Troll or Hero? The Sex Blogger Who's Offending Muslims

BBC AMERICA: Sex blogger, agent provocateur, trouble-maker - or freedom of speech activist?

These are all phrases that one of Malaysia's most infamous bloggers, Alvin Tan, uses to describe himself. He has a history of posts that have been highly divisive in the Muslim majority nation, and his latest stunt has involved once again offending Muslim sensibilities with a controversial Facebook post.

In the video, Tan, bare-chested and wearing sunglasses, plays the piano while singing a lyrically garbled version of the Azan - the Muslim call to prayer. Underneath the video, he has written: "Please don't badger me about the wrong lyrics ... First, this is a cover, so creative modification is permitted. Second, I ain't a suicide bomber." » | BBC Trending | Sunday, May 03, 2015

WikiLeaks: Fear of Offending Muslims Allowed Extremists into Britain ahead of 7/7 London Bombings

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: A fear of offending Muslims allowed extremists into Britain before the 2005 London Tube and bus bombings, a former Labour minister with close links to the intelligence services has admitted.

Kim Howells blamed “political correctness” for fostering a situation in which dozens of extremists being sent to fight the West after being indoctrinated in Britain.

The Daily Telegraph has disclosed this week how terrorist recruits from across Africa and the Middle East flocked to London to claim asylum.

According to leaked detainee files from the US detention camp in Guantanamo Bay, obtained by the WikiLeaks website and passed to The Daily Telegraph, at least 35 detainees were sent to fight against the West after being indoctrinated in Britain.

Mr Howells, a former foreign office minister and chairman of the influential Commons intelligence and security committee, blamed “political correctness” which meant that the extremists and their views were not challenged.

He said: “There is a great reluctance to talk about the whole issue. » | Christopher Hope, Whitehall Editor | Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Oh, for Christ's sake, grow a spine! (No blasphemy intended! Literally, for the sake of Christ! Otherwise the West will not belong to Christ.) You lot in Westminster and in other institutions are so, so weak. What the hell are we paying you weaklings for? Spineless creatures! Spineless to the Nth degree! Quite sickening! – © Mark

Phew! You Got Me Worried for a Moment!

ISLAMTODAY.COM: British Muslim leaders, along with leaders of other minoroty faiths, joined Britain's equality watchdog on Monday in urging Britons to enjoy Christmas without worrying about offending non-Christians.

In the wake of politically correct attempts to play down Christams celebrations in Britain, Muslim leaders voiced their assurances that they are not offended when their fellow Britishs [sic] citizens celebrate Christmas.

Attempts to downgrade the festival include Birmingham's 1998 decision to rename it "Winterval" and the South London borough of Lambeth's "winter lights" of 2004.

The Red Cross banned Christmas decorations from its shops and, in 2003, High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire refused to allow a church to advertise a carol service in a library for fear of offending other religions.

Muslim Council of Britain spokesman Shayk Ibrahim Mogra said "To suggest celebrating Christmas and having decorations offends Muslims is absurd. Why can't we have more nativity scenes in Britain?"

Trevor Phillips, the chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, who headed the clarification effort, reflect on media reports of schools scrapping nativity plays and local councils celebrating "Winterval" instead of Christmas, and feared there might an underlying agenda -- to use the Christmas issue to increase inter-religious tensions in Britain."
