A Weak Establishment Is Letting Islamists Threaten British Freedoms

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Birmingham council and police must do all they can to uncover extremist subversion in the city's schools. All Islamist schools of thought are hostile to democracy

Sunday is Easter Day, but the pupils of 25 or so state schools in Birmingham probably do not know what that means for Christians. Argument rages about Islamist infiltration of these schools, and the exclusion of non-Muslim beliefs that results. There is an apparent plot by Muslim extremists to get their people into school governorships and install like-minded heads. This week, Michael Gove, the Education Secretary, boldly appointed Peter Clarke, a former senior policeman, as his commissioner to look into the whole thing. » | Charles Moore | Friday, April 18, 2014 (Good Friday)

My comment:

"A weak establishment is letting Islamists threaten British freedoms" – Charles Moore

I, and many others, have been saying this for aeons. But we have been shouted down for being Islamophobic. But it is very refreshing indeed that MSM journalists, especially journalists of such repute as Charles Moore, are at last having the courage to say what we have been saying for so long.

Tony Blair made a very big mistake to encourage the proliferation of such faith schools. Faith schools, as long as they were CofE or even Jewish schools, were pretty benign, and offered some excellent educational opportunities to our young people. But Islamic schools are a very different story. Islamic schools are subversive and exclusive. They do not foster broad thought, and encourage pupils to have a feeling of superiority. Further, they discourage integration of pupils into the mainstream of society, to say nothing of their effects on girls' education. These schools need to be monitored and their negative effects checked constantly; and if necessary, they should be closed down. – © Mark

Egypt Warns Tourists of Islamist Terror Threat

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Warning follows an explosion on the bus which killed three South Korean Christian pilgrims heading from South Sinai to the Israeli border

Egypt’s prime minister yesterday issued a warning to the tourism industry after a terror group claimed a suicide bombing on a bus which killed three South Koreans and threatened to stage more attacks. The statement by Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, or Supporters of Jerusalem, celebrated the loss of one of its “heroes”, who it said attacked the bus as it was heading towards the “Zionist entity”.

An explosion on the bus, which was carrying South Korean Christian pilgrims and approaching the Israeli border crossing at Taba after visiting St Catherine’s Monastery in South Sinai, killed three passengers and the Egyptian driver, as well as the bomber.

“This is part of our economic war against this treacherous, agent regime,” the statement said. “We are watching this treasonous gang and we will target its economic interests everywhere, to cripple them and their actions against the Muslim people.” » | Richard Spencer in Cairo | Tuesday, February 18, 2014

Islamist Rebels Hold Nuns Hostage in Syria

Islamist fighters in Syria are believed to be holding a group of nuns hostage. Abducted from an Orthodox Monastery near Damascus they have reportedly been moved to the rebel-controlled town of Yabroud. The Pope has called for prayers for the kidnapped women, amid demands from clerics and religious organizations to release them. RT's Middle East correspondent Paula Slier is following the story.

Stupid Is As Stupid Does! Britain Holds First Face-to-face Talks with Islamists Fighting Assad

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: As secular groups lose control of opposition, western allies reach out to hardliners in hope they can find common cause

Britain and its western allies have held their first face-to-face talks with Islamist factions fighting President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, including militant groups demanding a hardline Sharia state, as the secular forces they previously backed lose ground.

The meeting was held in the Turkish capital, Ankara, officials said, as the western alliance grows increasingly alarmed by the strength of jihadist, al-Qaeda-linked factions that now dominate parts of rebel-held territory.

The western alliance is hoping that non al-Qaeda Islamist groups will form a common cause with the secular Free Syrian Army and the western-backed Syrian National Coalition, despite their deep ideological differences. However, they have previously refused to back several of these Islamist groups for fear that arms sent to moderate groups will just leak to the extremists. » | Richard Spencer, Middle East Correspondent | Wednesday, December 04, 2013

Bangladesh Islamist Leader Sentenced to Death

AL JAZEERA ENGLISH: Jamaat-e-Islami's Assistant Secretary-General ordered to be hanged after prosecution challenged his life sentence.

