Trump Lays Bare His Contempt for Europe in Blistering New National Security Plan

Saudi Arabia Will Sell You Alcohol Now, if You’re Rich Enough

THE NEW YORK TIMES: The conservative Islamic kingdom’s approach to social policy change is often silence and ambiguity. Legalizing alcohol has been no different.

Saudi Arabia has banned alcohol for more than 70 years, so when whispers spread that an unmarked store in Riyadh, the capital, was quietly selling whiskey and champagne to wealthy foreign residents, it did not take long for a queue of cars to form outside.

In recent weeks, the liquor store — previously open only to diplomats, who are exempt from the prohibition — has been selling to non-Muslim foreigners who hold an expensive “premium residency” permit, according to five customers interviewed by The New York Times.

Premium residency is a limited status, generally conferred on wealthy or highly educated foreigners who work for government-owned entities, or in strategic sectors like health care.

The customers, a mix of premium residents and diplomats, spoke on the condition of anonymity because of local sensitivities around the topic, and in some cases because they feared disrupting their newfound access to alcohol.

No public announcement has been made about a change in the conservative Islamic kingdom’s alcohol policy. But on a sunny morning this past week, I camped outside the Riyadh store and saw that business was brisk.

The beige complex containing the store resembled dozens of others in the city’s Diplomatic Quarter, a secluded neighborhood filled with embassies. The store was distinguished only by an enigmatic sign that read, “VAT EXEMPT GOODS FOR DIPLOMATS ONLY,” referring to value-added tax, which is similar to a sales tax.

A succession of high-end SUVs approached a metal gate, where a security guard peered at drivers’ IDs, deciding if they could pass. » | Vivian Nereim | Vivian Nereim reported from outside the only liquor store in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. | Saturday, December 6, 2025

Somali Immigrants “Garbage” Says Trump: MN Community Responds to Racist Rant and Immigration Sweeps

Dec 5, 2025 | Federal authorities are carrying out intensified operations this week in Minnesota as President Donald Trump escalates his attacks on the Somali community in the state. The administration halted green card and citizenship applications from Somalis and people from 18 other countries after last week's fatal shooting near the White House. During a recent Cabinet meeting, Trump went on a racist tirade against the Somali community, saying, "We don't want them in our country," and referring to Somali immigrants as "garbage." Minnesota has the largest Somali community in the United States, and the vast majority of the estimated 80,000 residents in the state are American citizens or legal permanent residents.

"We have seen vile things that the president has said, but in these moments, we need to come together and respond," says Jaylani Hussein, the executive director of CAIR-Minnesota. He also highlights the connections between Trump's targeting of the community and foreign policy. "If you demonize Muslims, then you can get away with killing Muslims abroad. This has always been the case, from the Afghanistan War to the Iraq War."

Trump Administration Says Europe Faces ‘Civilizational Erasure’

THE NEW YORK TIMES: America’s goal should be “to help Europe correct its current trajectory,” the administration said in its new National Security Strategy.

The Trump administration said on Friday that Europe is facing the “stark prospect of civilizational erasure” and pledged that the United States will support like-minded “patriotic” parties across the continent to prevent a future in which “certain NATO members will become majority non-European.”

The dark assessment of Europe’s future was released overnight as part of an annual update to the United States’ national security strategy around the world.

Without naming them directly, the document says the United States should support political parties in Europe that fight against migration and promote nationalism. That describes several right wing populist parties like Reform U.K. in Britain and the Alternative for Germany, known as the A.F.D., which has been classified as an extremist party by German intelligence services.

“In everything we do, we are putting America First,” Mr. Trump wrote in a foreword to the document, which he called a “road map to ensure that America remains the greatest and most successful nation in human history.”

In a section called “Promoting European Greatness,” the document offers a searing critique of America’s closest allies.

It warns that Europe is on a path to becoming “unrecognizable” because of migration policies that it claims are undermining the national identities of European countries. And it said that it should be the policy of the United States to help Europe “correct its current trajectory” over the course of the next several decades. » | Michael D. HOLY SMOKES All the Royals Who’ve Been Caught with a Sneaky Fag & How Meghan Markle Served ‘200’ Marijuana Joints at First Wedding

THE SUN: ROYAL family members are typically the picture of elegance, but there have been moments when they’ve been spotted doing a rather unroyal habit – smoking.

