Osama bin Laden Dead: Sons Denounce 'Arbitrary Killing'

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: The sons of Osama bin Laden broke their silence on Tuesday denouncing his "arbitrary killing" and burial at sea as the United States sought to question the al-Qaeda leader's widows.

In a statement given to the New York Times, the sons asked why their father "was not arrested and tried in a court of law so that the truth is revealed to the people of the world."

"We maintain that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems," it said. In a separate statement posted on jihadist sites, the sons also slammed the "criminal mission" ordered by US President Barack Obama which "obliterated an entire defenceless family."

Bin Laden was killed by US forces on May 2 after being tracked down to a Pakistani compound where the architect of the September 11, 2001 attacks is believed to eluded capture for years, despite a massive global hunt.

The statements denouncing his father's killing are said to have been prepared at the direction of Omar bin Laden, 30, and also called for Pakistani authorities to release the al-Qaeda leader's three wives and children.

The United States is keen to question the three women in hopes of finding out more details of al-Qaeda's reach and organisation, as well as details of bin Laden's final years. » | Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Osama bin Laden's Son Says U.S. Broke International Law 'If' His Father Is Dead

LOS ANGELES TIMES: Osama bin Laden's son Omar says he always disagreed with his father about violence, and is now disagreeing with the violence purportedly used against his father.

In a statement written by the Bin Laden family but signed only by Omar, 30, the United States is accused of breaking international law by killing the unarmed terrorist leader without a trial. That is, they said, if the mission was indeed successful.

Omar bin Laden began the statement by saying that he and the family do not believe that the Al Qaeda leader is dead and, like the so-called deathers in this country, want to see photographs and/or video evidence as proof. » | Andrew Malcolm | Tuesday, May 10, 2011

George W Bush 'Invited Son of Osama bin Laden to White House'

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: The son of Osama bin Laden has claimed he was invited to the White House in the final days of George W Bush's presidency in a last-ditch attempt to discover the whereabouts of the world's most wanted terrorist.

Omar bin Laden, the fourth son of the al-Qaeda leader, claims he received a visit from White House staff in January 2009 at his home in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

"They invited me to accompany them to the White House, offered to defend, help and protect me, on the condition that I helped them find my father," he told Spanish daily newspaper La Vanguardia, in an interview published on Monday.

But the 29-year-old said he refused because of filial duty. "I told them I was sorry but it wasn't something I could do. He is my father and I am his son, and as is the way the son must love and respect his father," he said, adding: "Even if in many cases a man may be against the ideas of his father."

But the son who was once groomed to take over from bin Laden later admitted that he had had no contact with his father for almost a decade. Read on and comment » | Fiona Govan, Madrid | Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Omar Bin Laden Wants To Date Drew Barrymore

THE HUFFINGTON POST: Newly single Omar bin Laden, the son of al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, says he dreams of a date with Drew Barrymore.

"I want to go to America, and I would love to meet Drew Barrymore," said Omar, 29, who recently split from wife Zaina, 25 years his senior. "I am single now and she is the most beautiful woman in Hollywood."

Yet it turns out the actress is not the junior Laden's sole interest in American popular culture. Speaking from a Doha, Qatar hotel in an interview with The Sun, he also professes an admiration for Jim Carrey, American football, rock music and Madonna. "She's such a great dancer for a woman of her age," he says of the Material Girl, 51. >>> Curtis M. Wong | Friday, July 16, 2010

I'm Trying for Bin Laden's Grandchild: Briton's Surrogacy Deal with Son of Terror Chief

MAIL ONLINE: A British woman has agreed to become a surrogate mother to Osama Bin Laden's grandson.

Louise Pollard is having fertility treatment in an attempt to conceive using the sperm of Bin Laden's son Omar and the eggs of his British wife Jane Felix Browne.

The couple have been unable to have children since marrying in 2007 and contacted 24-year-old Miss Pollard through a surrogacy website.

