Trump’s ‘Free Speech Crackdown’ Is Turning America into Putin’s Russia | Tina Brown

Sep 21, 2025 | “It is such an outright naked free speech crackdown.”

Trump Humiliates Himself and America During Speech at Windsor Castle

Sep 19, 2025 | Donald Trump managed to humiliate both himself and the entire United States by lying his way through an address at Windsor Castle during his visit to the UK this week. Trump boasted about the fact that no other US president had ever been invited to the castle, but that he's been twice. This is completely false, and every US president this century has been invited - and visited - the castle during their administrations. The man cannot stop himself from lying to boost his own ego, as Farron Cousins explains.

Flattering the Beast

THE CRITIC: For now, the kingdom has bought off the monster

In the olden days, a kingdom threatened by a strangely-tinted, tiny-handed, fire-breathing beast might opt to attempt to buy it off with a princess or two. Obviously times have moved on since then. Now we offer them a night at Windsor Castle.

Nothing so emphasises our declining place in the world as our national abasement before Donald Trump. A hundred years ago, such a man turning up in Britain would have been horsewhipped. These days, nothing is too much trouble. So he gets a second state visit, and a banquet and the Red Arrows and the Red Devils and everything else we can give him.

Everyone knows why Keir Starmer is doing this, and however unpleasant it is to watch, most people seem to accept that he has to do it. He approaches Trump as one might a very rich but increasingly senile relative who is in the habit of changing their will on a daily basis. Yes, Mr President. So wise, Mr President. How interesting, Mr President. How unfair the Nobel Committee are to you, Mr President. » | Robert Hutton | Thursday, September 18, 2025

IHIP News: Trump the FAKE Strongman FALLS APART in Front of the Entire World

Sep 18, 2025 | Trump travelled to the UK to ramble and fall apart on an international stage.

Strong language alert!

That my country felt is right to spend so many millions of pounds on an unprecedented second state visit to this fascist dictator is a national disgrace. More especially at a time when so many children are going hungry in the country and so many people, even working people, have to go to foodbanks to try and put sone sustenance on the table for their loved ones. Crowns, tiaras and jewels empty stomachs do not fill! This is truly disgusting. Shame on our Establishment! — G Mark Alexander

Behind Castle Walls, the Rich and Powerful Celebrate Trump

THE NEW YORK TIMES: The seating chart at the state dinner for President Trump was a cross-section of the rich and the powerful hoping to get on his good side.

As beggars’ banquets go, this one was pretty rich.

There they sat, side-by-side, some of the wealthiest, most influential and best connected people in the world, all together at one long table inside a nearly-thousand-year-old castle. The guest of honor was in the middle of the table, wearing white tie, looking happier than ever. He was being treated like a king by an actual king.

The state dinner that King Charles III hosted for President Trump on Wednesday night at Windsor Castle seemed like a new apex for Mr. Trump: a glittering showcase of the powerful outdoing themselves to get (or remain) on the good side of a president whose second term has been marked by demonstrations of brute power. Those demonstrations have increasingly taken the form of retribution against perceived enemies at home and tattered alliances abroad.

“The bond between our two nations is indeed a remarkable one,” said Charles. “In renewing our bond tonight, we do so with unshakable trust in our friendship and in our shared commitment to independence and liberty.”

The president seemed supremely pleased by the whole thing; he didn’t look the least bit bothered when the king used his speech to gently prod about environmental issues and the need to support Ukraine.

Mr. Trump got up and cooed: “It’s a singular privilege to be the first American president welcomed here.” (Other U.S. presidents have been welcomed at Windsor — including Mr. Trump in his first term — albeit not at a state dinner. Usually these dinners happen at Buckingham Palace back in London, but that old pile is undergoing renovations.) » | Shawn McCreesh and Maggie Haberman | Shawn McCreesh reported from Windsor Castle and Maggie Haberman from London. | Wednesday, September 17, 2025

“The banquet table was also lined with power brokers from the worlds of technology, finance and media.” Take a peek here.

Windsor Castle’s State Dinner Features Lavish Menu

THE NEW TIRK TIMES: Just over 100 staff members served 160 guests at the white-tie event.

Thousands of Londoners protested President Trump’s two-day state visit in the U.K., but the grandiose spectacles carefully crafted by the British government and royal family gave the president a welcome full of the kind of pageantry he revels in.

Wednesday night’s state dinner was particularly lavish. Hosted in Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Hall, the white-tie event saw Mr. Trump and several members of his administration mingling with British royalty and business leaders alike.

On one side of the hall’s grand banquet table — 155 feet long — place settings were arranged for Secretary of State Marco Rubio, King Charles III, Mr. Trump, and Catherine, the princess of Wales. On the other side: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Queen Camilla, Melania Trump and Prince William.

