Rupert Murdoch Paper Prints Picture of Duchess of Cambridge's Bare Bottom
A Rupert Murdoch paper has followed German tabloid Bild in publishing photos of the Duchess of Cambridge's bare bottom snapped on her Australian tour with Prince William. |
One of Rupert Murdoch's Australian newspapers has published a picture showing the Duchess of Cambridge's bare bottom, refusing to follow a "ridiculous" ban imposed by the British media.
The image was taken during the royal couple's tour of Australia in April when they showed off their infant son George, and was run in the Sydney Daily Telegraph a day after it appeared in German tabloid Bild, which declared she had a "beautiful bum".
It shows the Duchess of Cambridge's blue and white summer dress lifted by a gust of wind when the royal couple got out of a helicopter in the Blue Mountains, 80 kilometres (50 miles) west of Sydney.
The Sydney Daily Telegraph said British newspapers had refused to run the photo out of respect to the royals, but in a comment piece said this was "an antiquated code of etiquette" under the headline "My bare lady: Derri-heir to the throne is fair game."
"It seems a bit ridiculous to expect the rest of the world's media to follow suit, particularly in a world in which flesh and commercialism go hand in hand," said Telegraph social writer Annette Sharp.
"If the duchess can't be bothered protecting herself by having hem weights sewn into her garments, why should the media protect her?" Read on and comment » | Agence France-Presse | Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Prince George Alexander Louis: Kate and William Reveal Royal Baby's Name
THE GUARDIAN: Baby, who will be known as Prince George of Cambridge, is named one day after mother left hospital
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced their newborn son is to be called George Alexander Louis. He will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge.
The announcement at 6.20pm showed the couple have chosen to stick with very traditional royal names. There have already been six British monarchs called George – the last being the Queen's father, George VI. Louis is also a favourite and was the name of Lord Mountbatten, the uncle of the Duke of Edinburgh.
The announcement comes a day after the duchess left hospital and two days after she gave birth, and hours after the Queen met her great-grandson for the first time.
George was the most popular name with betting firms William Hill, Coral and Paddy Power. James was also a favourite with punters, with Alexander, Henry, Louis, Richard and Arthur the next most popular choices.
It was widely expected that William and Kate would not wander far from convention and select anything too outlandish for a prince who is likely to reign one day and whose name could symbolise an era. » | Caroline Davies | Wednesday, July 24, 2013

Royal Baby: Messages of Congratulations Flood In after Birth
BBC: Congratulatory messages are flooding in from around the world to mark the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's son, the third in line to the throne.
Prince William said the couple "could not be happier" following the birth of the boy, who weighed 8lb 6oz and is yet to be named, at 16:24 BST on Monday.
Thousands of well-wishers descended on Buckingham Palace after the news broke.
The royal birth will be marked later with gun salutes and the ringing of Westminster Abbey's bells.
The duke was at the private Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital, west London, for the birth - and stayed with Catherine and the baby overnight.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said it was "too early" to say whether they would leave hospital on Tuesday. The couple are expected to talk to their medical team before a decision is made.
BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt said it was unlikely the Queen would visit her great-grandchild in hospital, adding - "she can of course see him privately once he leaves". (+ video) » | Tuesday, July 23, 2013

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby, St James's Palace announced today.
The Duchess of Cambridge, the former Kate Middleton, is understood to have found out last month that she was pregnant, and had not intended to go public with the news until she was at least 12 weeks pregnant.
But after being admitted to hospital with a bout of acute morning sickness, the Duke and Duchess decided to make the announcement early to avoid any speculation about her condition.
Royal sources refused to say how many weeks pregnant the Duchess is, but confirmed she has not yet reached the 12-week stage.
The Duchess, 30, is suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, which means she needs to be given extra fluids and nutrition, and is likely to remain in hospital for several days. » | Monday, December 03, 2012

TELEGRAPH – BLOGS – WILLARD FOXTON: It may surprise you to learn who Britain's third most popular "porn babe" has been for the past couple of weeks. It was none other than the Duchess of Cambridge, the former Kate Middleton. Until last week, she was listed in the top five most searched UK "babes" on freeones.co.uk, a site which aggregates free pictures of mostly porn actresses, but also celebrities. She's since dropped out of the top five, but it looks as though the story may reignite.
Over the weekend a Danish magazine published more explicit photos from the same set, featuring the Duchess frontally naked. Newspaper pictures editors tell me there are as many as 270 pictures being hawked around, which feature both the Duchess and Prince William naked – only 24 have appeared thus far. The Palace's nightmare is that the pictures are stills from a video. » | Willard Foxton | Monday, October 01, 2012

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: The photographer who took the topless pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge is British, French paparazzi claimed today.
French paparazzi Pascal Rostain said the snapper who staked out the Royal couple on holiday was an Englishman living in the south of France.
And the photographer was spying on their French chateau [sic] on the orders of France's Closer magazine - the first to publish 13 intimate images of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last week - he said.
Mr Rostain, in his 40s, is a close friend of former French First Lady Carla Bruni and one of France's most notorious long lens photographers.
He told France Metro newspaper in Lyon: "The irony of this whole thing is that the photographer who took these pictures is an Englishman living in the south of France. » | Telegraph reporters | Thursday, September 20, 2012

