Far Right Groups Clash with Anti-fascists in Rochester ahead of By-election

THE DAILY TELEGRAPH: Leaders of BNP splinter group Britain First say they have "almost everything" in common with Ukip and are backing Mark Reckless "one hundred per cent"

Far-right extremists clashed with anti-fascists on the streets of Rochester, bringing a bitter note to the by-election campaign.

Members of Britain First, the BNP splinter group, marched in uniform to the town’s war memorial shouting incendiary anti-Muslim slogans.

They were blocked by a crowd of more than 100 people, including Labour supporters, teenage Tory activists and anti-fascist groups, hurling chants of “scum” back at them as a wall of police officers kept the two groups apart.

Former Tory MP Mark Reckless, who defected to Ukip last month, will be standing in the by-election for Ukip later this month.

Britain First’s deputy leader Jayda Fransen, also a candidate in the by-election, praised Mr Reckless's defection saying her party and Ukip had “almost everything” in common and were “almost identical in policies”. » | Laurence Dodds, video by Alice Wagstaffe | Saturday, November 01, 2014

Neo-Nazis and Protestors Fill a Tense Dresden

THE LOCAL (DE): Thousands of anti-fascists and neo-Nazis as well as police officers trying to keep them apart filled the city centre Dresden on Saturday after organisers of three neo-Nazi marches were given the judicial go-ahead.

Up to 6,000 neo-Nazis are expected to take part in the marches through the city, while up to 20,000 protestors are also expected, after last weekend 17,000 Dresden residents formed a human chain to show their distain for the far Right.

Fighting had already broken out between demonstrators and police by lunchtime, with the police using pepper spray and a water cannon while some demonstrators were said to have thrown fireworks at the officers. >>> DAPD/hc | Saturday, February 19, 2011

BNP on BBC's Question Time: Protesters Breach Police Cordon

THE TELEGRAPH: Anti-fascist protesters demonstrating against BNP leader Nick Griffin's appearance on Question Time have broken through a police cordon outside BBC Television Centre.

About 30 people managed to get past police lines during struggles with officers drafted in to protect the entrance to Television Centre in White City, west London.

Some appeared to have gained entry to the building where they were pursued by police.

About 50 officers were deployed to police the demonstration
Scores of protesters converged on Television Centre ahead of the filming of the programme, which is due to be screened on BBC1.

A police helicopter circled overhead as officers guarded the front entrance.

Speaking after entering the building, Mr Griffin said of the protesters: "I was rather expecting that.

"The Labour Party financed groups from all over the country bringing a mob down here today. It was always going to be a fairly big event."

Police claimed they had more than enough resources to deal with the crowd, which was expected to grow throughout the evening. >>> | Thursday, October 22, 2009

Anti-fascists Clash with Right-wing Protesters in Birmingham

MAIL ONLINE: There were angry clashes in a city centre today as right-wing protesters fought with anti-fascist campaigners in a busy shopping street.

A planned demonstration by The English Defence League in central Birmingham descended into violence as the group charged along New Street, close to the city's main train station.

More than 20 men have been arrested.

'There were about 250 people in total, fighting and throwing bottles at each other,' one onlooker said.

The disorder spilled onto the adjoining Bennetts Hill, a street lined with a number of pubs, popular with shoppers.

Dozens of riot police worked to contain the disturbance and a police helicopter hovered overhead.

A police spokeswoman said there had been 'pockets' of trouble. West Midlands Police said it would deal with anti-social behaviour or criminal activity connected to the protests 'robustly' after a demonstration last month turned violent. >>> | Saturday, September 05, 2009