Just over 100 staff members served a total of 160 guests. Among them were Prime Minister Keir Starmer; Rupert Murdoch of News Corp; Tim Cook, the chief executive of Apple; and the Open AI chief executive, Sam Altman. » | Anushka Patil | Wednesday, 17 September 2025

Sep 17, 2025 | US President Donald Trump has received a lavish ceremonial welcome from King Charles and senior royals in Windsor, on the first full day of his state visit to the UK.

Queen Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales were also there to welcome the US visitors, as a band played the Stars and Stripes in this royal charm offensive, which has seen gifts, parades and a flypast.

Trump's historic second state visit has already been a crowded mix of royal pageantry, trade talks and international politics.

Protest Takes Place against Donald Trump's State Visit to UK

Sep 17, 2025 | Last night, a video mocking Trump and his relationship with the late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein was projected on to the side of Windsor Castle. Four people were later arrested.

The Epstein scandal has overshadowed the run-up to Trump's state visit, with Sir Keir Starmer having to sack Lord Mandelson as the UK's ambassador to the US last week over supportive messages he sent after Epstein pleaded guilty to sex offences.

Why Donald Trump Is Unfit for a UK State Visit – and Why Starmer Invited Him Anyway

Donald Trump "Is Scared He'll Die" | Politics | The New Statesman

Sep 17, 2025 | Trump enters the UK under "a cloud of paranoia", says Will Lloyd. …

Most U.K. Political Leaders Are Cautiously Welcoming Trump. Not This One.

THE NEW YORK TIMES: Ed Davey, of the Liberal Democrats, says that President Trump does not represent British values, and is boycotting a state dinner with the U.S. leader over Gaza.

When President Trump arrives at Windsor Castle on Wednesday morning for his state visit there will be no complaints from the Conservatives, the country’s traditional center-right party. Nigel Farage, the right-wing populist leader of Reform U.K., will surely rejoice at the presence of Mr. Trump, an ally on British soil.

And although polling suggests that the U.S. president is unpopular with a majority of the British public, even Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whose center-left Labour Party is the country’s equivalent of the Democrats, is more likely to roll out the red carpet than even whisper a criticism about the president. His diplomatic strategy since Mr. Trump took office has been to woo him with praise and deference.

Of the leaders of the three parties with the highest number of lawmakers in Parliament, only one is prepared to openly criticize Mr. Trump. Ed Davey, of the centrist Liberal Democrats, will record his dissatisfaction with the president by refusing to attend a state dinner hosted on Wednesday by King Charles III.

“I personally do not think he represents the best of American values,” Mr. Davey said in a recent interview, where he accused Mr. Trump of undermining the close relationship between Britain and the United States. “He certainly doesn’t share the values that I felt have been at the base of that special relationship.”

Mr. Davey has called Mr. Trump a “bully” and a “threat to peace and prosperity.” He says the American president is the instigator of a “destructive trade war” causing economic pain for British citizens. And he accuses Mr. Trump of “betraying Ukraine,” saying: “It’s not only their sovereignty he’s selling out. It’s our security. The security of Europe and the security of our United Kingdom.” » | Michael D. Shear | Reporting from London | Wednesday, September 17, 2025

Donald Trump Lands in UK for Second State Visit as Protesters Gather in Windsor

THE GUARDIAN: US president arrives on Tuesday ahead of a lavish programme, as Sadiq Khan calls for UK leaders not to shy away from ‘being critical’

Donald Trump has landed in the UK ahead of an unprecedented second state visit.

The US president and the first lady, Melania Trump, touched down on Tuesday evening at London Stansted onboard Air Force One ahead of a series of events over the next two days, including being hosted by King Charles, military parades and a possible flypast by the Red Arrows alongside British and American F-35 jets.

It comes amid criticism in the UK of Trump’s policies and rhetoric, with the Stop Trump Coalition gathering for a protest in Windsor on Tuesday and the group planning another demonstration in central London on Wednesday.

Writing in the Guardian, Sadiq Khan accused the US president of doing more than anyone else to “fan the flames of divisive, far-right politics around the world in recent years”.

The mayor of London said the US president’s deployment of the military in US cities and targeting of minorities was “straight out of the autocrat’s playbook”.

Khan said that while he understood the pragmatic reasons for maintaining good links with the US, Britain should not be afraid of criticising a leader who alongside his allies had “perhaps done the most to fan the flames of divisive, far-right politics around the world in recent years”. » | Nadeem Badshah and Matthew Pearce | Wednesday, September 17, 2025

Trump Arrives for UK State vVsit - as Epstein Images Projected onto Windsor Castle | ITV News

Sep 16, 2025 | US President Donald Trump has arrived in the UK for his unprecedented second state visit.

