Ludovic-Mohamed Zahed trained as an imam in Algeria. In his homeland he didn’t dare talk about being gay. It was only in Marseille, France that he came out. Zahed is the founder of France's first inclusive mosque and the CALEM Institute in Marseille, where he trains new imams in a more progressive Islam. Same-sex marriages are taboo in Islam, but Zahed wants to break new ground. He’s not afraid to circumvent this taboo and bless the marriages of LGBTQ couples. May 3, 2020 | Unsere Reportage begleitet drei junge Menschen, die sich entschlossen haben, sich nicht mehr zu verstecken, sondern offen schwul und gläubig zu sein.

Vorbehalte, Ressentiments oder Ausschluss aus der Religionsgemeinschaft – diesen Problemen müssen sich gläubige Schwule stellen, wenn sie sich outen. Wie vereinbaren homosexuelle Christen, Juden und Muslime in Deutschland ihren Glauben und ihre sexuelle Ausrichtung in oft repressiven und konservativen Religionsgemeinschaften? Wie kämpfen sie für Anerkennung und Gleichberechtigung?

Die Reportage, gedreht 2019, erzählt die Geschichte dreier junger Menschen, die sich entschieden haben, Glauben und Homosexualität nicht mehr als Widerspruch und unvereinbar hinzunehmen. Alle drei sind Mitbegründer von Selbsthilfegruppen, die Betroffenen ein Sicherheitsnetz geben. Sie zelebrieren gemeinsam ihre Feiertage, leisten Aufklärungsarbeit, scheuen keine Konflikte und suchen selbst den Dialog zu konservativen Gläubigen.

Leo ist Mitbegründer von ‚Keshet‘, dem ersten queeren jüdischen Verein in Deutschland. Auf einer Tagung der jüdischen Gemeinden in Deutschland vertritt er als Pionier zum ersten Mal die jüdische LGBTQ-Gemeinde.

Tugay kämpft für die Rechte queerer Muslime – und wird deshalb bedroht. In der liberalen Ibn-Rushd-Goethe-Moschee in Berlin betet er nicht nur, sondern verfechtet sogar in einer Predigt das Recht, als Muslim lieben zu können, wen er will.

Timo brach aus der Enge seiner Wuppertaler Freikirche aus, in der er aufwuchs. Er veröffentlichte das Buch „Nicht mehr Schweigen“, in dem er queere Christen und Christinnen jeder Glaubensrichtung zu Wort kommen lässt. In seinen Lesungen trifft er auf Empathie, aber auch auf Skepsis und Kritik.

Diese Dokumentation ist so gut und so wichtig, daß ich sie noch einmal veröffentlichen möchte, obwohl ich sie schon mehrmals vorher veröffentlicht habe.

Es ist wirklich erstaunend, daß auch in 2023, in Europa sogar, es noch ein Problem ist für einen Mann einen anderen Mann zart zu haben und ihn zu lieben. Woher kommen diese Vorurteile außer von Religionen?

Es nimmt mich wunder, daß es so viele perfekte, fromme Leute gibt in der heutigen Zeit, die glauben im Namen Gottes, das Leben von anderen kritisieren zu dürfen, auch wenn sie selbst selten in die Kirche gehen und wenn die Kirchen überall in Europa fast leer sind! The Escalating Frequency of Quran Burnings in Sweden and Denmark Sparks Outrage in the Muslim World

Sep 4, 2023 | The burning of the Quran in Denmark and Sweden has raised security concerns both domestically and internationally for the traditionally secular Nordic nations. Denmark has recently suggested a ban on burning all sacred texts. Could this move by Copenhagen be a solution that balances the preservation of freedom of speech while also addressing security and diplomatic challenges?

That Denmark is re-introducing a form of blasphemy law to deal with these Quran burnings is as insane as it is outrageous. This will put Denmark, once a bastion of enlightened liberal values, on a fast track to the ‘New Dark Age’ I wrote of so many years ago!

It is not difficult to understand WHY the Danish government may conclude that this is the right political decision; but it is NOT. The re-introduction of ANY form of blasphemy law is WRONG. And it is wrong in so many ways and for so many reasons.

The blasphemy law in Denmark has only relatively recently been repealed. I am pretty sure that it was never, if ever, used by the Danish Christian community. But here, we are dealing with a very different community! The Muslim community will take every opportunity to use this law against any perceived transgressor. Be sure of one thing, Denmark: The Danish courts will used by Muslims to help firmly establish Islam’s hoped-for supremacy in the country.

By re-introducing a rejigged blasphemy law into the nation’s statute books, Denmark is embarking on a new journey on a very slippery and dangerous road.

Kann Feminismus islamisch sein? Die Rolle der Frau im Islam löst immer wieder Kontroversen aus. Ist das Kopftuch wirklich ein klares Zeichen der Unterdrückung? Erlaubt der Koran den Männern, über Frauen zu bestimmen und sie zu schlagen? Steht ein modernes Frauenbild im Gegensatz zu den Texten des Korans? Muss sich eine Frau also entscheiden, ob sie gläubige Muslimin oder selbstbestimmte Feministin sein will? Regisseurin Nadja Frenz taucht in diesen Diskurs ein und liefert überraschende Erkenntnisse, abseits gängiger Vorurteile. Der Islam und die Frauen – eine Beziehung, die nach vielen hundert Jahren männlicher Interpretation neu definiert werden muss.

La tradition musulmane, en effet, veut que le chef de famille, en souvenir d'Abraham, sacrifie un mouton selon un rituel «halal». Tourné vers La Mecque, l'agneau est entaillé à la gorge et vidé de son sang.

