REUTERS.COM: (Reuters) - In a telephone call with evangelical voters Sunday night, U.S. Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan told potential voters that President Barack Obama's path for the United States compromises Judeo-Christian values.
The comment came during the final sprint for the U.S. election on Tuesday.
Speaking to the Faith and Freedom Coalition, a leading group of Christian conservatives, Ryan attacked Obama's vision in stark terms.
In the campaign's last week, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Ryan, his running mate, have argued that if elected, they would end partisan divisiveness and work with Democrats to find solutions in Washington.
"It's a dangerous path," Ryan said of Obama's plan for the United States. "It's a path that grows government, restricts freedom and liberty, and compromises those values, those Judeo-Christian, Western civilization values that made us such a great and exceptional nation in the first place." » | Samuel P. SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE: Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan portrayed Barack Obama as a shallow president who has failed to live up to his promises, in a convention speech also infused with an optimism reminiscent of Obama’s 2008 “yes we can” campaign theme.
Arguing for a “clean break” from Obama, Ryan pledged that he and Mitt Romney, who will accept the party’s presidential nomination tonight, would make the difficult decisions necessary to improve the economy and create jobs. He vowed to use Medicare -- an issue where Democrats traditionally have an advantage --as a campaign cudgel against Obama, saying, “We want this debate.”
“They’ve run out of ideas. Their moment came and went. Fear and division is all they’ve got left,” Ryan said in a 37- minute nationally televised speech from Tampa, Florida, as he formally accepted No. 2 spot on the ticket. » | Julie Hirschfeld Davis | Bloomberg News | Thursday, August 30, 2012

BBC: US Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has named fiscal conservative Paul Ryan as his running mate in November's election.
Mr Ryan, 42, is a congressman for his home state of Wisconsin.
Ohio Senator Rob Portman and former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty had also been tipped to run with Mr Romney as vice-presidential candidate.
The BBC's North America Editor Mark Mardell says the decision is a bold and ideological choice.
Recent opinion polls suggest a close race between Mr Romney and President Barack Obama in November's poll, with Mr Obama tending to have a slight lead in most surveys.
Analysts say Mr Romney will be hoping to regain momentum in the campaign after a series of pro-Obama campaign advertisements attacking his record.
Mr Ryan is best-known for a controversial alternative budget which he produced to counter President Obama's plans in 2011 and 2012, known as the Path to Prosperity. » | Saturday, August 11, 2012