If she is successful, it will mean that the world's most wanted terrorist will have a British grandchild.

So far, however, three attempts at conception have been unsuccessful. But Mrs Pollard is due to have another pregnancy test soon.

If the result is negative, she has vowed to make a fourth attempt using her own eggs and Bin Laden's sperm.

Omar, the fourth eldest child of Bin Laden, has had several visa applications to live in Britain rejected. But a British son may help his attempts, though Home Office officials said he would not automatically be granted a visa.

He is said to be deeply saddened that Mrs Pollard, who has already given away two surrogate babies and is thought to be the youngest surrogate mother in the UK, has yet to conceive. >>> Claire Ellicott and Amy Oliver | Friday, June 11, 2010

Omar bin Laden Speaks Out

THE TELEGRAPH: Omar bin Laden was being groomed as ‘the chosen one’ by his notorious father Osama. Now the favourite son has turned his back on jihadism. But is he really the agent of peace he claims to be?

Photobucket

It is after midnight when Osama bin Laden’s fourth-born son, Omar, leads me into a nightclub called Les Caves de Boys in the centre of Damascus.

He brushes past the two heavyset Syrian thugs at the door and picks a booth in the back.

A dozen or so wealthy Arab men are drinking whiskey and watching Russian strippers put on a show – tame by Western standards, but as Omar sips a 7 Up, he follows their every move with boyish wonder. Russian women, he tells me, are the most beautiful in the world.

As a teenager in the mountains of Tora Bora, Omar had been his father’s chosen successor, the favoured son meant to lead al-Qaeda and carry on global jihad.

Then, in 2001, a few months before Osama bin Laden was to become the world’s most wanted man, Omar abandoned his father’s compound in Afghanistan. He left behind almost certain death for this: the world, Les Caves de Boys, life.

Past two in the morning, a statuesque dancer emerges for the grand finale. Dressed in a red rhinestone bra and panties, with a black shimmy belt and an ostrich-feather crown, she gyrates her hips as Omar watches, mesmerised.

‘Thank God my father doesn’t run the world,’ Omar grins.

To Omar, Osama bin Laden is neither a jihadist nor a mass murderer – he is a lost man, a fanatical father who withheld his love, beat and betrayed his children, and destroyed his family chasing his fantasy of becoming a latter-day prophet. >>> Guy Lawson | Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Osama bin Laden's Son: Why I Refused to Follow in My Father's Footsteps

THE GUARDIAN: Omar bin Laden says he would 'like to be in a position to promote peace' in interview in which he recalls hearing about 9/11 attacks

Having a famous father is not always easy: the burden of expectation can weigh heavily on young shoulders. So what to do when your surname is Bin Laden?

In an interview with the New Statesman, Omar bin Laden, the fourth eldest son of the world's most wanted man, reveals himself as someone definitely not cut from the same cloth as his father.

Asked whether he plans to enter politics or public life, Omar says: "I do not believe that I would be a good politician – I have a habit of speaking the truth, even when it does not serve me well. But I would like to be in a position to promote peace. I believe that the United Nations would be ideal for me."

Omar ended contact with his father, Osama bin Laden, in April 2001. He says he was asked once to take up arms at a meeting with his father's fighters.

"His sons were in attendance, although none of us was a fighter," Omar says. "He spoke of how it is a great honour to give one's life for Islam and said anyone who wanted to give their life should put their name on a paper in the mosque.

"He never asked me to join al-Qaida, but he did tell me I was the son chosen to carry on his work. He was disappointed when I said I was not suited to that life. I do not like disagreement or violence." >>> Mark Tran | Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Bin Laden's Son Deported to Qatar

BBC: One of Osama Bin Laden's sons is in Qatar after being deported from Egypt and Spain following failed asylum bids.

Omar Bin Laden, 27, has said he does not share his father's views and has not seen him since 2000.

His British wife, Zaina Alsabah Bin Laden (formerly Jane Felix-Browne) said their condemnation of al-Qaeda had put their lives in danger in the Mid-East.

