European Commision Chief von der Leyen Says EU Will Suspend Bilateral Ties with Israel | DW News

Sep 10, 2025 | The conflicts in Russia and Gaza have overshadowed a speech to the European Parliament by the bloc's most powerful political official.

During her State of the Union speech in Strasbourg, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she would seek sanctions and a partial trade suspension against Israel over its actions in Gaza. She also condemned the drone incursion in Poland and said building up the continent's defenses was central to the EU's agenda. That exends to investing in protecting Europe's eastern flank, von der Leyen said, from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.

Democracy Now! Jeffrey Epstein & JPMorgan: How the Largest US Bank Enabled the Sexual Predator's Crimes

Sep 9, 2025 | Amid growing pressure for the Trump administration to release the full Jeffrey Epstein files, a New York Times investigation reveals how the country's largest bank, JPMorgan Chase, enabled Epstein's sex-trafficking operation and profited from its ties to him. The exposé is based on more than 13,000 pages of legal and financial records. The Times reports JPMorgan processed more than 4,700 transactions for Epstein totaling more than $1.1 billion, including payments to some of the women who were sexually trafficked. The bank "arranged for Epstein to be able to pay those victims, both in the U.S. and in Eastern European countries and in Russia," says David Enrich, deputy investigations editor for The New York Times. Epstein "operated in large part because he had unfettered access to the global financial system. And for many years, it was JPMorgan that was providing him with that access."

No Man Is an Island: A British Society and Its Historic Push for Gay Rights | Reupload

May 29, 2025 | This creative documentary immerses us in a little-known chapter of gay history. In 1992, the Isle of Man was one of the last places in western Europe to decriminalise homosexual acts.

Through verbatim reconstruction and newly discovered archives, we understand the impact of discriminatory parliamentary debates, controversial media coverage and overreaching police surveillance. In a short period of time, this corner of the British Isles went on to create some of the most progressive legislation in the world. Do people change, or do laws change people?

Javier Milei's Demise Is Coming

Sep 10, 2025 | The Grayzone's Oscar Leon and Venezuelan analyst Diego Sequera join Max Blumenthal to discuss local Argentinian elections which the party of right-wing President Javier Milei lost in a landslide, and what it means for his political future.

I should like to point out to my followers and visitors that I said from the very start that Javier Milei’s experiment with anarcho-capitalism will fail. It appears that my words are coming true even sooner than I thought possible. Milei’s experiment is ridiculous. Milei's way is no way to run a country! — © Mark Alexander

Poland Says Up to Four of 19 Russian Drones Shot Down after Entering Airspace | BBC News

Sep 10, 2025 | Poland's prime minister said a “huge number” of Russian drones violated the country's airspace during strikes on western Ukraine.

Speaking ahead of an emergency meeting, Donald Tusk said “this is the first time Russian drones have been shot down over the territory of a Nato country”.

A military operation has ended after Polish and Nato aircraft were deployed and most airports have reopened - Russia has yet to comment.

The drones that entered Poland were part of the latest major aerial attack on Ukraine, where Russia launched 415 drones overnight. Ukraine's President Zelensky said "at least eight strike drones" were aimed towards Poland, and called the escalation an “extremely dangerous precedent for Europe”.

Emmanuel Macron Appoints His Third Prime Minister in a Year

THE GUARDIAN: Sébastien Lecornu, a presidential ally, is tasked with bringing France’s divided parties together to pass a budget

Sébastien Lecornu, a close ally of Emmanuel Macron, has been appointed prime minister, tasked with consulting France’s divided political parties to try to find a consensus on the budget.

The 39-year-old began his political career in the traditional right party of Nicolas Sarkozy before moving to Macron’s centre in 2017 and is seen as fiercely loyal to the president.

His promotion from defence minister shows Macron’s determination to press on with a minority government that stands firmly behind his pro-business economic reform agenda, under which taxes on business and the wealthy have been cut and the retirement age raised.

However, in an unusual move in French politics, Macron’s office said the president had asked Lecornu to hold talks with all political forces in parliament in view of finding compromises on the budget and other policies before naming his cabinet. » | Angelique Chrisafis in Paris | Tuesday, September 9, 2025

Historian Avi Shlaim on Israel’s Long War on Palestine | The InnerView

Sep 8, 2025 | Avi Shlaim tells Imran Garda that Zionism has transformed into a relentless killing machine. He describes the violence Israel has unleashed in Gaza as unlimited, unrestrained, and indiscriminate.

How did things come to this? Shlaim, an Iraqi-born British-Israeli historian and Oxford professor, dives deep into this question in his latest book, Genocide in Gaza: Israel’s Long War on Palestine. He argues that Israel’s policy toward Palestinians has gone beyond land grabs and forced displacement, calling it outright genocide.

In this episode of The InnerView, Shlaim reflects on the moment that compelled him to write the book. He also discusses why he believes the two-state solution is no longer possible, and how he thinks people will remember the ongoing conflict a century from now.
