Jimmy Kimmel’s Show to Return to ABC on Tuesday Night

THE NEW YORK TIMES: The network’s removal of Mr. Kimmel’s show last week almost immediately morphed into a flashpoint for free speech in America.

Jimmy Kimmel is coming back.

ABC said on Monday that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” would return to its airwaves on Tuesday, ending an impasse that began last week.

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” the Walt Disney Company, which owns ABC, said in a statement.

“It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive,” the statement said. “We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

How Pre-emptive Capitulation by Corporate Giants Is Handing Media Control Over to Trump

Sep 19, 2025 | Jimmy Kimmel has been taken off air based on comments that could not be described as offensive on any level. 'This Is Only Heading One Way': Simon Marks on Kimmel's Suspension

Sep 18, 2025 | Simon Marks joins James O'Brien to discuss the direction that late-night talk shows in America might be heading.

Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show has been pulled off the air by ABC after the host made comments about the shooting of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk.

A spokesperson for the Disney-owned network revealed the show would be "pre-empted indefinitely" following remarks made on a broadcast earlier this week.

Trump Camp Called Out for ‘Hypocrisy’ on Kimmel Suspension

Sep 18, 2025 | "It's the arrival of the thought police and it's utterly hypocritical."

The suspension of Jimmy Kimmel shows that those who claim to defend free expression are now silencing voices they don’t agree with, says Times Radio’s Ed Vaizey.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! Suspended Indefinitely after Host’s Charlie Kirk Comments

THE GUARDIAN: ABC says late-night show will not air for foreseeable future after Kimmel accused Republicans of ‘doing everything they can to score political points’ from Kirk’s killing

Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be suspended “indefinitely” after the late-night host’s comments about the killing of Charlie Kirk, ABC has announced, hours after the Trump-appointed chair of the US broadcast regulator threatened to take away the broadcaster’s license.

The network, which Disney owns, announced on Wednesday night that it would remove Kimmel’s show from its schedule for the foreseeable future.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be preempted indefinitely,” an ABC spokesperson said in a statement. Pre-empting means ABC will broadcast another show in the slot instead.

Donald Trump later called the move “great news for America” and congratulated ABC for its “courage” in a social media post. “That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC,” he added, in an apparent threat to the shows of NBC late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, and two months after the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s show. » | Sian Cain | Thursday, September 18, 2025
