US Lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene to Resign | BBC News

Nov 22, 2025 | Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced she will resign from office, an unexpected turn for the high-profile Republican.

One of Donald Trump's Maga superstars and staunchest defenders, the Georgia congresswoman's relentless calls for releasing files related to late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and recent criticism of some of his policies led to a bitter public feud.

After the US president labelled her a "traitor", she said in a video announcing her departure: "I refuse to be a 'battered wife' hoping it all goes away and gets better." Trump, who had threatened to support a Republican challenger to unseat Greene, called her resignation "great news for the country" in an interview with ABC News.

She said in her video statement, posted on social media, that she would leave the US Congress on 5 January 2026.

Clearly, one MAGA supporter has seen the light. It is to be hoped that many more MAGA supporters also see the light very soon and jump ship. The MAGA movement is like a metastasising cancer on the West. The West will be best served when the movement dies a natural death. — © Mark Alexander

Trump’s Right-hand Man Has Been ‘A Bit Hasty’: Why Western Leaders Need to Talk Down Trump

Nov 22, 2025 | “Starmer needs to agree with Macron, and Merz and others on a way forward… and then get on the video link to Washington and talk Trump through this.”

Western leaders must show Trump that Witkoff has been “a bit hasty here” in his peace plan with Putin, says former national security adviser Lord Ricketts.

Michael Lambert: AI Is About to Change Everything You Know!

Nov 22, 2025 | AI is about to reshape our world faster than any technology in human history. Not just in terms of convenience or efficiency — but in terms of jobs, power, government, national identity and the basic meaning of human life.

In this video I explain why AI is not “just another tech trend”, but a genuine economic and social tsunami. We already see banks, councils, law firms, call centres, the media, accountants and logistics companies quietly replacing human thinking with AI systems. The pace is accelerating — and politicians are asleep.

What happens when 40–50% of people are no longer economically useful? What happens when machines take over the thinking, the planning, the decision-making — not in 50 years, but within the next decade? How does society function when human intelligence is no longer the most valuable commodity?

This is the most important video I’ve made because we are entering a future for which our institutions, our politics and our culture are completely unprepared.

Swiss Gold and Rolex Gifts to Trump Arouse ‘Disgust’ in Europe

THE GUARDIAN: Billionaires gave desk clock and engraved gold bar weeks before Trump slashed tariffs on imports from Switzerland

A gold Rolex desk clock and a $130,000 engraved gold bar given to Donald Trump by a group of Swiss billionaires have raised questions in Europe and the US about the personalisation of US presidential power.

Pasquale Tridico, an Italian MEP and the former head of the country’s national institute for social security said he was “disgusted” by the golden charm offensive, made weeks before Trump decided to slash 39% tariffs on Swiss imports to 15%.

“This is really awful,” he said, claiming that it seemed to be a case of “making foreign policy the policy of individuals”.

Lisa Mazzone, the president of the Green party in Switzerland said the gifts appeared to show Trump’s “corrupt logic had poisoned the Swiss elite”.

“It is unacceptable that the federal council is relying on the help of an economic elite that represents private interests and lacks democratic legitimacy in its negotiations with the US president,” she added. » | Lisa O’Carroll in Brussels | Friday, November 21, 2025

Trump and Mamdani Form an Unlikely Alliance at White House Meeting

THE GUARDIAN: ‘We agreed a lot more than I would have thought,’ the US president said of his first face-to-face meeting with the New York mayor-elect

Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani, the New York City mayor-elect, walked out of their meeting on Friday afternoon with an unlikely alliance, agreeing to work together on housing, food prices and cost-of-living concerns that have defined both their political appeals to working-class voters.

“We agreed a lot more than I would have thought,” Trump said in the Oval Office, sometimes jumping in to shield Mamdani from aggressive questioning from the press.

The sit-down – which many had anticipated would be contentious, given months of intense rhetoric in which Trump branded Mamdani a “communist lunatic” – instead produced camaraderie, warm words and concrete pledges of cooperation between the Republican president and the self-described democratic socialist who secured a commanding electoral victory earlier at the beginning of November with over 50% of the vote.

“I feel very confident that he can do a very good job,” Trump said after the meeting, offering praise for his ideological opposite. “The better he does, the happier I am. I will say there’s no difference in party. There’s no difference in anything, and we’re going to be helping him to make everybody’s dream come true, having a strong and very safe New York.”

The president congratulated Mamdani on his mayoral victory, describing it as “an incredible race against smart people” – and the two politicians shook hands. » | Joseph Gedeon in Washington | Friday, November 21, 2025

Starmer Accuses ‘Spineless’ Farage of Failure to Tackle Racism in Reform Party

THE GUARDIAN: PM says Reform UK leader also has ‘questions to answer’ about alleged racist comments and chants when at school

Nigel Farage has been accused of being “spineless” by the prime minister and a “coward” by Dulwich college contemporaries over his response to allegations of racism.

Keir Starmer said the Reform UK leader had “questions to answer” about alleged comments and chants as a teenager that include songs about the Holocaust, and accusations of bullying towards minority ethnic schoolboys.

He added that Farage had a “track record” when it came to racism, pointing to his failure to discipline his fellow Reform MP Sarah Pochin after she complained about the number of black and brown people she saw in adverts.

Speaking to reporters on the way to the G20 summit in Johannesburg, Starmer said: “He needs to explain the comments, or alleged comments that were made, and he needs to do that as soon as possible. He hasn’t got a good track record in relation to this because Sarah Pochin, his MP, made some clearly racist comments and Nigel Farage has done absolutely nothing about it.”

He added: “The man is spineless. If that had been someone in my party, I’d have dealt with it straight away. He needs to explain the latest allegations, and whilst he’s at it, he needs to explain why he’s too spineless to take action in relation to what is obvious racism in the comments of his fellow MP. » | Daniel Boffey, Kiran Stacey in Johannesburg and Mark Blacklock | Friday, November 21, 2025
