French PM Blasts NY Times for ‘False’ Picture of Life for Muslims in France

FRANCE 24: French Prime Minister Manuel Valls issued a stern rebuke to the New York Times on Monday after the newspaper published an article he claimed painted a “false” and “intolerable” picture of what life as a Muslim woman is like in France.

The US newspaper published the article on Friday after appealing for Muslim women living in Europe to send in their views on the recent burkini bans in a number of French coastal towns.

“What emerged was a portrait of life as a Muslim woman, veiled or not, in parts of Europe where terrorism has put people on edge. One French term was used dozens of times: ‘un combat,’ (a struggle) to live day to day,” the article, by journalist Lillie Dremeaux, said. » | Sam Ball | Tuesday, September 6, 2016

France Security: Muslims Feel Under Attack

A small town outside Paris has gained notoriety for being the home of several violent offenders. Just this past week police arrested a 16-year-old girl accused of planning a copycat of the Bataclan theatre attack, which killed nearly 100 people. Al Jazeera's David Chater reports on why Melun has been struggling to deal with radicalisation, despite efforts from local authorities.

Resentment Grows between Christians and Muslims in France

The deadly attack on Charlie Hebdo puts a spotlight on the growing tensions between France's Muslim and immigrant communities and a large portion of French society, which is traditionally Catholic. The NewsHour’s Megan Thompson recently visited Marseille, one of the country’s most diverse cities, to report on the root of the conflict and the rise of anti-Muslim sentiment in France.

Muslims Attack Jews in Paris Synagogue

TOWNHALL.COM: This week, Islamic protestors surrounded a synagogue in Paris. Islamists threw rocks, and several tried to enter the synagogue with bats, chairs, an axe, and other weapons. One hundred and fifty Jews were trapped inside.

Ten thousand Muslims were protesting, in Paris, regarding Israel’s response to Hamas; a terrorist organization targeting the Israeli population with rockets and drones. The Muslims converged on the Don Isaac Abravanel Synagogue, and began chanting “Slaughter the Jews,” “Death to Jews” and “Hitler was right.” 10,000 Muslims vs. 150 Jews inside for a service were the odds of the day.

As if that were not enough intolerance, the Muslims attacked the synagogue.

The incident was partially caught on tape. » | Larry Provost | Saturday, July 19, 2014

French Muslims Join Opposition to Same-sex Marriage

YAHOO! NEWS: PARIS (Reuters) - French Muslims have begun joining a mostly Catholic-led movement against same-sex marriage, widening opposition to the reform that the Socialist-led government is set to write into the law by June.

Fifty Muslim activists issued an open letter on Monday urging fellow Muslims to join a major Paris protest against the law on Sunday. That followed a similar appeal last Saturday by the influential Union of French Islamic Organisations (UOIF).

Leaders of almost all main faiths in France have spoken out against the law, but not called on their followers to march in Sunday's demonstration to avoid giving the opposition campaign an overly religious tone.

President Francois Hollande and his government clashed with the Catholic Church last weekend, telling Catholic schools not to discuss the law with their pupils and urging state education officials to report anti-gay discussions at Catholic schools.

"We will protest on January 13 by joining a pluralist campaign to preserve the traditional framework of marriage," the Muslim activists' letter said. "We invite all French Muslims to turn out in large numbers."

The UOIF statement also urged Muslims to join the "March for All", the Paris protest against the reform the government has dubbed "Marriage for All".

"This bill, if it passes, will disrupt family and social structures and civil law dangerously and irreparably," it said. » | Tom Heneghan, Religion Editor | Reuters | Monday, January 07, 2013
