Saudi Arrested for Trying to Blow Up George Bush's Home Went to US as Student to 'Wage Jihad'

MAIL ONLINE: A Saudi national has been arrested in Texas after plotting to blow up the home of George W Bush.

Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari is said to have come to America and bought chemicals and materials specifically to wage jihad on American soil and kill the former President.

In a case chillingly similar to Times Square bomb plotter Faisal Shahzad, who is now serving a life sentence, Aldawsari allegedly planned to place a bomb in heart of New York City during rush hour.

he chemical engineering student also allegedly planned to destroy dams, nuclear power plants and target three former U.S. soldiers who had worked at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

Investigators monitoring the 20-year-old found he wrote a string of deranged blog postings demanding he be ‘granted martyrdom’.

It also emerged he had been planning such an attack since he was a child and had got good grades in school and won a scholarship so he could travel abroad to kill.

Aldawsari has been charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and, if convicted, he could face the death penalty. Saudi man arrested for trying to blow up George W. Al-Qaida s'invite dans les manifestations en Egypte

Evil Bid to Massacre Christmas Shoppers

DAILY EXPRESS: ANTI-terror police foiled suspected Al Qaeda plots to slaughter Christmas shoppers in a bomb blitz and Mumbai-style massacres yesterday.

Officers arrested 12 young Muslim men in dawn raids in Cardiff, London, Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent.

The suspects, all believed to be of Bangladeshi origin, were being questioned about alleged conspiracies to launch a spate of devastating attacks across the UK.

Police and MI5 officers, aided by the Government’s listening post GCHQ, are believed to have uncovered plans to set off a series of explosions in crowded high streets and shopping centres. Bars, night- clubs and restaurants are also thought to be potential targets.

It is also believed there is some intelligence of a suspected plot to launch commando raids like the Mumbai massacre in India two years ago which claimed more than 170 lives.

It was not clear exactly when the men arrested yesterday allegedly planned to carry out the attacks. >>> John Twomey | Tuesday, December 21, 2010

How I Was Reviled for Warning that Britain Is a Hotbed of Islamic Terrorism

MAIL ONLINE: Some four-and-a-half years ago, a book of mine was published that caused something of a sensation.

It was called Londonistan, and it was about the way in which - astoundingly - Britain had become the most important centre, outside the Islamic world itself, for the production and export of Islamic terrorism.

Worse yet, I wrote, even after the 9/11 attacks and the 7/7 London Tube and bus bombings, the British political, legal and security establishments were still refusing to get to grips with the threat posed to Britain by militant Muslims who wanted to conquer it for Islam.

For my pains, I was called ‘mad’ by the Guardian, ‘bonkers’, ‘alarmist’, ‘hysterical’ and, of course, ‘Islamophobic’.

Indeed, I had a hard time getting the book published at all. It was turned down by every mainstream London publisher because they regarded my views as dangerous extremism. One even remarked: ‘I’d rather take the poison ricin than publish this.’ Nice! Read on and comment >>> Melanie Phillips | Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Man Arrested in Bomb Plot Sting

THE KANSAS CITY STAR: BALTIMORE | A construction worker who had recently converted to Islam and told an FBI informant that he thought about nothing but jihad was arrested Wednesday when he tried to detonate what he thought was a bomb at a military recruitment center, authorities said.

Antonio Martinez, 21, a naturalized U.S. citizen also known as Muhammad Hussain, faces charges of attempted murder of federal officers and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

The bomb he is accused of trying to detonate was fake and had been provided by an undercover FBI agent. It was loaded into a vehicle that Martinez parked in front of the recruiting center, authorities said, and an FBI informant picked him up and drove him to a nearby vantage point where he tried to set it off. >>> Ben Nuckols, The Associated Press | Wednesday, December 08, 2010
Wikileaks Cable: American TV Shows 'Agents of Influence' in Saudi Arabia

ABC NEWS: American television shows broadcast across the Middle East are proving to be effective "agents of influence" in the ongoing battle over hearts and minds of ordinary Muslims pondering jihad against the United States, a confidential government cable published by Wikileaks reveals.

ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and "World News with Diane Sawyer," as well as CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman" and NBC's sitcom "Friends," all carry more sway with viewers than a U.S. taxpayer-funded Middle East broadcast network, an unnamed Saudi source told U.S. embassy officials last year.

"It's still all about the War of Ideas here, and the American programming on [privately-owned] MBC and Rotana is winning over ordinary Saudis in a way that 'Al Hurra' and other U.S. propaganda never could," the source said.

"Saudis are now very interested in the outside world, and everybody wants to study in the U.S. if they can. They are fascinated by U.S. culture in a way they never were before." >>> Devin Dwyer | Wednesday, December 08, 2010

TerrorTube: Internet Video Has Become a Nest of Jihadi Propaganda

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Radical Islamist fanatics are turning YouTube into their personal broadcast platform with disturbingly accelerating frequency. Their videos illustrate how jihadists are exploiting the Internet to inspire violence, and they demand increased vigilance by the Google-owned company.

The Middle East Media Research Institute this week flagged postings by, among others, America's Jihad Jane and Anwar Al-Awlaki, the Yemen-based cleric whose involvement in terror plots prompted the U.S. to target him for assassination.

After his arrest, would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad is reported to have cited Al-Awlaki as a guiding light. And a Pakistani Taliban group posted a video on YouTube to claim authorship of the plot:

"We, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, very bravely claim the responsibility for this attack in America. And we congratulate Muslims on this."

