Kemi Badenoch Elected New Conservative Party Leader

Nov 2, 2024 | Former trade secretary Kemi Badenoch has been elected to lead the Conservative Party after a four-month-long race to replace former prime minister Rishi Sunak.

If I am not greatly mistaken, the Conservative Party has just hammered the final nail into its own coffin! Conservatives can now write their own epitaph, too!

My visitors will know that I have been saying for years now — ever since that ridiculous Brexit and that succession of duds as leaders — that the Tories were going the way of the Whigs before them: into oblivion. I have also written that they will soon be as dead as the dodo. It appears that my words are coming true quicker than even I could have imagined. – © Mark Alexander

‘Badenoch Is a Thatcher for Our Times’: [Telegraph] Readers on Who Should Be the Next Tory Leader

THE TELEGRAPH: Telegraph subscribers weigh in on who they think should take charge of the Conservative Party

Kemi Badenoch should be the next leader of the Conservative Party, 67pc of over 66,000 Telegraph readers say | Screenshot from The Telegraph

Kemi Badenoch and Robert Jenrick have made it to the final two in the Tory leadership contest after James Cleverly was eliminated from the race.

The result came as a surprise not only in Westminster, but also among readers of The Telegraph after Mr Cleverly came first in Tuesday’s vote.

Many readers were pleased with the result, believing it to be a hopeful sign that the party is moving in the right direction. » | Thursday, October 10, 2024

That the readers of the Telegraph are comparing Badenoch to Thatcher must be causing Thatcher to be turning in her grave! Ignore them Baroness Thatcher! They know not what they say! Requiescat in pace.

Clearly, the Tory Party is drawing its last few breaths. It is surely on its way to extinction. Extinction was the fate of the Whigs; it will soon be the fate of the Tories. Death is often preceded by a few movements here and there, but then the lights go out — forever. Thank you for the good times of yore.

This is the face of modern Britain. The minorities are seizing all power in the country. To get anywhere in politics in Britain today, you must be either black, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or someone from another ethnic group. The Conservative Party has gone all queer! It’s not a bit like it used to be. It used to be very proper and extremely staid. Funnily enough, though, it’s a queer party, but it has never had a queer leader. Not one that was out and openly queer anyway.

God only knows where the next leader after this one will come from. Nothing would surprise me. Maybe a future contender in the next leadership race will be an Eskimo. – © Mark Alexander

The New Tory Leader Will Be Badenoch or Jenrick. Either Would Be a One-way Ticket to Another Political Planet

THE GUARDIAN: By rejecting James Cleverly, MPs spurned the chance to renew their party. Their chosen path is further right, a blow for all who want an effective opposition

So the final Tory run-off, whose result will be announced on 2 November, will be between Kemi Badenoch and Robert Jenrick. The one who thinks there’s too much maternity pay and that 10% of civil servants should be in prison, versus the one who alleges that UK special forces are killing suspects rather than arresting them and who promises to withdraw from the European human rights system as a priority.

There are no two ways about reading the result of the fourth and final round of voting by the 121 surviving Conservative MPs at Westminster today. It marks a triumph for the Tory right and another existential crisis moment for a party that was battered into a record election defeat in July. With this vote, Tory MPs have bought their party a one-way ticket to another political planet. » | Martin Kettle | Wednesday, October 9, 2024

The Conservatives did themselves in with that ridiculous Brexit referendum. My regular visitors will know that I have said over and over and over again that the Conservatives will go the way of the dodo and the Whigs before them. I firmly believe that this leadership race has proved me right. The four contenders were/are duds: not of them had/has good policies and not one of them had/has charisma.

Once upon a time, the Conservative Party was synonymous with class, intellectual superiority, character, and at least a modicum of style. Those days are well and truly over. The choice of leaders on offer has been nothing other than Hobson's choice. The Party is dead. Just as I stated — as dead as the dodo. Short of a miracle that could breathe life back into the Party, the party for the Tory Party is well and truly over. R.I.P. – © Mark Alexander

Jon Danzig: True Tories Were Remainers

October 2, 2024 | Conservative leader wannabes: have you forgotten what your party in power used to stand for regarding Europe? For most of the past seven decades, Tory governments did more than any other to bring our country closer to our continent.

Current Tory leader hopefuls are tw*ts! (Supply the vowel of your choice!) Britain’s place is in the EU. Churchill would be absolutely appalled by these current Tory wannabees! What a pathetic bunch! We are Europeans. Suck it up! – © Mark Alexander

Peter Stefanovic: Jenrick’s Latest Propaganda Video Is Absurd, Inflammatory & Divisive. Hold onto Your Seats

Oct 1, 2024

Brexit has done the Tories in! Their fate is that of the Whigs and the dodo before them. There appears to be no coming back from this debacle. The Tories are a spent force. It’s Brexit “what done it”! Serves the tw*ts right! (Please use the vowel of your own choosing!)