From Prince Harry to Meghan Markle, members of the famous family have been known to love a crafty fag, even if they have given up now.

This is despite the late Queen being strongly against the bad habit, particularly as her father, King George VI, died of lung cancer in 1952.

This was after three previous monarchs, George V, Edward VII and Edward VIII, all passed away from smoking-related illnesses.

Meanwhile, the Queen’s own sister Princess Margaret was known to smoke up to 60 cigarettes a day, which led to a lung operation in 1985.

Never afraid of speaking her mind, the party-loving royal refused to bow down to pressure from both doctors and members of her family to ditch smoking. However, it is reported she cut down to 30 a day, rather than 60, before her death in 2002.

King Charles is reportedly responsible for revoking the royal warrant for tobacco firm Gallaher in 1998.

But, which nicotine-loving royal family members have been known to love a smoke… » | Becky Pemberton | Wednesday, March 12, 2025

Thomas Markle Has Leg Amputated

THE TELEGRAPH: Duchess of Sussex’s father has three-hour operation after blood clot turned limb black

Thomas Markle has had his leg amputated, it has been reported. The Duchess of Sussex’s father, 81, underwent a three-hour operation to remove his left leg below the knee after it turned black as a result of a blood clot.

He had been taken to hospital on Tuesday after becoming ill at his home in the Philippines.

Thomas Markle Jnr, his son, told the Daily Mail: “I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a case of life or death.”

Despite a successful procedure, doctors are still worried about his condition, his son said.

He added: “One of his doctors said the next two or three days are critical. His left leg has been removed below the knee. They were worried about infection setting in – sepsis or gangrene. The flesh was black and dying.

“There was no option given. It was either ‘we have to operate now and remove the leg or he may die’. It was a life-threatening situation.” » | Tom McArdle | Friday, December 5, 2025

Holocaust Survivors Call on Nigel Farage to Apologise over Alleged Antisemitic Comments

THE GUARDIAN: Exclusive: Group’s open letter says Reform UK leader must take responsibility for behaviour as a schoolboy

A group of Holocaust survivors have demanded Nigel Farage tell the truth and apologise for the antisemitic comments that fellow pupils of Dulwich College allege he made toward Jewish pupils.

The Reform UK leader has said he never racially abused anyone with intent but may have engaged in “banter in a playground”.

But in a letter to Farage seen by the Guardian, the 11 survivors said: “As Holocaust survivors, we understand the danger of hateful words – because we have seen where such words lead.

“Let us be clear: praising Hitler, mocking gas chambers, or hurling racist abuse is not banter. Not in a playground. Not anywhere.

“When allegations arise about invoking Nazi attitudes toward Jewish children, the responsible response is honesty, reflection, and commitment to truth.

“So we ask you: did you say ‘Hitler was right’ and ‘gas them,’ mimicking gas chambers? Did you subject your classmates to antisemitic abuse?”

The survivors include Hedi Argent, who lost 27 members of her family in the Holocaust. Another member of the group, Simon Winston, was held in a ghetto before escaping in September 1942 and spending the rest of the war in hiding.

Another signatory is Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, who was sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau where she spent nearly a year. In October 1944, she was moved to Bergen-Belsen, where she was liberated by the British in April 1945. » | Henry Dyer and Daniel Boffey | Friday, December 5, 2025

Stricken Thomas Markle Rushed Into Intensive Care – Meghan Silent

Dec 3, 2025 | Thomas Markle, the 81-year-old father of Meghan Markle, has been rushed into intensive care after suffering a sudden medical emergency at his home in the Philippines.

According to his son, doctors warned that his life was in “imminent danger,” prompting an ambulance dash to a larger hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He is now in the ICU, with a second operation expected to address a blood clot.

His children, Thomas Jr and Samantha, have issued emotional updates, asking the world to keep their father in their thoughts and prayers as he faces a long and difficult recovery.

Thomas Markle has endured years of serious health battles, including two heart attacks and a major stroke in 2022 which left him temporarily unable to speak.

His fragile health has been compounded by the pain of his estrangement from Meghan and the emotional strain of recent years.

As Thomas continues to fight in hospital, his family say they remain hopeful — but deeply worried. …
