BREAKING: Ex-Abercrombie & Finch CEO Mike Jeffries Arrested on Sex Trafficking Charges | BBC News

Oct 22, 2024 | The former CEO of fashion giant Abercrombie & Fitch (A&F) and his British partner have been arrested and are facing sex trafficking charges. Mike Jeffries, his partner Matthew Smith, and the couple’s alleged middleman were arrested on Tuesday morning.

The FBI and prosecutor's office have given a press conference explaining the details of the charges. Lawyers for Mr Jeffries and Mr Smith have both previously denied any wrongdoing by both men. Responding to the latest news, Mr Jeffries' lawyer told the BBC: "We will respond in detail to the allegations after the Indictment is unsealed, and when appropriate, but plan to do so in the courthouse – not the media." A lawyer for Mr Smith has been approached for new comment. A&F declined to comment on the latest developments.

The FBI opened an investigation last year after the BBC revealed claims that Mike Jeffries and his partner sexually exploited and abused men at events they hosted in their New York residences and hotels around the world.

A BBC investigation found there was a sophisticated operation involving a middleman and network of recruiters tasked with recruiting men for the events. Following the BBC’s reporting, a civil lawsuit was filed in New York accusing Mr Jeffries and Mr Smith of sex-trafficking, rape and sexual assault.

On the Ibiza party scene, many revellers are hardly strangers to recreational drug use. But this summer, they were warned to take heed: a dangerous new party drug was emerging, the use of which was compared to playing Russian roulette.

Has “pink cocaine”, as it is known, now claimed its first high-profile victim? A post-mortem examination has reportedly found that Liam Payne, the former One Direction star, had it in his system when he fell to his death from his hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires on Oct 16. It is too soon to know if the fatal incident was attributable to the drug, but its potentially grave effects are already known.

In fact, pink cocaine is not one drug but a powdery cocktail, or pill, often including MDMA, ketamine and methamphetamine. Samples have also been found to include cocaine and opioids. Despite its name, cocaine is not necessarily part of the mix. Two Trains Collide in Wales Leaving One Person Dead and 15 Injured

THE GUARDIAN: Crash in Powys occurred on single-track section near passing loop, with one train apparently unable to stop

A rail passenger died and 15 people were being treated for injuries in hospital after two trains collided on a rural line in mid-Wales on Monday evening.

Witnesses described how people were thrown to the floor of a train and pictures of the scene showed part of one of the carriages crumpled in the impact.

Investigators were at the scene near the village of Llanbrynmair in Powys on Tuesday morning to try to establish why the trains had collided on the line, a single-track section.

The incident took place close to a passing loop on the largely single-track Cambrian line, where one train should stop and the other proceeds at low speed on a small loop of track. Konsumiert wird die Droge in vielen Städten, mitten in der Öffentlichkeit. In Deutschland fühlen sich Anwohner*innen von der Politik im Stich gelassen, während die Schweiz neue Wege in der Drogenpolitik beschreitet.

Noé Gonzales lebt mit seiner Familie in der Nähe des Leopoldplatzes im Berliner Stadtteil Wedding. In den letzten Jahren hat sich der Platz zu einem Hotspot der Crack-Szene entwickelt. Zum Leidwesen der Nachbarschaft, denn viele suchtkranke Menschen konsumieren die Droge in Hauseingängen. Schon oft musste Noé Gonzales Menschen auffordern das Treppenhaus zu verlassen, die zum Crack-Rauchen, Schlafen oder Dealen gekommen waren. Ronald Schneider arbeitet seit 30 Jahren in der Suchthilfe und leitet eine Hilfseinrichtung im Frankfurter Bahnhofsviertel. Dort konsumieren bis zu 400 Menschen Tag für Tag unter freiem Himmel.

Ronald Schneider und seine Kolleginnen und Kollegen versuchen mit zwei Rauchräumen Abhilfe zu schaffen. Doch der wachsende Crack-Konsum macht dem Leiter der Einrichtung Sorgen. Die Wirkung hält nur wenige Sekunden an und die Betroffenen ziehen rastlos umher, auf der Suche nach der nächsten Dosis. Wie bekommt man sie von der Straße?

In Zürich setzt man auf ein besonderes Konzept. Kim Hauser ist ein Crack-User der ersten Stunde. Er gehört zu den rund 1.000 Konsumenten, die regelmäßig drei Kontakt- und Anlaufstellen im Herzen der Stadt aufsuchen. Diese sind auf die Bedürfnisse der Konsumenten abgestimmt. Sie bieten ärztliche Versorgung, Essen und die Möglichkeit unter hygienischen Bedingungen Crack zu rauchen. In Deutschland bislang unvorstellbar: Die Drogen können direkt in der Anlaufstelle von Kleindealern gekauft werden. Eine Grauzone, die von der Polizei toleriert wird. Für Einrichtungsleiter Florian Meyer ist klar: Wenn man die Crack-Süchtigen von der Straße holen will, muss man neue Wege gehen.

Eine geschundene Familie mit immer noch wenig bekannten Facetten: Neun Geschwister, deren Leben Glanzlichter des US-amerikanischen Jahrhunderts setzten und seine Abgründe enthüllten. Aber auch ihre irische Herkunft spielt eine Rolle.

Die Präsidentschaftshistorikerin Barbara A. Perry erörtert die Rolle von Mutter Rose, der Journalist Ronald Kessler und der Historiker David Nasaw diskutieren den lebenslangen Einfluss von Vater Joseph P. Kennedy auf seine Kinder, und die Biografen Larry Tye und Alan Posener analysieren die Beziehungen zwischen den Geschwistern, von denen sechs in der Politik aktiv waren. In Irland sprechen Patrick Grennan, ein Cousin der Kennedys, sowie die Historiker Timothy Meagher und Daniel Geary über das besondere und sehr beständige Irischsein der Familie Kennedy.