Bangladesh's top court has sentenced a senior Islamist opposition leader to death for mass murder during the country's 1971 liberation war against Pakistan.

Abdul Quader Molla, 65, the fourth-highest-ranked leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, is the first politician to be found guilty by the country's Supreme Court after it overturned an appeal to acquit him of all charges.

"The court enhanced his life sentence to the death penalty," prosecutor Mohammad Ali said on Tuesday. » | Source: Al Jazeera and agencies | Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Egypt Salafists Warn against Trying to Wipe Out Islamism

REUTERS UK: While security forces round up the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt's second largest religious party has warned the state against trying to wipe out political Islam entirely during its toughest crackdown in decades.

The Nour Party, a Salafist group that backed the military's removal of President Mohamed Mursi last month, is now also feeling the heat, its leader Younes Makhyoun told Reuters.

Members of his pacifist party - which follows an austere interpretation of Islam - have been beaten, harassed and turned over to the police in recent days, simply because they wear beards as a sign of their religious observance, he said.

With at least 900 people killed in a week, Makhyoun cautioned against an arbitrary campaign targeting Islamists, saying this would drive some underground. "This will be a dangerous path and make many disavow the tools of democracy, and perhaps resort to other methods," he said in an interview.

Political Islam could not be "uprooted", he added. "If anyone is thinking about excluding it, that is of the utmost stupidity."

The Brotherhood's main rival, the Nour Party turned strongly against the much older Islamist group earlier this year, joining liberals who accused Mursi of staging a power grab. » | Tom Perry | Cairo | Wednesday, August 21, 2013

Zanzibar Acid Attack: Hardline Cleric Surrenders to Police

THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH: A hardline Islamic cleric wanted for questioning over the Zanzibar acid attack on two British teenagers handed himself in on Sunday as police faced criticism for their slow-paced investigations.

Detectives believe Issa Ponda may have inspired the attack on Katie Gee and Kirstie Trup, who remained in hospital being treated for their injuries last night.

Sheikh Ponda surrendered a day after he was injured during police attempts to arrest him on the orders of Tanzania's chief prosecutor.

He is under guard being treated in hospital and will be interrogated once doctors discharge him.

Miss Gee and Miss Trup, both 18 and from north London, were volunteering for at a Zanzibar nursery school when two men on a moped threw acid over them, wounding them on their faces, hands, legs, backs, necks and chests.

Both are said to be "devastated" by the extent of their injuries, which relatives fear will leave them with long-term physical and mental scars. » | Mike Pflanz, Stone Town, and Victoria Ward | Sunday, August 11, 2013

Egypt: Islamists Call for Uprising after 50 Shot Dead on the Streets of Cairo

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood has called for a national uprising in response to the deaths of more than 50 supporters of the deposed president, Mohammed Morsi, who were shot dead at a sit-in.

The army said it acted with “wisdom and prudence” after the headquarters of the Republican Guard was, it claimed, attacked by Muslim Brotherhood supporters who believe Mr Morsi is being held there.

But witnesses described being overwhelmed by tear gas and then coming under fire from all sides as protesters camped out in front of the base peacefully finished their dawn prayers at about 3.30am.

“People were still kneeling and suddenly we found that police were approaching and firing tear gas,” said Mustafa Gamal, 21, a law student.

Mohammed Hassan, 36, an agricultural engineer, said: “The police were shooting at us from one side and the army from the other. The guards standing in front of the base were shooting. I saw two people being killed. The bullets entered their heads and came out the side.” » | Richard Spencer, Robert Tait and Magdy Samaan in Cairo | Monday, July 08, 2013

Don't Be Too Hard On Turkey's Islamists – They Are Just the Sort the West Should Want

TELEGRAPH BLOGS – COLIN FREEMAN: Watching the turmoil in Istanbul in the past few days, it’s easy to see why there is talk of Turkey hosting its own version of the Arab Spring. The scenario, at first glance, seems very familiar. First of all, thousands of protesters, mainly but not exclusively young and metropolitan, accuse their government of being authoritarian. The police respond with tear gas and truncheons. Then the country’s prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, denounces the crowds as “bums and extremists”, and insists that this is not a “Turkish Spring”, thank you. Such blunt responses to people power elsewhere in the Middle East recently have often heralded a leader’s imminent demise.

