Piers Morgan Says Royal Family Shocked at King Charles' Cancer - "2 Days Ago Everything Seemed Fine"
Feb 5, 2024 | Piers Morgan says he believes the news of King Charles' cancer diagnosis has come as shock to everyone, including the Royal Family.
The type of cancer has not been disclosed, but it was discovered during the King's recent treatment for an enlarged prostate.
The King informed close family members, including his sons Prince William and Prince Harry, as well as his three siblings. Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has already spoken to his father over the phone and is said to be flying into the UK in the coming days to see him. The public announcement was made at 6pm, leaving the world in shock and uncertainty.
Although the exact details of the diagnosis have not been revealed, it is clear that this is a serious situation. The King began regular treatments as an outpatient, following his recent procedure for an enlarged prostate. He will continue to undertake basic state duties from the Palace, such as his weekly meeting with the Prime Minister. However, all public engagements have been postponed for the duration of his treatment. It remains uncertain whether he will be able to fulfil major international trips planned for the coming months.
Piers Morgan is joined by TalkTV's Royal Editor Sarah Hewson, Royal biographer Tom Bower, broadcaster Andrew Neil, and Roya Nikkah, Royal Editor of The Sunday Times.

Wales Weather: No Such Thing as a Healthy Tan - Dermatologist
BBC: There is no such thing as a healthy tan, according to a dermatologist who treats hundreds of cases of skin cancer every year.
One in four men and one in five women in the UK will be diagnosed with skin cancer during their lifetime.
In Wales, it makes up 47% of all cancers - the highest rate of all UK nations.
The damage is caused by overexposure to ultraviolet radiation, or UV, produced by the sun.
Dr Rachel Abbott, consultant dermatologist at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, said: "There is such thing as a healthy fake tan. But unfortunately, to induce tanning in the skin, you have to induce damage to the DNA in your skin cells.
"So there's no way of getting a healthy tan from the sun or from a sunbed."
Too much UV exposure can lead to tanning, sunburn, premature ageing and eye damage. It is also the main cause of skin cancer. (+ videos) » | Sabrina Lee, BBC Wales meteorologist | Thursday, July 20, 2023
Don’t forget to add sunbathing to the list! The list of the causes of cancer grows ever longer: smoking; drinking alcohol; eating carcinogenic foods, which appear to be most of them; air pollution; too little sleep; loneliness; and UV exposure (sunbathing). I wonder what will come next on the list?
I don’t want to sound flippant, because cancer is a terrible disease in all its forms; but these days, one must ask oneself if there is indeed anything pleasurable or any activity enjoyed by people that scientists believe does NOT cause cancer? – © Mark Alexander

Aspartame Is a Possible Cause of Cancer in Humans, a W.H.O. Agency Says
THE NEW YORK TIMES: The F.D.A. and the powerful beverage industry protested the new findings, and a second W.H.O. group stood by its standard that the sweetener is generally safe.
A World Health Organization agency declared on Thursday that aspartame, an artificial sweetener widely used in diet drinks and low-sugar foods, could possibly cause cancer.
A second W.H.O. committee, though, held steady on its assessment of a safe level of aspartame consumption. By some calculations using the panel’s standard, a person weighing 150 pounds could avoid a risk of cancer but still drink about a dozen cans of diet soda a day.
The declaration by a W.H.O. agency of a cancer risk associated with aspartame reflects the first time the prominent international body has weighed in publicly on the effects of the nearly ubiquitous artificial sweetener. Aspartame has been a contentious ingredient for decades. » | Christina Jewett | Thursday, July 13, 2023
I am not surprised. But doesn’t everything cause cancer these days? Here’s a list of foods that are said to cause cancer: canned tomatoes, refined sugar, alcohol, French fries and potato chips (crisps), processed meat, mass-produced bread, artificial colours, microwave popcorn, hydrogenated oils, charred meats, farmed salmon, sodas (pop), red meat, pasta, milk, and GMOs. [Source: Miles Spar MD. ]
And that’s just in the food section. Add to that, smoking—Could we ever forget?—and just about every other pleasure besides, and by now you must be wondering what you could possibly have for lunch!
Back in the day, people must have been so much happier. They could eat whatever the hell they liked, oblivious of all the dangers, they could have a drink with impunity, and they could puff away to their hearts’ content, unaware of the dangers of everything. Bliss, it must have been, in that dawn to be alive! (Please excuse the play on William Wordsworth’s words.)
These days, it seems that we know the dangers in everything, but the pleasures in nothing. – Mark.

Lung Cancer Diagnoses of UK Women to Outnumber Men’s for First Time
THE GUARDIAN: Exclusive: Women urged to study symptoms and be as vigilant as they are for breast cancer
The number of women diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK is expected to overtake men this year for the first time, according to projections that have prompted calls for women to be as vigilant about the disease as they are about breast cancer.
Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the UK, accounting for one in five of the total. It has one of the worst cancer survival rates, which is largely attributed to diagnoses at a late stage, when treatment is less likely to be effective.
Analysis by Cancer Research UK for the Guardian suggests women will overtake men for lung cancer diagnoses in 2022-24. The projections suggest that this year, female cases will eclipse male cases for the first time, with 27,332 and 27,172 cases respectively. » | Andrew Gregory, Health editor | Wednesday, July 5, 2023

Stanley Tucci's New Taste for Life After Surviving Cancer: "I'm Lucky to Be Alive" | PEOPLE
My late American partner also had tongue cancer. He had similar treatment to Stanley Tucci. Unfortunately, he wasn’t as lucky as Stanley Tucci has been. He died in 2016 in hospital in Philadelphia. Naturally, I am very happy for Stanley Tucci and I wish him the best of health going forward. – Mark Alexander
