Democratic Hopeful Tells Obama to 'Shove It'

THE TELEGRAPH: The Democratic candidate for governor in Rhode Island said on Monday that President Barack Obama can "shove it" for withholding his endorsement in elections just eight days away.

"He can take his endorsement and really shove it, as far as I'm concerned," Frank Caprio told local WPRO-AM radio, even as Mr Obama was due to visit the small east coast state for two Democratic party fund-raisers and a visit to a factory.

Mr Caprio was running against Republican John Robitaille as well as former Republican Lincoln Chafee, an independent who backed Mr Obama's 2008 presidential bid, in the November 2 ballot.

"I've never asked President Obama for his endorsement. And what's going on here is really Washington insider politics at its worst," complained Mr Caprio.

"What I'm saying to President Obama very clearly is, I'll wear as a badge of honour and a badge of courage that he doesn't want to endorse me as a Democrat, because I am a different kind of Democrat," he told the station. >>> | Monday, October 25, 2010

Bishop Orders Episcopal Priest to Renounce Islamic Faith

USA TODAY: PROVIDENCE — An Episcopal priest in Seattle is fighting attempts by Rhode Island Episcopal Bishop Geralyn Wolf to defrock her for practicing Islam and Christianity at the same time.

Ann Holmes Redding, who marks the 25th anniversary of her ordination on March 25, says she believes she can practice both faiths and should not have to recant her Muslim beliefs.

Redding, a former Brown University student and parishioner at St. Stephen's Church in Providence, was ordained by Wolf's predecessor. Wolf is her canonical superior because Redding never shifted her canonical residence to Seattle.

Wolf has told Redding that her conversion to Islam constitutes an abandonment of the Christian faith and she must recant by March 30 or lose her status as a priest. [Source: USA Today] AP | Monday, 16, 2009

THE TELEGRAPH: Hillary Clinton has revived her campaign for the White House nomination, winning three primary election votes and seizing back the momentum from Barack Obama.

Mrs Clinton vowed to continue fighting for the Democratic nomination beyond the spring as she won the critical primary poll in Texas.

The former First Lady earlier claimed victory in Rhode Island and Ohio while Mr Obama, who came into the four-state contest with 11 straight victories under his belt, won the small, liberal state of Vermont.

"You know what they say: As Ohio goes, so goes the nation.

"Well, this nation's coming back and so is this campaign," Mrs Clinton said to a cheering crowd in the state capital Columbus, as she celebrated her victory. Hillary Clinton defeats Barack Obama in Ohio and Texas >>> By Toby Harnden in Columbus and Alex Spillius in San Antonio