Their legal status in Qatar was not known. They have also been unsuccessful in securing British visas.

Mr Bin Laden, one of the al-Qaeda leader's 19 sons, made his claim for asylum in Madrid during a stopover on a flight from Egypt to Morocco with his 52-year-old wife.

He said the petition was rejected due to "insufficient evidence of danger or threat to [his] life". An appeal against the ruling is also believed to have been rejected.

The couple were then barred from entering Egypt, where they have lived for the past year. It was not known why Egypt denied them entry. >>> | November 9, 2008

Omar bin Laden in UK Visa Appeal

BBC: One of Osama Bin Laden's sons is to mount a legal challenge after being refused entry to live in the UK with his 52-year-old British wife.

Omar Osama Bin Laden, 27, was told his visa application had been rejected because of newspaper suggestions he could still be loyal to his father.

He currently lives in Cairo, Egypt with wife Zaina Alsabah-Bin Laden, formerly named Jane Felix-Browne, from Cheshire. Mr Bin Laden, one of 19 siblings, has publicly condemned terrorism.

The couple hoped to move to Mrs Bin Laden's home in the village of Moulton, near Northwich in Cheshire, where she was a member of the parish council until recently.

Mrs Bin Laden, who is severely visually impaired, said she needed access to medical treatment in the UK but refused to be apart from her husband. Bin Laden's Son in UK Visa Appeal >>>

DAILY MAIL: Wearing matching leather jackets and jeans, and with dark hair flowing over their shoulders, they stroll hand-in-hand through Rome.

No, not a couple of ageing rockers. This is Osama bin Laden's son and his British wife on their self-proclaimed mission to promote world peace.

Omar bin Laden, who at 27 is barely half the age of six-times-married Cheshire grandmother Jane Felix-Browne, looked ill at ease as they took in the tourist sights.

After having their photograph taken at the Colosseum and shopping at designer boutiques, the unlikely couple were interviewed on Italian television about their role as "peace ambassadors".

Omar, who claims to have had no contact with his infamous father since before the September 11 attacks, believes the Al Qaeda chief is still alive.

"I do not believe my father is dead, otherwise I would have known it - the world would have known it," he said.

A practising Muslim, he also spoke of his desire to meet Pope Benedict XVI. "But I have been told that it is not easy." Mr and Mrs Bin Laden: Rockers in Rome hoping for peace and a meeting with the Pope >>> By James Tozer

Omar bin Laden Wants Bush – bin Laden Talks

MSNBC: CAIRO, Egypt - President Bush doesn’t need to capture Osama bin Laden, he needs to talk to him, the terrorist leader’s son, Omar bin Laden, told TODAY co-host Matt Lauer on Tuesday.

Wearing a black, leather biker jacket, black polo shirt and faded blue jeans and with his long hair pulled back in tightly braided dreadlocks, Omar bin Laden, 26, spoke via satellite from Cairo with his 52-year-old British wife at his side. The fourth-oldest son of the world’s most wanted man has recently been in the media, saying he wants to use his name to be an “ambassador for peace” between Islam and the West. While he has renounced his father’s methods, he does not call him a terrorist.

“They do some meeting and talk together,” he said in heavily accented English of Bush and Osama bin Laden, suggesting that a meeting could be facilitated by other world political and religious leaders. “Find the middle ground between everybody – that’s my goal, to find it for every civilian people,” he said. Omar bin Laden Wants to Become ‘Ambassador for Peace’!

THE STAR: CAIRO, Egypt–Omar Osama bin Laden bears a striking resemblance to his notorious father – except for the dreadlocks that dangle halfway down his back. Then there's the black leather biker jacket.

The 26-year-old does not renounce his father, Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, but in an interview he said there is a better way to defend Islam than militancy: Omar wants to be an "ambassador for peace" between Muslims and the West.