Air Force One touched down at London Stansted Airport on Tuesday evening. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper was among those greeting the US President and First Lady Melania Trump as they arrived.

RAF personnel from The King’s Colour Squadron lined up in a guard of honour as he stepped off the plane.

President Trump and the First Lady travelled by helicopter to Winfield House, the official residence of the US ambassador in Regent’s Park. On arrival, Trump was asked about his feelings towards the UK and said: “I have a lot of things here that warm my heart. I want to tell you. It’s a very special place.”

Talking about his relationship with the King, he said: “He’s been a friend of mine for a long time, and everybody respects him, and they love him.”

The US president will visit Windsor Castle on Wednesday, where he will be treated to a ceremonial welcome and a lavish state banquet.

Speaking to reporters before departure from Washington, the US president called the King "an elegant gentleman". Trump described the King as “my friend” and noted it was “the first time it has ever happened where somebody was honoured twice” with a state visit. He called the state visit "a great honour," adding this time the visit was at Windsor rather than Buckingham Palace.

“My relationship is very good with the UK, and Charles, as you know, who’s now King, is my friend," Trump said. “It’s the first time this has ever happened where somebody was honoured twice. So, it’s a great honour. “And this one’s at Windsor. They’ve never used Windsor Castle for this before. They use Buckingham Palace. And I don’t want to say one’s better than the other, but they say Windsor Castle is the ultimate, right? So it’s going to be nice.”

He stressed that his visit was “primarily” to meet the King and Queen and said: "They’re friends of mine for a long time, long before he was King, and it’s an honour to have this King. "And, you know, I think he represents the country so well. He’s such an elegant gentleman and he represents the country so well."

On Thursday, he will spend the day with Sir Keir Starmer.

Mandelson Scandal Could Disrupt US-UK Relations, Warns Trump Ally | Lee Cohen

Sep 16, 2025 | "This is certainly very disruptive. The timing couldn't be worse. And I think those are the most alarming things on the president's mind."

Keir Starmer's "catastrophic problems" with Angela Rayner and the Peter Mandelson scandal could impede on previous trade talks and create diplomatic speed bumps, says former adviser on Great Britain to the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, Lee Cohen.

Trump Chooses Not to End the Gaza Slaughter. That’s Why I’ll Boycott the State Dinner When He Meets King Charles

THE GUARDIAN: To refuse an invitation like this goes against all my instincts, but I want to send as strong a message as I can

Amother holding a baby boy so thin from starvation you can see his skeleton. The lifeless bodies of children killed while queueing for water. Emaciated hostages, still held captive by Hamas almost two years after those appalling terror attacks.

These images and countless more have horrified us all in recent months. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza must stop. The famine must end. The hostages must be returned home.

There is one man, more than anyone else, who has the power to make it happen. One man who could pick up the phone to Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, and tell him to end the aid blockade that is causing suffering and starvation on such an appalling scale. One man who could use his influence on Qatar and other Gulf states to help secure the urgent release of Hamas’s hostages.

Donald Trump could do those things today if he chose to. He has more power than anyone else finally to force a ceasefire and put Israel and Palestine on the path to a lasting peace with a two-state solution.

But so far, he’s decided not to. Instead, he’s given Netanyahu his full support. Last week, when he was making his bogus boasts about ending six wars, Trump said Ukraine is “the only one left” – showing he doesn’t even see what’s happening in Gaza as a war he wants to stop. » | Ed Davey | Wednesday, August 27, 2025

Sir Ed Davey is a man of principle, a man with a good heart. In my opinion, he’s a very underrated politician. He would make a great prime minister. Many people don’t seem to realize it, but Sir Ed Davey is exactly the man this country needs to lead it. How wonderful it would be if the LibDems were in control! They would lead us back to the European Union, where we belong, and back to the centre ground of politics which is where this country is unified and where it belongs. Further, the LibDems would bring some sanity back to politics in this country — a country in which politics is becoming ever more extreme and dangerous. — © Mark Alexander

King Charles Schedules Trump State Visit for When UK Parliament Is In Recess

THE GUARDIAN: Buckingham Palace to host US president during party conferences removing chance of Commons address

King Charles has invited Donald Trump for an unprecedented second state visit in September, scheduling the trip for three days when parliament is not sitting and removing the possibility of the US president addressing parliament.

Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that Trump would come to the UK from 17-19 September, soon after the House of Commons rises for its traditional break for the annual party conferences.

The king will host Trump and his wife, Melania, at Windsor Castle, though the palace has not yet set out any other details of the trip. » | Kiran Stacey | Political correspondent | Monday, July 14, 2025
