Al Jazeera World - Islamophobia in the USA

"Islamophobia in USA" is an investigation by Aljazeera Arabic correspondent Abdullah Elshamy into who and what's behind the rise of anti-Islamic feeling in the US – what they think, how they operate and where their funding comes from.

The 11th September attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001 was a watershed moment in America's relationship with the Arab world. Amid the grief and US military response that followed, American fear of the threat of international terrorism grew.

George W Bush's so-called 'crusade' against what he labelled the 'axis of evil' fueled suspicion of the Middle East as a whole and as US military action increased and led to the invasion of Iraq in 2003, this fear turned into one of Arabs generally and Muslims in particular.

With the rise of ISIL and the way the mainstream American media reports on it, fear of Islam further increased, tending to demonise Muslims and portray them and their faith as dangerous and violent. Donald Trump is a textbook fascist and we will see whether or not that translates into fascist policies.

Hank Johnson, Democratic Congressman of Georgia Elshamy's investigation uncovers a network of Islamophobic writers, campaigners, funders and politicians who combined to bring about the conditions in which Donald Trump would be elected President in November 2016.

Inside Story - What's Triggering Hate Crimes in the US?

What's triggering hate crimes in the US? The fatal stabbing of two men on a train – and serious injuries to another - has turned the spotlight on bigotry and intolerance in the United States. Canada's Islamophobia Problem

Canadian Parliament Passes Anti-Islamophobia Motion

THE INDEPENDENT: The motion calls on the government to 'quell the increasing public climate of hate and fear'

The Canadian parliament has passed a landmark anti-Islamophobia and religious discrimination motion that calls on politicians to condemn anti-Islamic behaviour and rhetoric.

The vote follows months of fierce debate in Canada, including protests from both the motion’s supporters and detractors.

Opponents argued the private members’ motion, which calls on the government to “condemn Islamophobia and all forms of systemic racism and religious discrimination”, will limit free speech in the country and single out Islam for special treatment. Burqas "Make A Mockery Out Of Islam": Raheel Raza (2015)

Ezra Levant of TheRebel.media talks with liberal Muslim activist and author Raheel Raza about the court's decision to allow women to wear face coverings while taking the Canadian citizenship oath.

Raza says the burqa and niqab should be made unconstitutional. She also points out that "Islamophobia" is really "an industry" invented by Islamists to attack the West. "The whole premise is based on a lie."

Levant and Raza tease out the contradictions in the pro-burqa arguments. She adds that when she debates this issue, it is always with Muslim men. "They can't even find a woman who will come and talk about this issue."

Raheel Raza Reflects on 2016, Islamophobia, Islamism, Political Correctness & Trump

Anti-Islamophobia Motion Passes Unanimously in Ontario

BREITBART.COM: As debate rages at the national level over a proposed anti-Islamophobia motion, the Ontario legislature has passed its own motion condemning “all forms of Islamophobia” and rebuking “the notable growing tide of anti-Muslim rhetoric and sentiments” in the Canadian province.

Riding the wave of pro-Muslim sentiment following the attack on a Quebec mosque in late January, the Ontario legislature passed the motion unanimously, by a vote of 81-0.

While undoubtedly motivated by good will, the unfortunately worded motion raises a series of concerns that are currently roiling discussions taking place in the Canadian Parliament over a similar measure. Read on and comment » | Thomas D. Williams Ph.D | Monday, February 27, 2017