Omar – one of bin Laden's 19 children – raised a tabloid storm last year when he married a 52-year-old British woman, Jane Felix-Browne, who took the name Zaina Alsabah. Now the couple say they want to be advocates, planning a 5,000-kilometre horse race across North Africa to draw attention to the cause of peace.

"It's about changing the ideas of the Western mind. A lot of people think Arabs – especially the bin Ladens, especially the sons of Osama – are all terrorists. This is not the truth," Omar said last week at a café in a Cairo shopping mall.

Of course, many may have a hard time getting their mind around the idea of "bin Laden: peacenik."

"Omar thinks he can be a negotiator," said Alsabah, who is trying to bring her husband to Britain. "He's one of the only people who can do this in the world." Bin Laden's son an `ambassador for peace' >>> By Paul Schemm

Bin Laden’s Son Seeks Life as UK Country Gentleman

WORLDNETDAILY: The fourth son of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, who attended terror-training sessions in Afghanistan with his father, may soon take up residence with his British wife at her English country home, where the two plan to have a child with a surrogate mother and become peace activists, if his recent request for a visa is approved.

Omar Bin Laden, 26, who met Jane Felix-Browne, 52, in September 2006 when the Englishwoman was vacationing in Egypt, has been interviewed by British Embassy officials in Cairo, the London Daily Mail reported.

Felix-Brown, then a grandmother, surprised many last year when she announced she had become daughter-in-law to the mastermind of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, on New York City and Washington, D.C. The pair hid their marriage – the sixth for Felix-Brown and the second (concurrent) marriage for bin Laden – initially.

Last July, when interviewed by the Daily Mail on her way to rejoin her new husband in Egypt, Felix-Brown expressed skepticism over her father-in-law's role in the terror attack.

"I mean, do you know - beyond all doubt – that he did it? If so, I'd like you to show me the evidence. I don't think it's nice to make assumptions about someone when you don't know the facts," she said.

At the time, Felix-Brown – who has since changed her name to Zaina Al Sabah Bin Laden – expressed a desire to eventually settle in Saudi Arabia and said she had no problem with her husband having another wife and child.

"I'd set up another home nearby, and he would come and go between the two," she said. "It is quite normal, really. I don't mind at all – why should I? I'm not jealous of his wife. I have spoken to her. Lots of married men in this country have girlfriends. At least he is being honest."

Unfortunately for bin Laden's first wife, British immigration officials care less about "honesty" than polygamy and are requiring proof bin Laden has obtained a divorce in Saudi Arabia before allowing him to move to Felix-Brown's $1.1 million home in Moulton, Cheshire, in Britain's rural northwest.

"We have been told there will not be a problem as long as we can provide the original documents from his divorce from his first wife. And that should be done in a week," said the second Mrs. bin Laden. British Woman Marries OBL’s Son, Omar, and Wants to Bring Him to the UK!

TIMESONLINE: A British woman has married a son of Osama bin Laden after a holiday romance and is to apply for a visa so that he can visit Britain, The Times has learnt.

Jane Felix-Browne, a 51-year-old grandmother and parish councillor from Cheshire, has until now kept her marriage to Omar Ossama bin Laden, 27, secret from everyone apart from her immediate family and close friends. But she has now agreed to speak about her relationship with bin Laden’s fourth eldest son.

“It would be nice if, like any other married woman, I could stand up and say this is my husband and this is his name, but I have to be realistic about things,” she told The Times. “I hope people don’t judge me too harshly. I married the son, not the father.”

Mrs Felix-Browne says she is aware that some people will be hostile to her marriage. Among the numerous terrorist plots linked to her new father-in-law are the London suicide bombings on July 7, 2005, the July 21 plot, and the recent attempted attacks in London and Glasgow. “I just married the man I met and fell in love with – to me he is just Omar,” she said. “I hope that people will take a step back and think what it was like when they fell in love. He is the most beautiful person I have ever met. His heart is pure, he is pious, quiet, a true gentleman, and he is my best friend.” Briton marries bin Laden’s son (more) By David Brown
