WALES ONLINE: PARENTS and pupils will gather together for a special school assembly to celebrate the religious festival of Eid.
Mount Stuart Primary School in Butetown, Cardiff organises the assembly every year.
Eid is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.
Yvonne Scott, acting headteacher of the school, said: “It is always a lovely event. We are a multi-faith school. We celebrated harvest recently and now we are all coming together to celebrate Eid. Many of our pupils had days off to celebrate the religious festival so this is our first opportunity. Many parents come to the school for the special assembly and it is very social event.” [Source: Wales Online] By Moira Sharkey | October 8, 2008

MAGHREB ARABE PRESS: Rabat, Sep. 1st - Morocco will dispatch over 170 preachers to Europe to provide training and give lectures during the holy month of Ramadan (fasting month) to the Moroccan expatriates, according to a press release of the ministry of Habous (Endowments) and Islamic Affairs.
Quoted by the French daily "La Croix", the document said the decision to send 176 preachers, including 100 to France alone, reflects Morocco's will to "meet the needs of the Moroccan community abroad for spiritual guidance","protect them from all kinds of extremism and deviance", and "foster the values of citizenship in them."
President of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), Mohammed Moussaoui told the French daily that the initiative represents a "precious help", particularly to Muslims in France, adding that the tradition of exchange with Europe dates back to almost 20 years.
The Ulema will have to focus on the relational aspect of the life of Muslims in host countries, while highlighting the values of love, tolerance, and the openness of Islam.
According to official figures, Europe counts over 2.5 million Moroccans with the above countries hosting the greatest numbers of expatriates. France (1,113,176), Spain (423,933), Holland (300,332), Italy (298,944), Belgium (293,097), Germany (102,000), Sweden (12,000), Denmark (6,300) and Norway (6,300). BREITBART.COM: New York's iconic Empire State Building is to be lit up green from Friday in honor of the Muslim holiday of Eid, the biggest festival in the Muslim calendar marking the end of Ramadan, officials said.
"This is the first time that the Empire State Building will be illuminated for Eid, and the lighting will become an annual event in the same tradition of the yearly lightings for Christmas and Hannukah," according to a statement.
Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month, is expected to be celebrated in New York from Friday, depending on when the new moon is sighted, and the city's tallest skyscraper will remain green until Sunday.
Built in the early 1930s, the 443-meter-tall (1,454-feet-tall) Empire State Building was first lit up with colored lighting in 1976, when red, white and blue lights were used to mark the American Bicentennial.
An estimated seven million Muslims live in the United States. [Source: Empire State Building to go green for Muslim holiday]