Yet we in the West should perhaps be careful what we wish for in Turkey. For one, Mr Erdogan is democratically elected, with popularity ratings that many of his European counterparts would envy. And for another, whatever its shortcomings – and judging by the size of the crowds on Turkey’s streets in recent days, there are plenty – his Justice and Development Party is the nearest thing we have to an Islamist government that the West can work with. Read on and comment » | Colin Freeman | Thursday, June 06, 2013

My comment:

Another whitewash of Islamic Turkey! Colin Freeman clearly doesn't have a proper understanding of what Islam is all about. You can't compare Protestantism with Islamism, for goodness' sake. How naïve!

It seems to me that this blog post was written to soften us up for the accession of Turkey into the EU. No, Sir! We don't want Turkey in the EU. I don't care what an economic stick of dynamite it is. Europe has already got enough Muslims residing in it. It doesn't need any more.

I think I speak for the many when I say that I am tired of Muslims, Islam, the Jihad, the Prophet Muhammad, and all that goes with that political ideology wrapped up as a faith. For Christ's sake (and I am not blaspheming or swearing when I write that; I'm being literal), leave us alone! Islam has been allowed into the West by ignorant fools, by people who should have known better. Our forefathers did; alas people today do not.

This is not to say that all Muslims are bad; they are not. I have worked for many years with many delightful ones. But my experience of working with them, and my knowledge of Islam tell me that Islam and Western liberal democracy are immiscible: they cannot co-exist. That should be clear and obvious to most people by now.

Let Muslims do their thing in their own countries; and let us do our own thing in ours. – © Mark

Libya Faces Growing Islamist Threat

THE GUARDIAN: Exclusive: Diplomats warn that militants squeezed out of Mali by western intervention are hitting targets in Tripoli

Diplomats are warning of growing Islamist violence against western targets in Libya as blowback from the war in Mali, following last week's attack on the French embassy in Tripoli.

The bomb blast that wrecked much of the embassy is seen as a reprisal by Libyan militants for the decision by Paris the day before to extend its military mission against fellow jihadists in Mali.

The Guardian has learned that jihadist groups ejected from their Timbuktu stronghold have moved north, crossing the Sahara through Algeria and Niger to Libya, fuelling a growing Islamist insurgency.

"There are established links between groups in both Mali and Libya – we know there are established routes," said a western diplomat in Tripoli. "There is an anxiety among the political class here that Mali is blowing back on them." » | Chris Stephen in Tripoli and Afua Hirsch in Timbuktu | Sunday, April 28, 2013

Qatar 'Playing with Fire' as It Funds Syrian Islamists in Quest for Global Influence

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Questions are increasingly being asked about weapons and money being supplied to Islamist rebel groups in Syria by sympathetic Arab states, because of growing fears that they are falling into the hands of jihadists and other extremists.

Qatar and Saudi Arabia are among a handful of countries whose support for the uprising against Bashar al-Assad's regime has won plaudits from many in the region, where few dispute that the Syrian president has forfeited any right to power.

But signs that arms and cash may be filtering through to groups such as the al-Nusra Brigade, which has openly declared allegiance to al-Qaeda, are alarming Western observers.

As the West has hesitated over sending its own military assistance, non-sectarian elements of the rebel Free Syrian Army are being outflanked and out-gunned by better-funded and armed Islamist fighters, including foreign jihadists.

Qatar's prime minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani, said recently: "As there is no clear international opinion to end the crisis in Syria... we are supporting the opposition with whatever it needs, even if it takes up arms for self-defence."

But by focusing support on Islamist groups, both Qatar and Saudi Arabia are seen by many to be playing with fire. » | Colin Freeman, Chief Foreign Correspondent | Saturday, April 27, 2013

Will Pope Francis Become a Dupe of the Islamists?