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are understood to be considering their options after a Danish magazine said it planned to publish more topless pictures of Kate.
Se & Hoer (See & Hear), a weekly celebrity magazine in Denmark, announced today on its website it will print the photographs in a 16-page supplement tomorrow. The publication's editor in chief Kim Henningsen has said the magazine wants to show Denmark's entertainment fans ''what these photos are all about''.
"Our readers love to follow the lives of the royals and they want scoops. I am therefore incredibly proud that we have obtained the rights to provide the topless pictures of Britain's future queen - which the whole world is talking about but very few have actually seen," he said.
"It is in the DNA of the magazine to entertain and satisfy our readers’ curiosity. Therefore, it is always relevant to us when a duchess and future queen of England is topless and still willingly shows her breasts to a public road." » | Wednesday, September 19, 2012

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Police today raided the headquarters of French magazine Closer as they hunted down the photographer responsible for capturing the Duchess of Cambridge topless.
Officers arrived at the Closer building in Paris at 10am, with detectives confirming they were looking for information ‘which might lead to the identity’ of the paparazzi responsible.
The investigation was launched by prosecutors in the French capital on Monday, with William and Kate later winning an injunction preventing further distribution of the images.
But Christophe Bigot , a barrister who specialises in media law, immediately questioned the legality of the raid – suggesting that it had solely been authoritised because members of the Royal Family were involved.
Journalistic sources – who include photographers – are strictly protected by French law which was tightened up as recently as two years ago.
"A law of January 2, 2010 protects the confidentiality of sources, as do numerous decisions of the European Court of Human Rights," said Mr Bigot, in an interview with Le Figaro. "In the case of William and Kate, I do not see how a prosecutor could justify a search of Closer."
On Tuesday, judges ordered Closer to hand over all files containing the images to representatives of the couple within 24 hours, but there was no order to name the photographer.
Referring to today’s raid, a police source said : "The aim is to seize any information which might lead to the identity of the photographer." » | Peter Allen | Wednesday, September 19, 2012

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Gossip magazine Chi hit the streets of Italy on Monday with a special edition featuring the controversial topless pictures of the Duchess.
As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge prepared to launch criminal proceedings in France, the gossip magazine Chi hit the streets of Italy on Monday with a special edition featuring the controversial topless pictures of the Duchess.
The magazine devoted 20 pages to pictures of the Duchess on vacation with her husband Prince William in the south of France and features three topless photos of her on the cover with the headline: "Kate Middleton Court Scandal – The queen is nude!”[.]
The photos include the Duchess sunbathing topless on the balcony and rubbing suntan lotion on her husband’s back. There is also a shot of her back with her hands putting suntan lotion inside her bikini bottom.
Inside the magazine is a column by cosmetic surgeon Paolo Santanche analysing the duchess, as well as two pages headlined ‘2012 the Year of Scandals’, which includes the recent naked photo of Prince Harry partying in Las Vegas.
In an editorial Chi editor, Alfonso Signorini, said the issue is “special” because it is the first time the future queen of England is seen “in a natural way” without the structures imposed by her role. » | Telegraph reporters | Monday, September 17, 2012

THE GUARDIAN: Irish Daily Star prints topless photos with Italian gossip mag owned by Silvio Berlusconi planning to follow suit with 26-page photo special
The Irish edition of the Daily Star has published topless pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge despite it being part of a British-owned media group which has promised to respect the privacy of the Royal Family.
Its editor, Mike O'Kane, said the pictures did not feature in the Northern Ireland or British editions.
The Daily Star is partly owned by Richard Desmond's Northern and Shell Group, which also owns Channel 5.
Responding to reports that the Irish Daily Star has published topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge, St James's Palace said: "There can be no motivation for this action other than greed."
The Italian publication Chi is also set to follow the French gossip magazaine Closer in printing topless photographs of the duchess. » | Lisa O'Carroll, Conal Urquhart, and agencies | Saturday, September 15, 2012
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: An Italian magazine is set to follow a French publication in printing photographs of the Duchess of Cambridge sunbathing topless in a special issue next week.
Gossip magazine Chi is understood to be planning a 26-page photo special of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on holiday in the south of France.
Despite St James's Palace describing the publication of the photos of Kate in French magazine Closer yesterday as a "grotesque and totally unjustifiable" invasion of privacy, and the announcement that the royal couple will sue its publishers, unconfirmed reports said Chi still planned to print the images[,].
Closer and Chi are both part of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's Mondadori media group.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last night took the unprecedented step of starting legal proceedings over topless pictures which they regard as a “grotesque” invasion of privacy.

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: A French magazine which is expected to publish topless pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge has been accused by St James’s Palace of “turning the clock back 15 years” to the last days of Diana, Princess of Wales.
Long-lens shots of the Duchess, taken while she and the Duke of Cambridge were beside a private swimming pool during a holiday in Provence last week, are due to appear in Closer magazine today.
The Duke and Duchess were told about the pictures during breakfast as they prepared for the fourth day of their tour of the Far East, and were said to be “saddened” that their privacy had been breached.
Palace officials are expected to contact lawyers in France this morning and will consider all options available to them once they have had a chance to verify that the pictures are genuine.
The Duke’s mother was killed in August 1997 when her car crashed in Paris as it was being pursued by paparazzi photographers, and the fact that Palace sources alluded to the Princess’s death showed the depth of their anger at the controversy, which threatens to overshadow the couple’s foreign tour.
A Royal source said: “This is disappointing, saddening and turns the clock back 15 years. We have always maintained the position that the Duke and Duchess deserve their privacy, not least when they are on holiday in their own swimming pool.” » | Gordon Rayner, Chief Reporter, Kuala Lumpur | Friday, September 14, 2012
