Over 170 Preachers to Lecture Moroccan Expats During Ramadan

MAGHREB ARABE PRESS: Rabat, Sep. 1st - Morocco will dispatch over 170 preachers to Europe to provide training and give lectures during the holy month of Ramadan (fasting month) to the Moroccan expatriates, according to a press release of the ministry of Habous (Endowments) and Islamic Affairs.

Quoted by the French daily "La Croix", the document said the decision to send 176 preachers, including 100 to France alone, reflects Morocco's will to "meet the needs of the Moroccan community abroad for spiritual guidance","protect them from all kinds of extremism and deviance", and "foster the values of citizenship in them."

President of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), Mohammed Moussaoui told the French daily that the initiative represents a "precious help", particularly to Muslims in France, adding that the tradition of exchange with Europe dates back to almost 20 years.

The Ulema will have to focus on the relational aspect of the life of Muslims in host countries, while highlighting the values of love, tolerance, and the openness of Islam.

According to official figures, Europe counts over 2.5 million Moroccans with the above countries hosting the greatest numbers of expatriates. France (1,113,176), Spain (423,933), Holland (300,332), Italy (298,944), Belgium (293,097), Germany (102,000), Sweden (12,000), Denmark (6,300) and Norway (6,300).
