Universum History: Verbotenes Begehren - Meilensteine queerer Geschichte

How JD Vance Thinks About Power
THE NEW YORK TIMES: Mr. Vance has been blunt about wanting to break norms and test constitutional limits to execute his ideas: “We have to get pretty wild, pretty far out there.”
In September 2021, JD Vance offered two predictions about former President Donald J. Trump and one piece of advice.
Mr. Trump would run again in 2024, Mr. Vance said. He would win.
And when he did, Mr. Vance counseled, he needed the right people around him this time.
“Fire every single midlevel bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state, replace them with our people,” Mr. Vance said on a podcast.
He continued.
“Then when the courts stop you, stand before the country like Andrew Jackson did,” Mr. Vance said, citing a (possibly apocryphal) quotation long attributed to America’s seventh president, “and say: ‘The chief justice has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it.’” » | Matt Flegenheimer | Saturday, August 3, 2024

Far-Right Groups Clash with Police as Unrest Spreads Across UK
Aug 3, 2024 | Far-Right groups have clashed with police in cities across Britain during a fourth day of unrest.
In Manchester, fighting broke out in Piccadilly Gardens as officers drew their batons to move a crowd back. Some in the crowd shouted “get out”, “f--- off” and “who the f--- is Allah?” to a small group of young Muslim women who were led away for their own safety by police.
Footage on social media also appeared to show far-Right groups in Stoke throwing stones in the direction of police. Violent skirmishes have also broken out between rival groups in Belfast. More demonstrations are taking place in Liverpool, Hull and Portsmouth.

Who Are the Far-Right Groups Behind the U.K. Riots?
THE NEW YOTK TIMES: After a deadly stabbing at a children’s event in northwestern England, an array of online influencers, anti-Muslim extremists and fascist groups have stoked the unrest, experts say.
Violent unrest has erupted in several towns and cities in Britain in recent days, and the authorities are bracing for further disorder this weekend as far-right agitators plan more rallies around the country.
The violence has been driven by online disinformation and extremist right-wing groups intent on creating disorder after a deadly knife attack on a children’s event in northwestern England, experts said.
A disparate range of far-right factions and individuals, including neo-Nazis, violence-prone soccer fans and anti-Muslim campaigners, have promoted and taken part in the unrest, which has also been stoked by online influencers.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has vowed to deploy additional police officers to crack down on the disorder. “This is not a protest that has got out of hand,” he said on Thursday. “It is a group of individuals who are absolutely bent on violence.”

Rob Groves – Truth To Power: Are Labour Really Plotting to Undo Brexit?
Aug 3, 2024 | Removing the two-child cap on Universal Credit and social security in the UK would cost the government 2.5 billion pounds this year according to the Resolution Foundation. And would alleviate deep poverty for over a million children. But we’re told that we can’t afford 2.5 billion pounds. Apparently, however, we CAN afford Brexit, which costs the UK 32 billion pounds a year, according to the Office of Budget Responsibility!
It’s so obvious that the Labour government needs to ditch Brexit, which is proving to be a drag anchor on the British economy. But is it likely to happen, and what would the process look like?