So now we are lumbered with Starmer’s far-left administration: an administration determined to strip us Brits of our freedom of speech and many other rights and freedoms as well. My God! What a mess this post-Brexit country is in! Soon, a Brit won’t be able to smoke a cigarette in a beer garden, or say the truth about Islam! — © Mark Alexander

The Importance of Conservatives Bolstering the Traditional Family

MARK ALEXANDER: Conservatives abandoned the traditional family years ago. No society can be strong if the traditional family unit is not encouraged. The indigenous population in this country is short of babies; immigrant families are generally not short of them. It is easy to see why Islam is growing apace in this country.

Feminism has a lot to answer for. When women started preferring the workplace over the home, where they can procreate, this country started going downhill. No society can thrive when childlessness is preferred over motherhood.

A sensible Conservative government should pull all the stops out to help and promote the traditional family unit — a unit in which children can be raised properly and well at home, not in kindergartens by strangers.

The proper education of a child is two-pronged: formal and informal. Formal education is what a child gets in schools, colleges, and universities; informal education is what a child gets in the home from the parents. Children these days, because of working mothers and absent fathers, generally lack informal education. Informal education is extremely important for the development of the child.

If we want a properly functioning society, it behoves the Conservatives to foster traditional families and traditional family values. This is true not only for us in the UK but also for the West in general. If something isn’t done about this soon, the West will be lost — to Islam, the way of life which respects the traditional family. The West needs its own babies not more productivity from working mothers. The choice is yours!

Kemi Badenoch Accused of ‘Bullying and Traumatising’ Staff

THE GUARDIAN: Exclusive: At least three department officials allegedly felt pushed out by MP’s behaviour as business secretary

Kemi Badenoch, the frontrunner to be the next Conservative party leader, has been accused of creating an intimidating atmosphere in the government department she used to run, with some colleagues describing it as toxic, the Guardian can reveal.

At least three officials found her behaviour so traumatising that they felt they had no other choice but to leave, sources claimed.

Morale was said to be so low in the Department for Business and Trade last year that senior officials thought it necessary to address concerns about the working culture during an official “town hall” meeting. This was attended by about 70 staff in person and online on 13 December 2023. » | Pippa Crerar, Political editor | Tuesday, July 30, 2024

Failed Rwanda Deportation Scheme Cost £700m, Says Yvette Cooper

THE GUARDIAN: Home secretary describes Tory policy that Labour has axed as ‘the biggest waste of taxpayer money I have ever seen’

The Conservative government spent £700m of taxpayers’ money on the failed Rwanda deportation scheme, which has proved to be a “costly con”, the home secretary has said.

Yvette Cooper described the policy, which was introduced two-and-a-half years ago and sought to send UK asylum seekers to Rwanda for processing, as “the biggest waste of taxpayer money I have ever seen”.

She told the Commons that over the course of six years ministers had intended to spend £10bn on the policy, but they never divulged this figure to parliament.

The home secretary said she had formally notified the Rwandan government that the partnership was over and thanked them for working with the UK “in good faith”.

“The failure of this policy lies with the previous UK government, it has been a costly con and the taxpayer has had to pay the price,” she said. (+ video) » | Eleni Courea, Political correspondent | Monday, July 22, 2024

Tories Running Out of Time to Fix Their Broken Party

Jul 7, 2024 | "I don't think they have years this time." Compared to the Labour landslide in 1997 where Conservatives took years of scrambling to reunite, the party no longer has that flexibility.

Liz Truss Caps List of High-Profile Conservative Seat Losses

THE NEW YORK TIMES: Ms. Truss, who was forced out as prime minister after 49 chaotic days, lost by 630 votes in a district she previously held by more than 26,000.

Liz Truss, the former Conservative Party prime minister, lost her seat Friday morning. Following a chaotic 49-day premiership in 2022, which sent mortgage rates soaring, the pound tumbling and required an intervention by the central bank to calm markets, she has been ousted from Parliament.

Five years ago, she won a majority of more than 26,000. This time, she lost by 630 votes, a huge swing in support to the Labour Party.

She told the BBC that the reason the Conservatives lost was because “we haven’t delivered sufficiently on the policies people want,” such as keeping taxes low and reducing immigration. She said she agreed that she was part of the group in power that had failed to deliver these changes but laid the blame on the inheritance the party received in 2010, not herself.

“During our 14 years in power, unfortunately, we did not do enough to take on the legacy we’d been left,” she said.

But Ms. Truss is just one of many prominent Conservative lawmakers to lose their seats, including recent members of the cabinet. Others include: » | Eshe Nelson, Reporting from London | Friday, July 5, 2024

Michael Lambert: Let Us Never Forget the Damage These Tories Have Done to This Country

Jul 3, 2024 | Over the past eight years since 2016 the UK economy and society have been severely damaged and may never fully recover following the madness of Brexit.

