soldier's family, who were greeted by applause as they arrived with his son wearing a T-shirt showing the words 'My Daddy My Hero', have thanked people "across the world" for their "overwhelming support".

Fusilier Rigby's wife Rebecca said: "There are so many kind and generous people out there.

"It's just horrible that it takes something such as this to make you see how many good people there are." (+ video) » | Friday, July 12, 2013

Drummer Rigby was stabbed to death outside Woolwich barracks in south east London in May.

Rochdale Council leader Colin Lambert said: 'We are planning, along with his family, to provide a lasting tribute to Lee which is befitting to his memory and bravery.'

It is not known at this stage exactly where or what form the memorial will take, but reports suggest it may be located in a local park.
