Trump is undermining his partnership with the EU and emboldening Putin by pushing “an alternate reality” that ignores Europe’s actual security risks, says former EU ambassador to the US João Vale de Almeida.
Trump is a traitorous AH! Moreover, Trump is Putin’s stooge, and for as long as Americans tolerate this dangerous man in the White House, America should not be considered our true friend or ally. We Europeans had better get used to the idea that we are alone. We can no longer count on the Americans. Any hitherto perceived “special relationship” under Trump is dead. Furthermore, we need to stop bellyaching about why this is all happening. To me, there is no real mystery. Much has gone on between Trump and Russia in the past that has yet to come out. The result: Trump is Putin’s marionette; Putin, Trump’s puppeteer! But there is another important dimension, too. It is this: Trump is in a great hurry because he sees great opportunities ahead that his buddy Putin will make possible for him. Trump and his family will be able to profit greatly from an American rapprochement with Russia by bringing Putin in from the cold. Travelers visiting the United States from countries like Britain, France, Germany and South Korea could soon have to undergo a review of up to five years of their social media history, according to a proposal filed on Tuesday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

A rights campaigner in Hungary has been placed under investigation and is facing potential criminal charges after organising a peaceful Pride march, in a case that campaigners have described as “unprecedented and dangerous” for the EU.
In early October, thousands flocked to the southern city of Pécs to take part in Pride. It was the fifth year that the march was held – the only other annual Pride gathering in the country besides that of Budapest – and was becoming a showcase of the city’s commitment to freedom, diversity and the coexistence of minorities.
This year, however, politics loomed large. Speaking in a wide-ranging interview, the US President said mass migration has caused Europe to “decay” as he blamed the continent’s leaders for failing to end the war in Ukraine.
“I think they are weak,” Mr Trump told POLITICO. “But I also think that they want to be so politically correct.”
The US President accused European leaders of “talking too much” and failing to deliver on the war in Ukraine, as he demanded Volodymyr Zelenskyy “get his act together.”

Dec 9, 2025 | President Trump has said Ukraine’s leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy has to start accepting that his country is losing its war with Russia.
Speaking in an interview, he said Russia was much bigger and stronger than Ukraine and “at some point size will win”. He also criticised European leaders, calling them weak and saying they were not handling the war well.
Trump called on Ukraine to hold presidential elections, suggesting that without them its government was not democratic.
Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy suggested he was considering changing the constitution to allow an election to take place while the country is under martial law.
In Moscow, the Russian President Vladimir Putin has been awarding medals to soldiers who’ve been fighting in Ukraine.

Kirkpatrick in The New Yorker, which finds that the first family has been leveraging its place atop U.S. politics to rake in billions. According to Kirkpatrick, Donald Trump and his immediate family have made $3.4 billion from his time in the White House, including more than $2.3 billion from various cryptocurrency ventures alone.
"What really surprised me about all this is just how fast they're making this money. They seem to turn down no opportunity," says Kirkpatrick. "It really sharpens the question of what a buyer, so to speak, might be getting for that."
