HUNGRY MAN KITCHEN: “Easy Homemade Tahini and My Favourite Hummus Recipe”

July 28, 2021 | Did you know that it takes only two simple ingredients to make your own homemade tahini? Also imagine a homemade hummus made with your own tahini with no additives and as fresh as it can get!

Tahini or tahina is a Middle Eastern condiment made from sesame. It can be served by itself as a dip or as a major ingredient in various dishes and mezze such as hummus, baba ghanoush and halva. It's also perfect to combine with grape molasses which is a staple in a traditional Turkish breakfast.

Hummus, also a very popular dip or mezze throughout the world, is widely available in supermarkets. However, homemade hummus without any additives is always my favourite. I never buy hummus anymore since it's so easy to make; it takes only minutes. Even better and even more satisfying is if you make it with a homemade tahini!

Let's see how you can make tahini and hummus at home, the best you have ever had!

Traditional Palestinian Hummus | حمص فلسطيني تقليدي

Hummus is arguably one of the most iconic dishes to come out of the Levant. It’s creamy, it’s got a touch of lemon and garlic, it’s filling, and it’s just one of several mezze dishes we have.

In Arabic, hummus just means chickpeas. So sometimes when we say hummus we’re talking about the dip I’m sharing today and sometimes we’re talking about the chickpea itself - it really just depends on the context.

I’m a traditionalist. I love to learn the true recipes as they were intended to be made before I start playing around with new flavors, or ideas. It’s the best way to establish a strong foundation.

Overall, hummus is a very easy dish to make but one note is that technique and patience matter. If you try to rush this, you won’t get the result you’re looking for. So, take your time, be patient, and I promise you’ll make an incredible batch of hummus every single time.

YNET NEWS: Country's Industrialists Association says Jewish state trying to claim ownership of traditional Lebanese delicacies like tabouleh and hummus, plans international food-related suit

Lebanon is planning on filing an international law suit against Israel for violating a food copyright, Fadi Abboud, president of the Lebanese Industrialists Association, told the al-Arabiya network.

The Lebanese claim is that Israel markets original Lebanese food like tabouleh, kubbeh, hummus, falafel and fattoush which the Lebanese considered their trademarks prior to the establishment of the Jewish state.

Abboud explained that the fact that Israel has been marketing Lebanese delicacies under the same names and ingredients around the world has caused great losses to Lebanon, and that while, “the full extent is unknown, it is estimated at tens of millions of dollars annually.” Lebanon: Israel Stole Our Falafel >>> Roee Nahmias | October 6, 2008