Incompetence, dishonesty, and corruption have all featured in a series of governments under five different prime ministers. Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage bear the greatest responsibility for the extreme damage which the UK has suffered. A series of incompetent and often self-serving politicians have caused the UK economy to decline and for the country to have become a worldwide laughing stock.

Those responsible should never be forgotten or forgiven including Rishi Sunak, Suella Braverman, Priti Patel, Kemi Badenoch, Robert Jenrick, and many others.

Jacob Rees-Mogg Tells Young Tories Party Has ‘Lost Its Way’

THE GUARDIAN: Exclusive: Leaked recording of ex-minister lays bare despondency at high levels of Conservative party

A screenshot from this article in today's Guardian.

The Conservatives have lost their way after 14 years in government, Jacob Rees-Mogg has said, in a leaked recording of a meeting with young Tories that lays bare the despondency at high levels of the party.

The former business secretary told young activists at a meeting in March he felt the party had squandered its opportunity to achieve anything substantial in the last five years, having won a majority in 2019. » | Kiran Stacey Political correspondent | Sunday, June 30, 2024

The 14 Long and Wasted Years of Tory Britain

THE OBSERVER: Before the Conservatives were elected in 2010, David Cameron set out his vision of a prosperous, secure country that would care for all. On every metric, by every yardstick, his party has failed

Some neuroscientists describe it as Life Review. It’s the term they give to those slow-motion instants – after your car hits the black ice but before its impact with the oncoming juggernaut – in which TikTok clips of your whole past are played in front of your eyes. Some argue that the phenomenon is the result of a massive overdose of the flight or fight response, which triggers the brain’s darkest memories and defining emotions all at once. Others, fancifully, that it is evidence of the spirit packing its bags for the life hereafter.

You’d have to say that the sickening squeal of brakes that attends the impending car crash of the Conservative party lends weight to the first of those theories. » |Tim Adams | Sunday, June 30, 2024

Michael Lambert: The Tories Have Wrecked the UK in Pursuit of Brexit

Jun 29, 2024 | The past eight years of Conservative government have been disastrous for the UK. Since 2016 and the #referendum vote to leave the EU, five prime ministers have struggled to run the country, wasting billions through incompetence and dishonesty often blaming failure on Covid19 and Vladimir Putin.

Nigel Farage as an MEP spent years arguing for Britain's withdrawal from the EU and Boris Johnson as prime minister agreed to a very hard Brexit.

Eight years after the referendum, the UK economy is in a very bad state and is rapidly deteriorating. Nurses, doctors, teachers, police officers, and others, are leaving their jobs and many are emigrating. Nothing seems to work, and Brexit has cost the UK more than £100 billion in lost trade and £40 billion in lost taxes.

Gone from being a well-respected medium-sized nation with a reasonable and stable economy, the UK is now an economic disaster and a worldwide laughing stock.

Next week Keir Starmer and the Labour party are widely expected to be elected with a large majority.

Tories ‘Never Really Recovered from Brexit’ and Left Them ‘Divided’ | Andrew Neil

Jun 25, 2024 | "It divided them, drained them of energy, diverted them from getting on with other things." Andrew Neil says the Conservative party "never really recovered from Brexit" and are still dealing with its consequences during this election campaign.

As my regular visitors will know, I have been saying since the very beginning that, because of Brexit, the Tories deserve to go into oblivion, and in all probably will end up there too, just like the Whigs before them.

The Tories deserve nothing less than the fate of the dodo for their destruction of the UK economy, their creation os such poverty, and their destruction of UK communities, and their creation of a ‘them and us’ culture — a culture of the haves and have-nots, with the haves being able to reach for the stars and the have-nots being thrown into the abyss. – © Mark Alexander

I Went Looking for the Few Remaining Tory Voters. They Don’t Want Farage, but They Don’t Want Sunak either

THE GUARDIAN – OPINION: Even lifelong Conservative voters seem tired of the Tories. Signs are pointing to a total party collapse

Who are the people who will still vote Tory? True, there are not many left, but a solid core of 20% of the population will opt for more of the same, the lowest percentage in polling history, says Prof John Curtice. That many still seem willing to re-elect those who did such national damage is, to put it politely, perplexing.

Do they really back the exceptionally mean-spirited and squalid bribery of their party’s prospectus? Well, the great majority have better things to do than read manifestos. But go out and talk to ordinary Tory voters and you find their state of mind out of tune with their party’s hierarchy. That’s why most traditional Tories have fled, ignored by the manifesto writers who press on with deeper cuts to collapsing public services, adding to the 4.3 million children going hungry. » | Polly Toynbee | Tuesday, June 18, 2024

Any party that allows children to be raised in poverty, regardless of the party’s political stripe or hue, deserves to go the way of the dodo. There is absolutely no excuse for allowing the nation’s children to go hungry in this day and age. None whatsoever! If the Tories are able to look after their superrich buddies and chums — and they have a long history of doing that — then they are jolly well able to look after the nation’s children, too. The time has come for the Tories to be taught a painful lesson! — © Mark Alexander