Mais tant pour garantir la salubrité de la viande que le bien-être des animaux, l'abattage rituel a été progressivement encadré. Pour se fournir en mouton halal, les boucheries et particuliers doivent se tourner vers la trentaine d'abattoirs agréés, autorisés de façon temporaire pour la période de la fête à déroger à l'étourdissement des animaux. „Stoppt den radikalen Islam!“ | Hamed Abdel-Samad bei Viertel nach Acht

Jan 18, 2023 | „Die islamistische Welt wagt den Bruch mit der eigenen Vergangenheit bis heute nicht und wurde dazu von außen auch nie wirklich gezwungen. Sie hielt am Islam als Religion und Staat in einem fest, weil sie darin immer noch die einzige Quelle für die eigene Identität und den einzigen Weg für Erlösung im Jenseits sieht. Für gläubige Muslime, die in der Religion spirituellen Halt finden, sich aber nach einem Leben frei von Dogmen und Bevormundung etwa durch die Scharia sehnen, ist das ein großes Problem. Denn im Islam ist Religion eben nicht Privatsache. Der Wunsch nach Freiheit wird sanktioniert – von Religionswächtern, selbst ernannten Scharia-Polizisten, der eigenen Familie, der Community.

Auch deshalb gibt es in Europa bei der Integration von Muslimen deutlich mehr Probleme als mit anderen Einwanderungs- Gruppen. In Deutschland und in Europa leben viele Millionen friedliche Muslime, die nichts für das können, was islamistische Bewegungen im Schilde führen. Es ist wichtig, diese Muslime als loyale Staatsbürger zu gewinnen, sie nicht als Fremde zu behandeln und sie sowohl vor Diskriminierung und Rassismus als auch vor der Ideologie des Islamismus zu schützen. Das gelingt nur durch Bildung, Aufklärung und kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe. Diese Muslime sollte man fördern und jene bekämpfen, die im Namen ihrer Religion politisch Einfluss zu gewinnen suchen und eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Islam mit Rassismus gleichsetzen. Die wirtschaftlichen Interessen Europas, die Emotionalität, mit der die Diskussion über den Islam geführt wird – wenn sie denn überhaupt geführt wird –, und die Hartnäckigkeit des politischen Islam erschweren diese Aufgabe. Europäische Politiker meinen, die Muslime müssten diese Reformen selbst durchführen und dürften nicht von außen dazu gedrängt werden. Diese Einstellung ist im Grunde richtig, doch die Politik hält sich nicht an ihr Neutralitätsgebot. Denn nicht die Reformer werden hier gefördert, sondern die reaktionären Kräfte, deren Projekte im Namen der Toleranz und Vielfalt teils sogar finanziert werden. Offen reaktionären Kräften kann man entgegentreten, bei verdeckt Operierenden ist das weitaus schwieriger. Umso wichtiger wäre es, sich mit Netzwerken zu befassen und deren Wurzeln offenzulegen und gleichzeitig Reformer und Kritiker anzuhören, anstatt sie zu diskreditieren. Damit spielt man nur dem Islamismus in die Hände. Ein erster Schritt wäre, wenn sich Europa offen zu den eigenen Werten bekennen und sie verteidigen würde!“

The Young Muslims Challenging Islam’s Status Quo

THE NEW YORK TIMES: A conservative religious movement, spread through social media, has taken hold among Indonesian youth. The government wants to curb its influence.

A boy band belted out songs about loving the Prophet Muhammad. A young woman wearing a full-face veil was moved to tears by the faith of new converts. Later, the crowd applauded as a 15-year-old girl converted to Islam before their eyes. Many posted selfies on social media, delighting in their shared faith.

The scene was an annual festival in Padang, part of a new conservative Islamic movement in Indonesia known as Hijrah that is attracting millions of believers, many of them young and drawn by celebrity preachers on Instagram.

Islamic conservatism has been on the rise in Indonesia for years, even as the government has long tried to maintain a secular, religiously diverse society. The current iteration in the Hijrah movement is distinct in its use of social media to spread the word, and in its appeal to the young. Keep on criminalizing all of life’s pleasures as Indonesia has just done and you will find many more sensible Muslims leaving Islam along with all the others.

One of the problems with Islam is that it is stuck in the past; another, is that all is permissible behind high four walls. Do what the hell you like, just don’t get caught in flagrante delicto. Islam is a religion which encourages hypocrisy. Drink all the Johnnie Walker Black Label or Absolut. vodka you want, engage in gay love. Do what the hell you like. But whatever you do, don’t, for heaven’s sake, get caught in the act!

Back in the day, when I worked in the Middle East, I saw more Johnnie Walker Black Label in Saudi Arabia than I had ever seen in the West! (Or since.) In Saudi, those who wish to procure scotch don’t buy it by the bottle, but by the case! Twelve bottles at a time! Such is life under the Shari’ah! Two adult men falling in love and conducting a gay relationship is an offence worthy of execution in many Islamic countries. But they are cool with old men falling in love with young girls! For example, in Iran, a young girl can marry at the tender age of thirteen; and she can marry an old man, too! No worries! But in the very same country, two gay adult, conselnting men are killed. And they call such a system a theocracy. Who the hell would wish to pray to that god? Try and make sense of it all!

Of course our politicians, all of whom lack courage, are bereft of balls, and are more interested in money and contracts. They do and say nothing about these appalling hypocritical inconsistencies. But then, what can we expect? Money and power corrupts. – © Mark Alexander
