Alcaraz Crushes Djokovic to Retain Wimbledon Title

BBC: Carlos Alcaraz powered to victory over an out-of-sorts Novak Djokovic to retain his men's singles title at Wimbledon.

Although the players on show made this a repeat of last year's final, it failed to live up to the five-set thriller of 12 months ago as Djokovic appeared mostly helpless against the dominant Spaniard.

Despite squandering three championship points when trying to serve out a rapid victory, Alcaraz found focus again and held his arms aloft after battling through the third-set tie-break for a 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-4) win.

"Honestly, it is a dream for me winning this trophy," said Alcaraz, who was presented with the trophy by the Princess of Wales. » | Emily Salley, BBC Sport journalist at Wimbledon | Sunday, July 14, 2024

Princess of Wales to Attend Wimbledon Men’s Final

BBC: The Princess of Wales will attend the Wimbledon men's final on Sunday, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

This will be only her second public appearance following her cancer diagnosis and abdominal surgery earlier this year.

Last month, Catherine attended Trooping the Colour, and was seen smiling and waving from the Buckingham Palace balcony.

On Sunday the princess will present the winner of this year's men's singles tournament with the trophy.

She has been a patron of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club for the past eight years.

Carlos Alcaraz Beats Novak Djokovic to Win Wimbledon Title in Final for the Ages

THE GUARDIAN: Spaniard’s second major title in 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win / Djokovic endures first Centre Court defeat in over 10 years

Over the past few years of men’s tennis, as his great rivals have retreated from view, Novak Djokovic has spent his time destroying the hopes and dreams of nearly all younger challengers at the major tournaments. Not only has continued to hold off the next generation, but he has relished his supremacy over them.

It has been clear for a long time, though, that Carlos Alcaraz is just different. Both in terms of his on-court talents and the supreme mental strength that underpins his success. A month after his body crumbled under the sheer tension of facing Djokovic at a major, Alcaraz recovered from a set deficit to perform at a remarkable level for five sets as he toppled Djokovic 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to win his first Wimbledon title. » | Tumaini Carayol at Wimbledon | Sunday, July 16, 2023

Novak Djokovic Crowned Wimbledon Champion after Beating Nick Kyrgios

THE GUARDIAN: Djokovic prevails 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (3) to take 21st grand slam title / Kyrgios again involved in fiery exchanges with umpire

As Novak Djokovic returned to the lawns of Wimbledon to begin a new campaign two weeks ago, he was followed around the grounds with an extra touch of pressure. He was deported before the first grand slam tournament of the year, then he was thoroughly outplayed in the second. It is still not certain where he will be allowed to play next. On the court, he was still toiling to regain the mental edge that has evaded him this year.

It has evidently returned. In one of the most keenly awaited grand slam finals for neutral fans, Djokovic absorbed a faultless start from Nick Kyrgios before raising his own level and gradually smothering his opponent, recovering from a set down to defeat Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3) and win the 2022 Wimbledon title. » | Tumaini Carayol at Wimbledon | Sunday, July 10, 2022

Juli 2009