FRONTPAGEMAG.COM: The Muslim Brotherhood and Al-Azhar University want to shake hands with the new Pope Francis. One of the first pledges he has made is to embrace interfaith dialogue with the Muslim world. Will he become the latest dupe of the “moderate” Islamists?

Pope Francis is a critic of Pope Benedict’s 2006 speech in Germany where he quoted a Byzantine Emperor that said “show me just what Mohammed brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.”

It caused a rupture in relations between Muslim authorities and the Vatican, with almost 40 Muslim scholars signing a letter of protest. Five churches were attacked in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, reinforcing the negative depiction of their religion that they were so offended by.

Pope Benedict said he was “deeply sorry for the reactions in some countries to a few passages of my address at the University of Regensburg, which were considered offensive to the sensibility of Muslims” and “These were in fact a quotation from a Medieval text which do not in any way express my personal thought.” It fell short of the direct apology that was demanded.

He tried to make amends by praying inside Turkey’s Blue Mosque and visiting Jordan in 2009, where he reflected upon the “common history” of the Abrahamic religions. He visited more mosques than any other pope, entering twice as many as his predecessor. » | Ryan Mauro | Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Hundreds Would Have Died in Attack Plotted by Islamic Fanatics

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: It would have been the most devastating terrorist attack on British soil leaving hundreds dead – and by al-Qaeda inspired but “home-grown” Islamic fanatics.

Up to eight suicide bombers carrying backpacks rammed with explosives and armed with guns were to carry out a horrifying blend of the 7/7 and Mumbai atrocities.

The jihadi gang planned to walk in to crowded, public places shooting indiscriminately before simultaneously detonating their terrible homemade payloads killing hundreds on their wake.

Although no firm target was settled on, the 2012 Olympics may have been one along with soldiers based in this country.

They even boasted about "hitting" David Cameron, his friends and other non – believers in the "land of Satan".

The plot was the most significant since the plans to blow up transatlantic aeroplanes with liquid bombs in 2006 and is likely to have led to the largest loss of life from a terror attack on UK shores. » | Tom Whitehead, Security Editor | Thursday, February 21, 2013

Angela Merkel Receives 'Assassination Threat' from German Islamists

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TIMES: German officials probing video

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has received a death threat from Islamic extremists who warn that Europe's nations will experience a 'European Summer' similar to the Middle East's 'Arab Spring', according to German newspapers.

A video has been released by a German Islamist calling himself Abu Azzam, in which he vows to take down Germany and Merkel, according to the daily Die Welt.

"Looking back on an Arab Spring, we look forward to a European summer. Osama, waiting for us, we have tasted blood. We want to see Obama and Merkel dead!," says the video message.

Citing the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, the Islamists threaten similar attacks on German soil.

"You will bleed, your heads will roll (...) Oh Allah, give the German people what it deserves! Know that we get free advertising through you," said the radical Islamist in the video.

He also said that their "troops" are already in position in Germany, to carry out the threatened acts of terrorism. » | Vasudevan Sridharan | Sunday, February 03, 2013

'Briton Killed' and '40 BP Workers Held Hostage' in Algeria Attack

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Al Qaeda-linked hostage takers claiming to hold 41 foreigners hostage at a gas field partly operated by British Petroleum in Algeria have reportedly threatened to blow themselves up after killing a Briton.

Algeria's official APS news agency cited provincial officials for news of the death, which came after an early morning attack by Islamists.

The militants say they are holding an [sic] seven Americans and an unspecified number of British, Japanese and French amongst other nationalities, a spokesman is cited as saying by two Mauritanian news agencies - Agence Nouakchott information et Sahara Medias. A security source quoted by Algeria's El Watan newspaper quoted the same figure.

"A second person, a British national, died in the terrorist attack carried out early on Wednesday morning in Tigantourine," the APS news agency said, citing local officials. Six other people have been wounded.

Prime Minister David Cameron will chair a meeting of the Government's crisis committee Cobra on the incident later on Wednesday.

The natural gas complex, the third largest in the country, is a joint venture of British Petroleum, Norway's Statoil and the Algerian Sonatrach company located some 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) south of the capital near the Libyan border.
