Michael Lambert: The Real Reason Nigel Farage Will Never Be Prime Minister.

Nov 1, 2025 | In this video I explain the real reason Nigel Farage will never be Prime Minister: his record of missed votes, misuse of EU funds, undeclared gifts, and a career built more on outrage than achievement.

From UKIP to Brexit to Reform UK, Farage has always been a brilliant disruptor — but never a builder. Britain doesn’t need another showman; it needs leadership.

Watch to the end to see how his ambition and ego have done more harm than good to British politics.

Michael Lambert's video has made my day! The mere thought of Farage becoming the PM sends me into despair. Farage would not only ruin the NHS, he would also do untold damage to state pensions. Ultimately, he would probably scrap them. Emulating the US healthcare system is the very last thing this country needs. As it happens, I have a great deal of experience with the US healthcare system because my late partner was an American and died in 2016, having been treated in the last years of life for two very serious illnesses. I was the one who dealt with the consultants, other doctors, and nurses. The whole American healthcare system is profit-driven. Enough said. I'm sure that Hippocrates must be turning in his grave! Reform UK in general has nothing but pain to offer us Britons. Nigel Farage in particular has no sensible answers to make the nation prosperous again. In fact, as Michael Lambert rightly points out in this excellent video, Nigel Farage is one of the main architects of Brexit, and we all know what a disaster that has been and how it has impoverished the nation. — © Mark Alexander

Are We Losing Our Democracy?

THE NEW TORK TIMES: Countries that slide from democracy toward autocracy tend to follow similar patterns. To measure what is happening in the United States, the Times editorial board has compiled a list of 12 markers of democratic erosion, with help from scholars who have studied this phenomenon. The sobering reality is that the United States has regressed, to different degrees, on all 12.

Our country is still not close to being a true autocracy, in the mold of Russia or China. But once countries begin taking steps away from democracy, the march often continues. We offer these 12 markers as a warning of how much Americans have already lost and how much more we still could lose. » | The Editorial Board | The editorial board is a group of opinion journalists whose views are informed by expertise, research, debate and certain longstanding values. What Would You Do If Democracy Was Being Dismantled Before Your Eyes? Whatever You’re Doing Right Now

THE GUARDIAN — OPINION: In California, daily life under Trump is marked by sporadic resistance and avoidance. Neither will defeat the autocrats

How would you behave if your democracy was being dismantled? In most western countries, that used to be an academic question. Societies where this process had happened, such as Germany in the 1930s, seemed increasingly distant. The contrasting ways that people reacted to authoritarianism and autocracy, both politically and in their everyday lives, while darkly fascinating and important to study and remember, seemed of diminishing relevance to now.

Not any more. Illiberal populism has spread across the world, either challenging for power or entrenching itself in office, from Argentina to Italy, France to Indonesia, Hungary to Britain. But probably the most significant example of a relatively free, pluralist society and political system turning into something very different remains the US, now nine months into Donald Trump’s second term. » | Andy Becket | Friday, October 31, 2025

Liberal-progressive Party D66 Wins Election, Dutch Media Report

THE GUARDIAN: Party will take lead in first round of talks to form coalition government after securing most votes

The Dutch liberal-progressive party D66 won the most votes in Wednesday’s general election, the news agency ANP has reported, putting its 38-year-old leader, Rob Jetten, on course to become the youngest prime minister in the Netherlands.

While the last few thousand votes are still being counted, Dutch media reported on Friday that Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration, anti-Islam Party for Freedom (PVV) could no longer win.

D66 is now expected to take the lead in a first round of talks to form a coalition government, a process that usually takes months. » | Senay Boztas in Amsterdam | Friday, October 31, 2025
