Iran Vows Vengeance after Assassination of Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah

THE OBSERVER: Iran’s supreme leader says Israel’s killing of Nasrallah will “not go unavenged”, as fears grow of spiralling conflict

Iran’s supreme leader has warned Israel that its assassination of Hezbollah’s veteran leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, will “not go unavenged”, as fears of a spiralling conflict in the Middle East grow.

As the shockwaves from Friday evening’s airstrike that killed Nasrallah reverberated through the region, and Israel continued to pound targets in Lebanon, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei announced five days of official mourning on Saturday and called for an urgent meeting of the 57-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Iran also called for the UN security council to meet over Israel’s actions in Lebanon and across the region.

Israel’s security forces were also put on high alert for possible retaliation, as experts warned the region was facing several scenarios following the killing, including the risk of a widening war that could draw Iran, Hezbollah’s main backer, into a direct conflict with Israel. » | Peter Beaumont in Jerusalem and William Christou in Beirut | Saturday, September 28, 2024

Al Jazeera English: Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah Gives Gaza Speech

Nov 3, 2023 | The Hezbollah chief says whoever wants to prevent a regional war, must quickly stop the war on the Gaza Strip. Nasrallah repeats that all options in the Lebanese front are open. He says that Hezbollah is ready for all possibilities.

Addressing the US deployment of warships in the region, Nasrallah says Hezbollah is not intimidated. As he continues to touch on familiar themes during his speech, the Hezbollah leader also says that further escalation on the Lebanese front is a real possibility.

He warns that such a development depends on Israeli actions in Gaza. Nasrallah continues, saying Hezbollah has been escalating its operations by the day and forcing Israel to keep its forces near the Lebanon border instead of Gaza or the occupied West Bank.

It appears that World War III has already begun! And it’s a holy war! Our politicians had better get with the story and repeal all those ridiculous laws passed in the name of political correctness, in the vain hope that Islam and the Christian, but increasingly secular, West can live in peace and harmony. In the long-run, these two diametrically-opposed world religions and ways of life cannot. Throughout history, Islam and Christianity have vied for pre-eminence and dominance. When two powerful forces collide, one is bound to win. We must ensure that we do. We in the West have some tough decisions ahead. The peaceful world we had come to know and love has been dealt a severe blow.

Some twenty plus years ago, I wrote a book referencing a "New Dark Age". It would appear that that new dark age has well and truly dawned. The forces of darkness have been trying hard to snuff out the light. We have reached a pivotal moment in the fight for supremacy. Benightedness is in battle with enlightened thought, and is trying very hard to triumph over it. Superstition is trying to triumph over and conquer science. Science must win! – © Mark Alexander

Tension Mounts as Hezbollah Win Predicted

THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: THE militant Islamic group Hezbollah looks set to consolidate its influence on power in Lebanon when voters go to the polls here on June 7.

Backed by Iran and Syria, the Hezbollah-led coalition known as March 8 is favoured to win a majority in parliament.

Led by the charismatic Shiite cleric Hassan Nasrallah, who is loathed in the West but loved across the Muslim world, Hezbollah is nevertheless expected to extend the current power-sharing arrangements under a new government of national unity.

With about 20 parties competing for attention in Lebanon's intractably complicated system - in which power is divided between the country's Sunni, Shiite, Druze and Christian populations - the Mediterranean country is in the grip of election fever. >>> Jason Koutsoukis Herald Correspondent in Beirut | Saturday, May 9, 2009

Nasrallah Heralds Signs of US Defeat in Region

IRNA: Leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, said Monday night that all signs of US defeat are clear in the region given the firm intention of regional states to resist US plans.

"Experience of the past three decades, Iran's Islamic Revolution in particular, proved that US was not able to reach all its goals in the region," the prominent cleric said speaking in a teleconference with Iran's state television's channel 2 news program.

He added that emergence of regional resistance movements and uprising in the past three decades have proved that "US expansionist plans were damaged and Washington has failed to fulfill its dreams in the region."

Asked how he had successfully gathered different Lebanese parties and religious minorities together in the name of Hezbollah movement, Nasrallah said "It is a common point among all who live in Lebanon that Israel is an occupier and criminal enemy."

"Everyone in Lebanon believes that Israel is a common enemy of all Lebanese and it is easy to gather people together to confront a common enemy," he said.

He added that Hezbollah has special place for almost all Lebanese people and that minor disagreements, if any, could not damage its dignity and status. [Source: IRNA] | September 9, 2008

Libanon: Nasrallah provoziert