Days later, the group posted a video with a chilling message:

"The time is very near when our fedayeen will attack the American states in their major cities ... our fedayeen have penetrated the terrorist America, we will give extremely painful blows to the fanatic America. I request you all to be steadfast and firm in your jihad." >>> Saturday, May 08, 2010
U.S.-born Cleric Calls on Muslims to Kill U.S. Civilians

DETROIT FREE PRESS: CAIRO, Egypt -- A U.S.-born cleric who has encouraged Muslims to kill American soldiers called for the killing of U.S. civilians in his first video released by a Yemeni offshoot of al-Qaida.

Dressed in a white Yemeni robe and turban and with a dagger tucked into his waistband, Anwar Al-Awlaki used the 45-minute video posted Sunday to justify civilian deaths -- and encourage them -- by accusing the U.S. of intentionally killing a million Muslim civilians in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

American civilians are to blame, he said, because "the American people, in general, are taking part in this and they elected this administration and they are financing the war." >>> Maamoun Youssef, Associated Press | Monday, May 24, 2010

Three Arrested in Connection with Times Square Bombing

THE TELEGRAPH: Three people have been arrested in connection with the failed Times Square car bomb after a series of morning raids in Massachusetts and New York.

The three people have connections to Faisal Shahzad and may have provided him with funds, US Attorney General Eric Holder said.

"These are people who are connected to Mr Shahzad, we're still trying to determine exactly what the nature of that connection was.

"There's at least a basis to believe that one of the things that they did was provide him with funds and so we're trying to trace back" to determine the purpose of those transactions, Mr Holder said, calling the arrests a significant step.

Imam’s Path From Condemning Terror to Preaching Jihad

THE NEW YORK TIMES: WASHINGTON — In the weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, the eloquent 30-year-old imam of a mosque outside Washington became a go-to Muslim cleric for reporters scrambling to explain Islam. He condemned the mass murder, invited television crews to follow him around and patiently explained the rituals of his religion.

“We came here to build, not to destroy,” the cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki, said in a sermon. “We are the bridge between Americans and one billion Muslims worldwide.”

At first glance, it seemed plausible that this lanky, ambitious man, with the scholarly wire-rims and equal command of English and Arabic, could indeed be such a bridge. CD sets of his engaging lectures on the Prophet Muhammad were in thousands of Muslim homes. American-born, he had a sense of humor, loved deep-sea fishing, had dabbled in get-rich-quick investment schemes and dropped references to “Joe Sixpack” into his sermons. A few weeks before the attacks he had preached in the United States Capitol.

Nine years later, from his hide-out in Yemen, Mr. Awlaki has declared war on the United States.

“America as a whole has turned into a nation of evil,” he said in a statement posted on extremist Web sites in March. Though he had spent 21 of his 39 years in the United States, he added, “I eventually came to the conclusion that jihad against America is binding upon myself, just as it is binding on every other able Muslim.” >>> Scott Shane and Souad Mekhennet | Saturday, May 08, 2010

Faisal Shahzad: Accused Times Square Bomber 'Gave Up American Dream for Jihad'

THE TELEGRAPH: Faisal Shahzad seemed like a perfect embodiment of the American Dream but, US prosecutors allege, gave it up for jihad.

The quiet, privately-educated son of an retired air force officer had enjoyed almost textbook success since moving to America in 1998 on a student visa.

He earned a degree in computer applications and, after working at Elizabeth Arden, the cosmetics maker, he found a well-paid job for a financial services company.

Having secured his future in the US by finding an American wife, Huma Mian, the couple and their two young children appeared destined for a life of stable, suburban life in Connecticut. >>> Tom Leonard in New York and Ashfaq Yusufzai in Muhib Banda | Wednesday, May 05, 2010

R.O.P. Strikes Again*! Times Square Car Bomb: Security Slip Let Faisal Shahzad Board Plane

THE TELEGRAPH: The suspect in the failed car bomb attempt on Times Square was allowed to board a plane and almost make it out of the country despite being on a no fly list, it has emerged.

Faisal Shahzad had boarded a jetliner bound for the United Arab Emirates before federal authorities arrested him. Although under surveillance since midafternoon, he had managed to elude investigators and head to the airport.

The night's events, gradually coming to light, underscored the flaws in the nation's aviation security system, which despite its technologies, lists and information sharing, often comes down to someone making a right call.

As federal agents closed in, Mr Shahzad was aboard Emirates Flight 202. He reserved a ticket on the way to John F. Kennedy International Airport, paid cash on arrival and walked through security without being stopped.

By the time Customs and Border Protection officials, using a no-fly list updated on Tuesday, spotted Mr Shahzad's name on the passenger list and recognised him as the bombing suspect they were looking for, he was in his seat and the plane was preparing to leave the gate.

At the last minute, the pilot was notified, the jetliner's door was opened and Shahzad was taken into custody.

After authorities pulled Mr Shahzad off the plane.

He later claimed to have been trained at a terror camp in Pakistan's lawless tribal region of Waziristan, according to court documents. That raised increased concern that the bombing was an international terror plot.

New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said that Mr Shahzad was cooperating with investigators and had waived his Miranda rights, which grant him the right to a lawyer and full US constitutional legal rights. >>> | Wednesday, May 05, 2010
